Just watched this one for the first time and it's like a time machine. I just want to tell this Josh it gets better and way more interesting. Josh you are doing a good job. Respect from Africa 🇿🇦
Fellow market farmer here! If you want a broad fork where the tines don't bend (I know had one that I had to keep hammering back) get the meadow creature industructiable one. It works amazingly and has made making new beds so much easier and the tines never bend!
I watched a couple of your videos. I really enjoyed them. I like the quick, straightforward, honest advice. You seem genuine and look like you're having a good time. Thanks for making these.
Hey Josh that is a beautiful looking plot and you show some really clever ideas. Have you tried the no-dig methods to prepare and keep your beds in top shape? It saves a lot of back aches.
I noticed that you broadforked these new beds _after_ you applied the top-dressing of compost, making it necessary to walk on the new topsoil during this step. What's the advantage of doing it this way? I would have thought it would make more sense to _first_ broadfork, then apply compost, rake, run the tilther, and then rake, since you could then avoid any compaction of the compost layer from foot traffic. Perhaps it doesn't matter since the tilther probably undoes any of this (minor) compaction? This is a serious question, not a criticism! You're the market gardener, and I'm not so I am genuinely curious about this.
I actually have done it both ways and it doesn't really matter. Some people like to broadfork after applying compost so that some of the compost can get a bit more incorporated into the soil. On my normal bed flips I broadfork before putting down compost. Check out this video about how I flip beds ua-cam.com/video/sN-JCyM0HZs/v-deo.html
Cut the ends off so it will fit the bed please. I am going 30 inches on my beds cause of you. I will cut my landscape rake to fit the bed. I like the nice straight lines your beds are arranged in. No reason this can't look decorative.
go no till and see that you dont need all that work, which only does good things in our imagination and in reality just brings up weed seed to germinate. i'm sure you have plenty other work instead of mixing soil. nice beds.

This is satisfying to watch. Your beds look so neat. Good job.
I went for a metal hay rake in 78cm. Close enough in width and for 35 EUR quite cheap.
Thank you for sharing your great advice...beautiful garden.

Awesome vid Josh! Ya the tilther is ridiculously priced!
It's insanely priced! Almost 700....
Question. If you would have tilled or disced that area would you have still use the broadfork?
Hey Josh that is a beautiful looking plot and you show some really clever ideas. Have you tried the no-dig methods to prepare and keep your beds in top shape? It saves a lot of back aches.
Some people call it no dig and some people call it no till. Yeah, we don't till (or dig) at all.
thank you. very informative
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
First year: Go all in on a bigger jang or go with a smaller seeder AND get a tilther for turning beds?
JP1 + tilther no question
If you're trying to get the microbe content activated and turbocharged in your beds, you gotta use compost tea. Shit's magic.
WOW Great video Josh, question is the alfalfa organic or a GMO alfalfa Round Up ready? Thanks
Thanks! It's organic alfalfa meal.

Where’s a good place to buy the amendments they seem to be high for 3 and 10 bags on eBay
I buy mine from a local farm store. I believe they order some stuff from here:

Where did you get your chicken fence from? Keep the videos coming

Great videos! Do you have a local source for alfalfa meal?
I buy it from a local farm supply store. I'm not sure where they source it from.
Did you make that broad fork yourself?
I got it from Dubois.

I actually have been liking the 36" length now. I hold it at an angle and drag it across the bed.
How do you water all this?

The manure is labeled "organic" because it contains carbon 😂

Yeah, that's the one I have my eye on for sure. I've heard good things about the Meadow Creature.
