Thanks for the video, I've cleaned my bbq but I've never gotten back to that "gleam" so appreciate the tips. Your video was easy to follow along and thank you for not telling your life story while filming :)
HI Matt, you totally got me into using the grinder now, I love it! Can you pleae tell me what kind of grinding wheels to use to take off the rust and refinish so well ? Amazing Job!
Hi Matt, regarding the 4 1//2" polycarbide wheel and drill bit for cleaning off the rust. Can you please provide links or specifics on which one's you use? I've done a fair amount of searching and have found grinder pads on Amazon - Scotch-Brite Clean and Strip XT Pro Disc - Rust and Paint Stripping Disc - 4.5” diam. x 5/8-11 Quick Change Thread - Extra Coarse Silicon Carbide, will this work well? Also, I haven't found a drill bit of similar type for the W side of the grill plates. Thanks in advance!
*Aloha & Merry Christmas, my friend. I'm wondering why scraping by hand is necessary when you have the polycarbide brush wheel that seems to work so well. I'm thinking about restoring an old grill.
Hi Matt, I still have my DCS/fisherpaykel - BGB36-BQAR-N 36" Gas Grill + CAD-36 Stainless Steel Grilling Cart after 17 years. It's been a great value. I don't have a Sam's Club membership, and I've tried many degreasers to no avail. Is there a commercial industrial strength degreaser I can buy somewhere that works as effectively as what you showed?
Wiping it out with the shop towels, like in this video is only when we are not able to remove the grill and rinse out with water. The shop towels absorb it all and then we burn it out afterwards to get rid of any residual residue. Rinsing out with water is optimal. 👍
matthew adams , once you remove all the dry debris, I use a heavy degreaser, let it soak, then with industrial grade scotch pads, heavy abbrasion. Then Shop towel it out...
@@affordablegasgrillrepair638 I'm ready to tackle this project after watching your video several times. When you say to burn out the firebox, could you explain what you mean? Should the inside also we wiped down with damp towels?
Ive been doing everything you do EXCEPT the grinder....Now I actually have a use for mine!
Collette Levin yaass!
Be careful... Must respect it, can tear you up! Also be sure to rinse them off afterwards to remove any metal particals..

sure thing, Thanks for watching!
How much do you normally charge for something like that?
What is the tube coming out of the side (inside) for? What do we do if corroded?
To light the burners using a match/lighter.

Harbor freight has them, and also Home Depot!
Thanks very much, Matt. Found both on Harbor Freight within a few miles from me. Great!!!
like watching a grill cleaning ballet - thanks!
How do you clean the Burners? Degreaser?
Wire wheel and drill out each hole w\ tiny drill bits! (Tedious!)
I see you grinded the radius side of the grates, how do you grind/clean the W side of the grill grates?
I use the other style polycarbide bit on the drill. 4in by 1/2 wheel with arbor
I washed the burners with hot water and dawn and a lot of elbow greas. Now the grill will not turn on. Does it need to dry for a day? Or what
They're definitely finicky when wet! I would remove the burners and make sure there is no water in them and that the port holes are clear
What happened Hana, did they fire back up once dry?

It's a process that works best when in that order! Alot of trial and error figured that out.
What kind of pad do I use to grind bbq pit?
Scotch pad? Or are you talking about the polycarbide bit on the grinder...
Who makes that black rubber gloves you had at 7:56 when scrubbing with the degreaser. Thank you.
Harbor freight!
Also the smaller nitrile gloves work too as long as they are 9mil or more thick

Really, that degreaser from sam's is the best I've found. You might borrow someone's Sam's club card 😂
Literally nothing else was close to that stuff!

@@eddude2571 won't let me put a picture here. But, it's the Sam's branded oven, grill, and dryer cleaner. Comes in a 3 bottle pack
@@affordablegasgrillrepair638 Matt, thank you very much! 🙂
Awesome work!
Thanks! 🤗
If you don't rinse out the rust and degreaser, doesn't it just spread it to other areas after wiping?

How long does it take you to clean that bbq??
