Why do things go wrong for some Christian homeschoolers? It's not a guarantee!

  • So many homeschool moms and dads chose this path because they want to be the main influence in their child's education! For Christian parents, we want to instill Christian values rather than secular values in our children. We want to be counter-cultural. We want to build up disciples for Christ! So, then why do things still go wrong? Why do some "Christian homeschoolers" still go astray? They were raised in a Christian home. They were regular taken to church. I can't blame the modern education system this time. So what went wrong?
    This video is inspired by a workshop I attended at the 2023 Illinois Christian Home Educators conference (ICHE). If you don't have a nearby Christian homeschool conference, Illinois is pretty solid! Homeschool Moms and Dads, come join us!

    Such a much needed and timely convo. TY so much for sharing on all of this.... I think that culture has a significant influence on "prodigals", butttttt I also seriously believe that many not all, but many "Christian" parents think that regular church attendance and sending children to Christian schools will cover their children's standing with the Lord. I know this, because I've watched it go down pretty much my entire life. And honestly, I get it. I get why a lot of parents would think that that is enough. I also realize that life is very hard, and while it isn't always possible (and I know that I've personally dropped the ball at times).. I still feel that cultivating relationship with our children is key. And consistently speaking candidly with our children concerning spiritual matters is extremely imperative. The Lord has constantly laid it on my heart to make sure that my children know that this life truly is all about a spiritual war, and we all better be vigilant and standing strong in the Lord..and prepared for all that that entails. As I type this.. I am reminded that ultimately, the battle belongs to Him.. and we truly need to submit and trust in Him..always.. 2 Chronicles 20:15 - “Don’t be afraid or worry about this large army, because the battle is not your battle. It is God’s battle!” Praying with all of you on all of this... in Jesus' Name.....

      ❤️❤️❤️what a great verse to remind us!
      You’re right about parents thinking the church is enough. I heard Paul Washer talk about the hours and hours and hours of teaching our kids get from the secular world per week and through TV and other media, and we think that 1-2 hours on Sunday alone is going to combat all those hours. We’re fooling ourselves. The enemy never stops and so we shouldn’t either.

    👏👏👏This was so good & so true. I wish 20 some years ago I had been where I am now. I wish I had known these things.
    As a mom of 11 children & homeschooling 27 years (not consecutively with all 11), I can tell you firsthand that homeschooling does not guarantee your children will not rebel & become lost. Sadly, a few of my adult children are lost. I will never stop praying for them. I am still homeschooling my 2 youngest & we have a wonderful relationship. If you are reading this, please, please remember your relationship with God & your relationship with your children(& of course, your spouse, too) trumps everything else in homeschooling.

    This was extremely timely. My older kids are in the tween phases of life, and because of that, this week, I instituted a rule of 30 minutes of entertainment. We talked about how entertainment, while not bad or evil , is too much of it can cause attention issues, it stunts your growth in many ways. It's a difficult balance, but worth the fight. IMO. That’s what I would do too! Although I’m going to encourage my kids to stay close to home if possible if they decide to go to college so they bc a continue to come to their own church. But when I was in high school, we had to move for my dads job and we still drove and hour and half on Sundays to keep attending our own church. We did find another church for Wednesdays. Sundays were hard. But the point is, it wasn’t impossible. When my hubs and I got married, we lived an hour away from our church and attended on Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday nights. When people thought we were crazy for driving that far, I just said, they didn’t understand how important those people and our church was to us. We have something special than even visitors notice and say is rare. You sacrifice for what’s important to you. How many parents travel for weekend after weekend to dance tournaments or travel sports??

    What woke me up as a young teen was taking the deep dive down the rabbit hole seeing how truly wicked this world is. Our news only is the tip of the ice burg. We must know the depths of Satan himeself to be able to battle against him. When I came out of the matrix there was no going back. Praise the LORD he brought me out.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan

      I’m glad you came back as well!
      While the world is definitely wicked and sometimes kids will go that route and fall deep into that darkness (as you did), others are still “good” and don’t see their real need bc rather than comparing themselves to scripture and Gods standard, they compare themselves to others. Compared to everybody else, they’re “not bad.” Both are dangerous places to be.
      Glad Gods Grace found you!! 😊

    • @taylorferrell8308
      @taylorferrell8308 6 місяців тому +3

      I personally never went down into darkness or participated in it I studied it (Knowledge is power) We must know our enemy so we can battle against him. I studied poplar movies, music, video games and researched all religions and cults and the depths and darkness of Hollywood. When I did this studying is when my Heavenly Father felt more real because I saw the world for what is, wicked. Our enemy prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devore. We must be Berean's and watchman and I personally think this starts with the music, games, movies, items and books that come into our homes and even people. Satan is sneaking in in very subtle ways into our homes and hearts. With everyone on the kick of decluttering lets all rise up and declutter the magic that has snuck into our homes! We are fighting a spiritual war for sure.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  6 місяців тому +4

      @@taylorferrell8308 while that may be how God revealed himself to you, I personally don’t think we need to “study” darkness. We need to have a basic understanding maybe…. But very often Satan’s tools are very subtle. He tempted Jesus in the garden with scripture, just slightly twisted. Same with Eve in the garden. The group in Matthew 7:21-23 who stand before Jesus on judgment day are the religious….they aren’t necessarily mixed up in cults or the culture. They are “doing works” in the Lords name and yet he says on that day, “I never knew you.”
      We need to study and understand the truth of the scripture. That is our best weapon….infact it’s called a “sword.” When we KNOW scripture and KNOW truth, we’ll know when something is being told to us that’s a lie. It won’t sound quite right. And hopefully that will drive us back to study the scripture to find what IS RIGHT!
      Most people I know who are lost, are not into cults or witchcraft. His lies are definitely in the culture and we can’t avoid that being around us or affecting those around us even if we wanted to, but I don’t think we have to willingly expose ourselves to sin in order to understand that it’s bad.
      But we can be alert, be watchful, and keep an eye on things declaring themselves to be “good” and measure them against what scripture actually says is good.

      I totally agree with you about God's word that is the only true weapon we have! Putting on the full armor of God is how we stand against darkness, we do need to be aware though of the Spirit of witchcraft which I believe is in most all of the media today. In scripture it says the whole world will lay in witchcraft. I see many Christians bringing it into their homes without even knowing it. A Lot of contemporary Christian music is laced in it along with many books and movies Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the rings, the Chosen to name just a few. I believe these things are stilling our hearts from the truth our Father has given us in his word. Thank you for taking the time to comment back. I have a strong passion in the area of media.

      I’ll say this, if I HAD to send my kid to school, I’d be as involved as I possibly could, which means getting a job or volunteering in a daily basis.
      I’m so sorry you’re having trouble finding community and homeschoolers!! Have you reached out to HSLDA and see if they have any ideas for you? They may be able to hook you into the Christian homeschool organization on your state (I assume you’re in the US) a dn then maybe THAT organization will have a better idea of where all the homeschoolers are.
      One place I KNOW you could look is through the Classical Conversations website. If they have a community near you, or at least an information meeting you could go to, you might be able to talk to those people to find other homeschoolers.

    The homeschoolers I see rebel are the ones who didn’t make the choice to be homeschooled. The ones that were forced to out of the parents desires. Maybe humans just need to feel like they have a choice to feel contented. The same trend holds for the kids I see walk away from the faith they were raised in. The ones that were forced, vs invited to be a part of the church….

    • @momofmany6619
      @momofmany6619 6 місяців тому +6

      This is an interesting perspective. Since public schools generally expect children to start all day preschool at age 4 or kindergarten at age 5 so as not to be “behind”, I wonder how one would allow a child to make that choice. I also wonder if the same applies to all areas of parenting such as a good bedtime and a healthy diet. If we invite children to eat peas and carrots as opposed to Cheetos and Hershey’s, which choice will they make?
      The majority of the rebels I know are or were educated in the public school system. I wonder what could have been done to prevent rebellion there. Do you have any thoughts to share? I ask in genuinely wanting to know. Not in a rude manner.
      My thoughts are that in this spiritual battle, the human heart is wicked and we desire to sin. I am interested in your thoughts too.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  6 місяців тому +9

      I see what you’re saying, however I’m not of the belief that children should make decisions for themselves. Children are foolish. Proverbs 22:15 says, “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.”
      Perhaps their parents “made” them homeschool and then neglected to truly disciple them. Or…it could just be that the children have a spirit of rebellion in them and no matter if they were homeschooled or gone to another school, it was going to come out. And infact, the public school may have accelerated the process or even increased its level of severity. The majority of “rebels” I know were public schooled, or there existed in their home some of the things I mentioned in this video, (spirit of anger and parental hypocrisy)
