Ashwin ji is a Sadhak. Like Pt.Nikhil Banerjee. He is least bothered about his market value. He doesn’t have the mindset to sell himself shamelessly. These milestone recordings will remain forever . Even after he gets old. Bhoopali is a raag which is till date considered as an “unplayable “ raag in Bansuri. Thanks to Ashwinji’s mastery over the thumb hole and the raga , we can now see the myth broken by him. This a historically important recording. You need not be sad Billa Singh ji, because he is creating history and he himself must be very happy for that. His works are piling up one after another and forming a palace which will be touching the sky in near future for sure.
For people to know what ashwin ji is doing, they need to have that level of knowledge. Only then they will appreciate his heavenly work. But people nowadays are playing flute just to look cool and gain followers on instagram. And sadly also getting followers. 🙁

But he used his fingertips on the holes, and it was very problematic to manage the thumb hole for him. So he didn’t use it. Pt.Ashwin Srinivasan has got it from his Guru and he is the one who has widely popularised it. As he has shown how to make it and how to play it properly, it has become very popular among the flautists. I am using it for the last 6months or so, and now I just can’t live without it.

You have been my inspiration, the level of minute carving I listen in your rendition, thanks for introducing some rare ragas which are unheard of, on flute, like shankara, sohini. I am learning flute from last 6 years, and came across a lot of flutists, but your work still remains one of the best I have been listened, in the longest time. More power to you.

I feel connected and i realized today that your style is what i used to connect to myself easily with my rhythm, even than that of sir hari prasad.Im a flute lover and blow somes and after downloading and listening some of your instructions and pieces, i felt like there is a frequency between your khayal and me, may be its because of our age similarities that i couldn't connect with Hari Prasad sir even after listening for six years as much.
Playing the style that Guruji (Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia ji) is not that easy . He plays his own unique style by mixing gayaki, tantkari etc. It requires hours of practice after listening. I play both Banaras and Maihar gharana style and Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia ji's style is by mixing them both so it is very difficult. Practice hard and you will get it and please don't try to play songs at first practice different alankars , then Raagas and try to gain some knowledge on gayaki and tantkari. You will get it.

Bhoopali becomes anything when played by anyone at anytime. i am learning bhoopali on bansuri and wanted to start aalaap from gandhar/pancham... your take certainly opens the possibilities. this one is so unique and unheard 😇
The mukhda of the bandish is in Madhya /mandra saptak so as a learner it this helps to improvise and make phrases. Coz i always rush to move beyond Madhya saptak towards taar saptak. I always rush towards taar saptak while playing How should I practice to overcome this. Pls help🙏
