- Welcome back to Ultimate Tech Hub, on today's episode of Home Networking 101 we will add 4 networking devices to our residential network box and mount a wireless router above the box. We will use a bracket from Legrand ON-q to help with installation of these network devices. We will show you organizational techniques and wire management. We will also go over all the devices in our network box and explain what each one does. These devices are not the typical hardware you would see in many homes. Our home is an Amazon Smart Home and a Lennar Certified WIFI home. Our residential network box is the ON-q ENP3050-NA Plastic Media Enclosure and we used the ON-q AC1040 Universal Mounting Bracket to install 3 of our networking devices.( Modem, Western Digital Cloud, 8-Port Switch) We hope by showing you these smart home devices that it will give you some ideas to implement in your home. I think that the reason the holes didn't line up is because you need to rotate the plate 90 degrees. Then the plates in the Universal Mounting Plate should line up with the normal plunger holes in the back of the enclosure (the holes you are using were intended for mounting the enclosure to a wall, not for mounting that plate).
Yes that's probably why, however I needed more vertical space for my devices. It worked out well but thank you for the great comment.
@Ultimate Tech Hub I apologize if someone has already mentioned this topic, however, the reason that you needed to drill extra holes is because you were mounting the plate in "portrait" orientation whereas it is designed to be mounted in "landscaped" orientation. You can actually see that there is about an inch or two on either side of the vertically mounted bracket and you can almost picture the holes lining up during installation, if it had been mounted horizontally, or "landscape" oriented as I mentioned previously. But great job on the clean install.
Yes someone already mentioned the bracket going the other way but in my Network Panel it wouldn't t fit that way the panel is not wide enough. Maybe the bracelet is for a different panel. If you get s chance watch a more recent video to see the even better improvements to the panel. I added backup power and rewired the entire Network Panel. Nice job on your cable management. I will suggest eliminating the POE injector for the ring camera and going straight to the Ruckus Switch. To avoid an extra point of failure . It looks to me thats an Ruckus 7150-C12P, if yes the switch is POE+ and can power the ring camera. 👌
Yep it can power the ring doorbell and I should just plug it into the ruckus switch to eliminate the chance of failure and to free up some extra space. I probably take your advice and switch it over. Thanks for watching and if you subscribed thank you as well.
I have one of these boxes in my laundry room IMO it's better to install a traditional network rack. You will outgrow these boxes pretty quickly especially if you want to install standard rack gear. I plan on moving all of my structured wiring to a standard rack which I will hang in the garage.
I didn't see it mentioned yet but also it's not great practice to cut a large hole in your sheet rock to push wires through and leave open. You should use grommets and other ways to seal whenever possible. Large open penetrations let all the conditioned air out of the house (unnecessary conditioning costs and makes your house very "leaky") not to mention any bugs etc that are in the attic and other unsealed areas into the house.
I have the same modem and it will over heat and throttle internet speeds. I added a USB Fan from AC Infinity and haven’t any problems since then.
I switched over to fiber many months ago. Saved me about 100 dollars a month. Here is my install video.

Love the video. I'm thinking of doing something similar. However, instead of a router that has to fit outside the box, I'm going to use unifi usg going into unifi poe switch and my ont will have to fit in there. I'm going to use ceiling and wall mount unifi ap's powered by poe for wireless throughout. I'm going to add coax routing for the home in my box. Then at each location where I will have tv's i'm going to use poe powered unifi mini switches behind a small media box behind the tvs.

Could you have mounted the wireless router inside the box if you had the room for it? Does it affect signal? Or does the wireless router need to be placed outside the cabinet? Thanks!
I could have installed it in the panel but closing the panel door would hamper the signal. The panel door shows a diagram of a router inside the panel. We also have a wireless access point in our front hallway ceiling. Here is more detailed video of the panel and the smart features.

I'd recommend moving some of the Smart/IOT hubs out of there and closer to the center of the home. There's a lot of signal density there and could lead to interference.

@@DonaldEdney Awesome!! Great advice! I kept my 3 Hubs in the enclosure and they all work great with no issues. The ruckus ICX switch gets a bit warm so generally leave the door open. Ultimate Tech Hub does your router get updated firmware ? Because I have the 9300 I believe and it’s not had an updated firmware availabile since i purchased it ... I love that it gives me great WiFi speeds but ok thinking maybe I need to get a different router .. I spent 200 bucks on this thing when I got over a year ago .
@@ShayHFamilyVlogs I havent had any updates on my router and I've had mine for almost 2 years. I will get a new once wifi 6 is more affordable. Otherwise this router is plenty fast. Sounds your router is plenty fast too. I wouldn't get a new until it breaks or until wifi 6 gets cheaper.

I think the add-in bracket goes horizontally. Might be why the holes didn't match up when you mounted it vertically.

Looks nice when done but really not a practical set up if you have to work inside the panel. As one who commonly has to work in these, I can say I have never seen one that is sized large enough. That’s why they are so often a mess with things dangling from cords, cover won’t fit on etc. What would be better? A large ventilated cabinet mounted on the wall, not in the wall, with shelves and removable panels for easy access to everything.
Absolutely correct a large shelf or rack mount system would be way easier to work with and organize. Check out this updated video on my panel it looks 100 percent better. You can fast forward through the UPS install if you want. My wires look way more organized. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it.
why have the ring doorbell powered by a poe injector when you have a poe switch?
The injector came with the ring doorbell. I can always connect it to my POE switch however now my POE switch is full. Thanks for watching.
Interesting. I've got a 42" Legrand enclosure so perhaps my router will fit in it. I wondered what the tabs on the sides were for, but I see it's designed to be placed IN the wall, so that makes sense. I'm probably gonna hang it on the cinderblock in the unfinished side of my basement. Hopefully the block wall doesn't block/reduce my wifi coverage to the other side of the house. I'll try and make in real clean though. :D
I have a Nest Google WiFi mesh system and am struggling to get a good WiFi signal in our house. Any suggestions where to place the nest WiFi devices ?
Keep the mesh devices at no more than 50 feet away from each other. This should provide you with a strong signal.

@@mitube4u yes 2 will fit with plenty of room. Make sure to add the exrra power strips because 4 outlets is not enough.

New build I signed up for the package for two cameras, a cable, cable line and an Internet cat wire. Am I paying $430 for the box or can I order these things à la cart and save money and just put them on a shelf with my router my eight point switch on my wireless access point which I’m buying anyway?

I’m setting up a new office which will have 4 computers , 3 video cameras, a video TV , 2 phones lines and 1 Smart TV

Yes absolutely. Lennar homes usually come with a Wireless Access point installed in the ceiling so you could leave you router in the panel room. Check out my newer videos for the Smart Home Tour 2022. It shows all the Lennar smart home products. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it.
Do you have jam everything into a box? I get that it looks nicer/cleaner to have it all in a a box, but can I just mount all the components onto a wall in my utility room? that way I can space out the components for heat purposes and actually see where the cords are running if I ever need to troubleshoot my network.
You can definitely mount the components to the wall. I would actually get a sheet of large 4 foot by 4 foot half inch particle board then mount all your components to the board and organize the wires with clips then mount the board to the wall.
@@UltimateTechHub thanks for the reply. All these metal boxes say UL Listed on them so it was making me wonder if it’s some kind of fire code requirement to have everything in a UL Listed box.
@@Macarthurmaintenance i believe some particle boards are fire retardant. But most network devices are low voltage and will not be a fire hazard. Good luck and keep me posted.
How did you place an electrical outlet for the router inside the access panel? Was it a standard size outlet? Trying to place inside a 4" wide wall.
It was already pre-installed in my panel. If you install a panel like this you need to hire a electrician to install the outlet and make sure he installs 2 outlets. You can never have too many outlets. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it.

I am trying to have my contractor make all cables hidden including power for router which will sit just above the access panel for all the CAT cable connections. I am hoping he can fit a power outlet in there and do what you did to make a nice hole for cables above the access panel in wall.

You should never plug a power strip into another power strip. You could of run both cords to the bottom outlet.

Nice work. If I may recommend one change: the power supply. Putting a UPS on has saved my equipment in the past where I have lost equipment with surge protectors. Very nice work friend.

Why can’t you use industrial Velcro to mount your boxes where you want them inside the enclosure rather then mount that special bracket in there and be limited with placement?

Dumb question....Can I/should I punch down the incoming internet service line to my patch panel or just connect directly into the modem? Thanks
That's a good question and it really doesn't matter which way you go. I always connect directly to the modem. But thats just how I do it. I did a lot of punch down in my college classes and its actually pretty easy. Good luck and keep ne posted!!

What did you use to mount your icx switch? I have the same switch? But haven’t found a clean way to mount it yet.
I have a large white plastic piece that has 4 custom holes and is screwed into the panel and I also used long Velcro straps to secure the icx switch to that plastic piece. Can the legrand enclosure be installed from inside the enclosure? The instructions looks like it installs under the drywall.
It's installed inside the wall and attached to the wall studs. The drywall is just cut out so the enclosure fits.
@@UltimateTechHub so to clarify, id have to expose the studs and instal it directly to the studs and have to drywall over after installed?
@@javinho9459 If your studs are 14 inches on center then the enclosure will fit perfect. So cut the drywall only where the enclosure will fit. The enclosure is 14 inches wide.

You shouldn't be mounting the my cloud with Velcro because it has a shining hard rive inside, so it ends to be steady and free of shaking from the velcro

P.S. I got it. The plug has to be inserted from the top, after you attach the panel. I was trying to insert them into the closet, and put the panel on top, which didn't work.
@@Ig0r15 Yep I have installed many of those brackets and those clips always give me a hard time that's why I use screws most of the time.
How do you open the huge white box ?
Will your devices overheat once you closed the panel?
No; I have had the panel door closed for many weeks without opening it. I do leave the panel door open most of the time because I do a lot of filming around that panel. I have probably a dozen videos on that panel in the last 12 months. Plus it just looks cool. Thanks for watching!!
so what happens when the people that built your house decide to run all of your catv coax, all of your alarm triggers, and 32 ethernet cables in one tiny wall network panel? i wish i could find these guys in a back alley. to make it worse, they mounted alarm boxes, control keypads and electric outlets in the same wall bay. i'm literally screwed unless someone can think of a way to get the ethernet cables out somehow.
You could call a low voltage installer and see if he can rerun the ethernet to a different closet in your house. You can purchase a larger network panel to install in the wall. Probably need to hire an electrician to add some outlets to the panel.
@@UltimateTechHub this has been driving me nuts since I bought the house 4 years ago, trying to hook up a rack system and they've made it impossible without tearing into drywall relocating panels rerouting coax alarm cables and ethernet into another wall bay. I can access it from both sides, lots of drywall painting and headache. Or sell the house. LOL
My wifi goes offline being on. Everything seems working but there’s no internet.

Do a reset. Unplug the router from the power for 30 seconds and you can do the same with your modem. It will take about 2 minutes or so to go back on line. Keep me posted.
You shouldn't run the power cable through the wall like that from the router.
He made it clear elsewhere in the comments that he thinks it’s perfectly fine to run power cables naked inside the wall. He defended it repeatedly despite the electrical code violation. Flagrant ignorance

My house was built last year and they put a small enclosure, assholes. They also ran 3 cat6 wires and the alarm panel wire, they call it “smart home”.
I was thinking of installing another box (same size) under the current box but maybe I don’t need that much space.
That would work or remove the small enclosure and replace with one large enclosure.
@@UltimateTechHub definitely not removing the existing one because I have fiber coming down from the attic. I mean it's possible but I risk messing the fiber cable and having to pay for a repair. I actually ordered a "rack" tray that I'm going to be installing about 3-4 ft high above the current box, this is for my router and network switch.

Important to protect wires as they pass through the punch out holes using the plastic grommets - especially how you pushed the extra cable length back inside wall. No reason to put big NAS inside cabinet - in will survive longer and perform better close to one of the computer terminals. If you still can’t fit wireless router inside that media enclosure then better off getting a second box and mount above the existing one. You’ve mounted that router halfway inside your hanging shirts. The cabinet uses a plastic that’s completely transparent to WiFi signals so no reason to surface mount like to did. And running power cables bare inside the wall violates the general electrical code - only data cables can be routed that way. Best solution is to get a much smaller footprint mesh router - besides easily fitting you’ll get better speed, better coverage and improved security in a smart home environment. This is an amateur job - it takes years of learning and experience to to this correctly. UA-cam videos can be a poor substitute for professional advice

Your cable managment wasnt the best on this. constructive critisims here not being an ass. Just that there was a number of ways to have a nice efficient setup in this cab but you were not willing to put the required work in
