I agree with Kimberly - harness systems should be standard. Also, ideally they should be wearing a multi-gas detector - I do see a single gas detector on the attendant. Not sure about the entrant. But did they mention this in the video?
Farmers are usually exempt from those pesky OSHA big government nanny state regulations that save thousands of lives every year. While many farmers do take these risks seriously, the vast majority do not. At least not in a real, meaningful sense. Small grain operations often don't follow the regulations that do apply to them. The vast majority of bin related deaths occur on farms. Most accidents are a chain of missteps. Any one of which would break the chain. Unfortunately the $1200 sunroof option on a new $90,000 King Ranch F-350 dually is too often deemed a higher priority than a few hundred dollar investment in safety equipment that would save lives for many years. As a safety equipment supplier and trainer to the grain industry who also uses what we provide, it's frustrating and heartbreaking. The lack of focus on the importance of safety usually becomes crystal clear at the graveside service. And that's too late.
