    Making a dish the way you like it, especially if you’re just serving it to yourself or your family. But for the average home cook who views cooking videos on UA-cam who may not know about the origins of these dishes, has a responsibility to at least mention the traditional methods and ingredients. It helps viewers stay informed and also boosts YOUR credibility.
    When you look at an Italian-American restaurant menu, a large portion of the dishes will most likely be in a red sauce.
    This marinara sauce originates from Naples and comes from the Italian word, Marinaro, meaning sailor.
    “There was a simple ONE of GARLIC, oil,Basil and Tomatoes.Called marinara, supposedly because it was made quickly, as soon as the Mariners’ wives spotted their husbands returning fishing boats in the distance.”
    For home cooks in the United States, this “sailor sauce” dominated Italian-American cuisine

    Canned tomatoes have bpa in them. You should consider fresh or glass canned tomatoes.

      If it is in a can that is BPA free it is OK to use according to me. It is also v very convenient. I do not use so called fresh tomatoes in the winter because they are not in season. Tomatoes are picked and canned at the peak of the season so, in my opinion it is better. You can do as you wish. Thank you. BTW Do you know why Dr.Sebi said to not use canned goods?

    Pretty Color. I have to find me a good marinara replacement recipe. Tomatoes do not agree with me.

      Sorry other about your issue with tomatoes. Some fruits and veggies do not agree with everyone even though it might be good to eat. I am not sure there is a substitute for tomatoes. You need to do other sauces - like a green sauce. Take care.

    Karen, I am a new fan of your videos. Yesterday, I made the garbanzo omelet with whipped aquafaba folded in. Absolutely amaaaazing and delicious. I have been reading through your posts and there seems to be concern about you using canned products. You can also get the peeled tomatoes in glass bottles. I buy those all the time when I want short cuts in recipes.

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  7 років тому

      The canned tomatoes that I buy have a lining on the inside of the can that is a non BPA lining. I am aware of the canned products and their disadvantages or risks. Thanks for your concern and support. Take care.

    Love your cooking! there is a chemical in the aluminum of the can that gets into food in the can. Dr took me off canned food. Just a tidbit.

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  8 років тому +2

      I think you are referring to BPA Bis-Phenol A. It is a chemical in plastics and and they also use it in the lining of cans for food delivery. You should absolutely make sure that if you buy canned foods that it states on the can that it is BPA free. The best way is to buy fresh and avoid canned and packaged foods. Thank for your question and support. Have a healthy and happy New Year.

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  8 років тому +5

      Again, I don't use aluminum. You should not make assumptions. BPA and aluminum are two different things. But I appreciate the conversation. We are all here to learn.

  • @JakiJade

    how long did you leave it to simmer?

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  7 років тому

      Marinara sauces have to be simmered for a very long time 2-3 hours on med/low (covered) so that the sauce will develop the true flavor. You have heard of the Italian grandmother cooking the sauce for hours and hours - well it is the same thing. The longer it cooks the better the flavor. Thanks for your question. Take care.

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  6 років тому +1

      You can use canned tomatoes. Just be sure that it is BPA free and organic and non-GMO Time-saving if you do not have the time to go through the process of making your sauce from scratch with fresh canned tomatoes. I will show behind the scenes on my Patreon how to do this from scratch with fresh tomatoes.

    why do you use salt and sea salt

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  6 років тому

      don't understand this question. For flavor - like all cooks do. Again if you are a salt free person - then do that.

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  6 років тому

      Zucchini is a squash. It is on the list. You don to have to use canned tomatoes. You have choices. I use for time purposes and the ones I use are from cans that are BPA free. I explain this at length in my videos. You need to watch the videos carefully.

    I'm also really interested in the why/why not on Dr.S's food list. I grow heirloom tomatoes, which are supposedly pure strains (non GMO) from the 1600s and thereabout. I was devasted when I looked at the list the other day and discovered I'm not supposed to eat them. Also wondering if I should continue to use canned coconut milk on my shelf. Can't find fresh coconut laying on the ground in Canada and that's a lot of baggage to send back for. Anyway, the why/why nots are good fodder for your next book :o)
    Canning your own tomatoes (any food really): tinyurl.com/yde3ywcs
    Enjoying your videos!

    • @CreativeRecipeswithKaren
      @CreativeRecipeswithKaren  7 років тому +1

      Tomatoes are fine to eat. The heirloom means that they have not been tampered with. I know Dr. Sebi only allows plum and cherry, but we don't know why. I eat heirloom because they are tasty and not GMO. You can use yr canned coconut milk as long as it is organic and the lining inside the can is Non-BPA. Use your own judgement and commonsense. Take care.
