Smugness!?... Ireland played that game in an arrogant way. Could have taken points on offer but chose to kick for the corner on at least two occasions. Ireland will have to learn that being no. 1 doesn't guarantee success... just like we (NZ) learnt the hard way in the late '90s/ early '00s. Good luck for the future....really enjoyed the Irish team of the last few years

It was arrogance, Sexton has missed a few key penalties over the years and they have had great success with points from lineout maul, so it's just a calculated risk, unfortunately their lineout was poor all tournament so generally didn't get the rewards, I do think there was poor game management in that area, either go short or kick points. They must have seen England against Argentina, drop goals and penalties and racked up the scoreboard. Mu h has been said about the last 10 mins, but I think the quick start settled NZ, if Ireland had started quick i think they would have gained confidence.

@@Icanbacktrailers I would say that Ireland have been naive in their world cup tactics, playing their full team in every game was more of necessity as they didn't have the easy run to the quarters as the other 3 big teams and this led to fatigue in the knockout game. But any 'smugness' was promoted from the media, and the NZ media in particular were bigging up Ireland and using lots of clickbait titles to wind up kiwis and likely motivate their players, English and SA pundits were doing the same. NZ know how to win tournaments by managing all the external pressures, the media, the ref, getting players correctly motivated, Ireland went in thinking they could play their best rugby and that would be enough, but 'The Team' were not smug, I challenge you to find any derogatory comment from Farrell about another team, he showed them all the greatest of respect in victory a defeat, unlike Foster, who after scraping a win by hanging on to a 4 point lead, said Irelands attack is 'cut and paste' and easy to stop, that is 'smugness!

For a country who had never made it past a WC QTR the cockiness & arrogance had gone off the charts. World Cups are different gravy. We learnt many years ago now, you don’t peak as a team between WC’s. it’s all about building for those 3 consecutive weeks of knockout games. I think on another show one commentator mentioned that the scrum of 7 AB's against 8 Irish was the turning point, when Ireland never won that scrum it seemed indicative of a sense of collective loss and they felt that loss more than any other scrum. Look inside for the solution because if you continue to look elsewhere you'll continue to struggle just as the AB's did. As for Ioane & Sexton, they are both very competitive so that's where it stays, on the field.

Jodie preventing a try being scored is one thing, who's to say the ab's wouldn't have scored shortly after if he hadn't stopped the try from being scored. The game had 10 more minutes to run. Long time in rugby. The way the game was trending once the ab's were restored to their full complement of 15 players and with the amount of X Factor players in their team, if Jordie didn't stop the try from being scored, it's highly likely the ab's would have scored again and won the game. But, we'll never now will we. Just like we'll never know that if Ireland went for post instead of the corners they might have won. It's all conjecture and what if's. Besides, the way Johnny Sad Sack was kicking he probably would have choked on those just like he did in 2013.
Ireland seem to be at their best against an ab's team when the ab's are a man down or 2, or the officials turn a blind eye to their indiscretions just my observations. Porter gave away the first two penalties and then a few more scrum penalties. A player giving away that amount of penalties would have been marched for 10 probably by another official. Lowe should have sat down as well.
The ab's are smug, really? Well, coming for you lot the ab's will probably take that as a compliment. I know I would. If Foster saw your podcast he'd probably give it a whole 2 seconds of thought and then carry on preparing the lads for the Argies. Something your guys aren't, they're doing preseason getting ready for the start of the URC. Your credibility like Woodward, Barnes, and many other UK journos, podcasters, ex players, public, and whoever else up that way, are shot to shit. And all of you are setting new standards of being the biggest sore losers the world has ever seen. Continuingly trying to find excuses for your teams failure to move beyond the quarters. Try accepting the fact that you can't always get what you want. You were beaten by a better team. You weren't good enough and life and the world is not fair. AB's supporters have seen this movie played out before. One minute you and your mates are playing rugby in front of millions of people. Sledging players for being a lesser version of their predecessor or not good enough to represent their country of origin, the following week you're playing club footy two weeks earlier than you expected.
Move on and try doing it with a little humility and grace, last week is all fisn'n'chip paper now.

Point of correction my good sir, as a fellow All Blacks fan. The Ireland series win is the only one that preceded the Jase Ryan and Joe Schmidt era. The two Argentina losses chronologically came before and after Jase Ryan and Joe Schmidt had been appointed. The Argentina loss in Christchurch came after the high of that ABs 35-23 win at Ellis Park, that would have marked the end of Ian Foster's tenure. So there was a loss to Argentina in late 2022, after Jase and Joe came on board. That game was probably also Richie Mo'unga's worst game. I remember the uproar especially from Matt Williams when the Boks chose their 7:1 split. Not sure Matt appear in this pod. However after that uproar to go and say the Irish were in both ABs and Boks heads was quite bizzare. What we can say for sure is right now Ireland is in no one's head.

I worry for Ireland not taking their learnings from this WC but also past WCs, I see them in the same position as NZ when they couldn't win a world cup final until 2011, and they just won that. The All Blacks learnt their hard lessons the hard way, their nation demanded it of them, there was no pat on the back if they lost, weather that's good or bad it has shaped them. I feel like for Ireland to become thee great pinnicle like the All Blacks are, they need to learn how to win between the world cups as you have already shown, but how to win sudden death WC games, that is the last lesson Ireland needs to learn. I'm a kiwi but I love Ireland's style of rugby, kia kaha, come back in 4 years and prove the world wrong and advance.

The All Blacks are allowed to celebrate winning and be happy about it that’s not being smug. I understand you will be disappointed but behaving like sore losers doesn’t do you an favours . Even though many have written off Argentina in the semis, the All Blacks have shown nothing but respect to them as they do will all their opponents and do not buy into the narrative that they are supposed favourites. They know full well how things can turn out if you take your eye off the ball or underestimate your opponent. It’s a 50/50 chance of winning just as it was with Ireland and I hope the ABs can win 🙏

And hats off they played a great game when it mattered. Also maybe some on the NZ side prefer to see Ireland as the country they never lost to for over a hundred years and it’s now developing into a good rivalry where either team can have legitimate claims to win on any given day.
