I love the patterns in this video, but if you say that we should look at NC 2-step as QQS, then why start on the slow? I have been dancing NC 2-step for over 30 years and it was originally taught to rock step on the 1. What is the advantage to start on the slow?

Thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate your kind words.
That's a good question and there are several answers.
Nitghtclub is a very interesting dance, it started in the bars and neither Buddy or Michael made it up.
It definitely dances differently, feels different, looks different when it's danced on the upbeat as compared to the downbeat.
If you dance Cha Cha, we do a starter 1 to the side to ensure we rock on the 2, it fits the music better.
Nightclub feels more like a latin dance to me, especially, Bolero, not sure if you know the dance, but it feels a lot like that.
When it's danced quickly it feels more like sideways Salsa.
I think the music can definitely make you want to dance it one way or another.
The natural rhythm of a triple is quick, quick , slow whether starting on a odd or event number.
Play with it in your head when you're dancing it and see if it makes you dance differently or more musically by starting each new pattern with the quick quick after starting on the Slow on a downbeat.
Let me know how it goes.

@@DAmicoDanceHouston thanks for responding! I feel like because we don't lower our heel on the rock step of NC, which keeps the hips from moving like in cha cha or rumba, it keeps it from feeling like a latin dance. I appreciate the smooth flowing style of NC. I think if the music is slow it lends more to a SQQ timing. I guess I just prefer the faster rhythm of rocking on 1 & stepping side on 2. I teach dance here in Vegas, please contact me if you're ever in town.

The UCWDC certainly put their own spin on the dance making it more of a smooth dance instead of a rhythm dance by dancing it to slower songs and adding swing and sway. I agree with you that if you don’t put the heel down it doesn’t feel like International Latin, but it does resemble Cumbia a bit, especially to faster songs. On slower songs and for UC and AC circuits, we’re asked to put the heel down on first quick with the feet in 3rd position which causes the hips to rotate, but not until transfer of weight. Whereas when I see it danced with the heel not touching the ground the rotation of the hips occurs prior to transfer of weight making it look more like an East Coast Swing Rock Step.
      I love this stuff!
Thanks for the great conversation and I’ll certainly let you know. I believe I’m there in July.

Great lesson! Check out "The Camel Song" by Tim Stark from his instrumental album, SIRENA. I believe this pretty song is actually a Nightclub Two Step. What do you all think? Song #3 itunes.apple.com/us/album/sirena/1363007213?app=itunes&ign-mpt=uo%3D4
