  • Vishy Anand was known as the lightning kid when he was growing up. Why did everyone call him that? Well, perhaps this game from the 8th round of the Quenza Open 2024 could answer the question? Anand was up against the very talented French GM Marc Andria Maurizzi - also the former World Junior Champion in 2023. It was a clash of generations and an exciting battle. Commentary by IM Sagar Shah.

      No need for such small gestures, simply show your respect over the board and that is enough.

    • @my_name_is_giovanni_giorgio
      @my_name_is_giovanni_giorgio Місяць тому +3

      @@sauron4313 it’s an act of respect, you take your hat off when playing chess with someone like vishy, or anyone really. It is something you learn from your parents, to respect people on and off the board, it might be a “small gesture” but it still is a sign of respect for your opponent and the game.

    • @sauron4313
      @sauron4313 Місяць тому +6

      @@my_name_is_giovanni_giorgio Both Vishy and his opponent are there to play a game of chess, not a fashion contest, so his opponent can wear whatever he wants because that is his own comfort level. Also, how does it respect the game? If anything, you are implying that one should compromise their own personal decisions if they see someone "worth" respecting, which is a completely false narrative as every human being is equal. Yes, if he chooses to take his hat off, he can do that, and it can be viewed whatever way you want. I don't see why him keeping his hat on is of any significance though, as he respects his opponent Vishy directly over the board, which is much more important and the whole purpose that they are there.

    • @my_name_is_giovanni_giorgio
      @my_name_is_giovanni_giorgio Місяць тому

      @@sauron4313 Nobody it's obliged to take off your hat during a game of chess, unless of course you are playing in a fide tournament, where it's forbidden to play with a hat on, because it's considered disrespectful and you could be hiding something under it to cheat. Taking your hat off when entering closed rooms, or when going inside someone's home, or to sit a table to eat, or to play a game of chess is considered respectful, and it has been since people used hats a lot in the past. It is not something I created, its a tradition that was taught to me by my parents. Everyone can wear a hat during a chess match, but it will be considered disrespectful to your opponent, it is that simple, and it has been for a very long time, it doesn't matter if your opponent is vishy or someone else.

    This young guy who holds a record of becoming world juniors champ is showing some gesture of sarcasm towards a very humble and erstwhile world champ in the early stage of the game but gradually felt like being constricted by an anaconda towards the endgame until being swallowed whole!
