    Tasteless was not late on the second carrier. He was going 2 stargate carrier off of 1 gas after some goon pressure and starting the +1 air weapons upgrade. That is the earliest he could have got the second carrier because the gas income is not there to get it any faster. He got the gateways to spend the extra minerals. It was a pretty optimized build actually.

    After this game lovesnow watched the replay of how close he had missed the scans. He also didn't notice that he scanned the spinning cyber core which would have let him know about the carriers earlier. Artosis doesn't catch this in the cast but only one SCV was mining second gas for like 50% of the game too, limiting his goliath production. A little bit of everything just went wrong lmao

    • @ailst

      There was also a time where like 4 or 5 goliaths were just standing idle at the rally-point while he was fighting with the rest of his army. Those might very well have tipped the scales in his favor.

    The 2-dragoon early pressure is just so killer. Terran has to pull SCV's to keep that bunker repaired and quite frankly this pressure alone is enough to kill lower ranked players right there. Once the terran panics and starts spamming tanks, the game is basically over. He can't push out for fear of running into a huge dragoon group, leaving the Protoss to tech to carriers for free.

    I don't think I have ever seen Terrans using ghosts to counter carriers. Lockdown is a very powerful spell, is there any reason to why?

    • @AlCool209
      @AlCool209 Рік тому

      Swapping into ghost tech late is incredibly slow and expensive (in gas), while he was just barely keeping enough Goliaths (also cost gas) to hold the carrier deathball at bay. Ghosts also have one of the worst attacks in the game (Concussive), making them effectively useless outside of their spells against large units with any defence upgrades (They literally start doing 1-2 damage per shot at a very low attack speed).
      They can still work in some games/builds, but when you're on two base, low gas, and under constant assault, you simply don't have that option to pivot to. Science Vessels might end up being more valuable with their EMP Shockwave taking out carrier shields, but are also an incredibly gas heavy unit to pivot to if you didn't already have a Starport and plenty of refineries to feed it.

    why terrans never go valks vs carriers? Even if you place valks far behind, interceptors need to fly above the tanks to damage them. a stack of 8 valks would kill interceptors SO fast.

    • @hansonlee5847
      @hansonlee5847 Рік тому

      The problem with Valks is that they cost a lot of mins and gas (250/125) and don't scale well against Gateway units. You'd rather use those resources to get more goaliths and tanks especially when they have upgrades

    Is there any good reason why Tasteless doesn´t attack the factories around 14:30? He kills the command center and can see that there arent too many turrets or goliaths to defend. If he kills off one or two factories the game is basically over at that point. Am I missing something?

    • @d0k0night
      @d0k0night Рік тому +1

      He probably doesn't want to go for the throat for safety sake.

    • @christophjorda7326
      @christophjorda7326 Рік тому

      @@d0k0night what risk would that be? His interceptors are already over the first line of factories when the cc dies. He's got full vision of any possible goliath reinforcements from the natural through his interceptors. He didn't need to push in any further with his carriers, just right click the first two factories and watch them melt in seconds. I'd say the risk of letting the game go on is higher than the risk of losing maybe one carrier to take out two factories, and even that risk is minimal given the number of goliaths and how everything is positioned at that point.

    • @jimmydelcid8779

      He probably didn’t want to risk the carriers overextending too far in case there was more goliaths than he thought. Smart move honestly. Not-overextending is such an underrated skill.

    13:27 Lovesnow realizes he was basically mining gas from his main only. It's especially unfortunate considering fighting carriers is much more gas expensive than fighting a gateway or arbiter style (for obvious reasons).
    Still, nice fights we had between these two, GGs !

  • @bobbaxter57
    @bobbaxter57 Рік тому +1

    Of all the match-ups, TvP carriers are the units that scale the best against enemy units. That's why Artosis dubs them "floating base" lol.

    • @usmh
      @usmh Рік тому

      Really interesting that he puts them above defilers ZvT.

    • @bobbaxter57
      @bobbaxter57 Рік тому

      @@usmh The difference is you constantly need to remake defilers and zerglings which implies strong econ (mainly securing those additional vespene geysers) whereas the carrier death ball is something really unique in SC1. It's not rare to have games where terran econ is weak (like mining from 1 base) and protoss has no econ at all but yet the protoss player will kill terran of off their finite career fleet by abusing their range. When facing the time bomb that is carriers, Terran needs to start generating threats (go out to kill bases) much sooner while also somewhat balancing it with strong econ/mass production and defense (which are not granted to secure hence many games involving carriers end up in base trades that favor either player).

    • @bobbaxter57
      @bobbaxter57 Рік тому

      @@usmh There's also another reason why you can gain infinite value with a finite career fleet, aside from their range/being an air unit/movement speed.
      The interceptors will return inside the carriers to heal when their shield points drop to 10 which means those goliaths shots were basically wasted if the targeted interceptor made it back home.
      If I'm not mistaken the original anti-carrier 2/1 developed by Flash was meant to deal with this specific issue, by reducing the amount of goliaths needed to kill a single interceptor.
