  • This setup will show you how I stopped my networking equipment outdoor enclosure box that holds my wifi router and network POE switch from overheating. I used this enclosure cabinet to terminate and power my POE security cameras and needed something that was going to let me mount all the networking equipment outside that was water proof and secure. The problem I ran into was that the box overheated and I needed a to ventilate the box. I ended up accomplishing this will some USB fans to exhaust the hot air and used the AC infinity thermal trigger to control the fans.

Just what i need, you’ve got every considerations needed. Great job man❤ when wifi is in this box, how is the signal doing? Does it drop a lot? I plan to use this in my farm, max range for 2.4ghz is 100 meters

its all about airflow...............allow plenty of cool air in the bottom, and allow the hot air to convection flow up and out the enclosure. Insulation inside is actually making things worse, helping to hold heat inside the box, remove it. You could put a 'stand off' heat shield on the outside of the box, to catch the suns radiant heat and effectively give the box shade. just a sheet of stiff plastic or aluminium, some spacers and self tapping screws..............easy.

Very informative. Do you have a link for the fans/vent covers? Also how is that poe switch mounted? looks like it's standing vertically on its own.

Cool project. Does that thermal trigger reset to the last setting if power is toggled off/on? Or does it remember the last setting?

Thanks for ideas, what did you do to keep it from freezing? most of that gear is only rated to 32degrees

With the summer temperatures being so high, ambient temperature of my cable modem/router is 92 degrees. It is on a tabletop by itself. The router case temp is 94 degrees. Do I need to use a fan to cool it further or is the the normal temperature at which most routers can function? Does a modem/router combo run hotter than just a cable modem unit?

Do you have a link for the fans that you would be willing to share?

I want to put my eero router outside. I found a nice box on Amazon, but my concern is the signal. If you have your router inside the box, does it affect the signal at all?

For 8port Poe switch and one fiber optic media converter which size is suitable for outdoor enclosure.

  • @mathewshoyt1763

did you ever upgrade to a larger NEEMA enclosure?
