  • The final leg of our December trip with Matt in his Prado. Descending from Mt Pinnibar, we head via Mt Anderson to Mt Gibbo, up a big rock step on the Eastern side of Mt Gibbo to get to the summit.
So worth it, amazing views and an easier run down the western side sees our path to Mt Sassafrass blocked so we exit the high country via Paddy Joy Track and a quick visit to Wheelers Creek Hut that was rebuilt after teh 2019 bushfires.

Fun! Description at the start echoes why I love the VIC high country. Drone ascent is fantastic with that tree front of shot, couldn't have planned it better :D - well done Matt! Reminds me of Mt Wellington scenery. .I thought I wanted a rear diff lock, but not so sure any more after that rock step:D Big adventure with that tree down and glad you made it to wheeler's hut- its on my list now! I would have stopped at Paddy Joy for sure too - looks like prime location for a camp fire! Best scenery in the world.." Probably not for today, but definately on the list." You are becoming one of the most experienced travellers in these parts Jase. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thx Dan, was a great trip and yeah Matt's captured some great footage with his drone. I've got one just, aheam waiting to find the time to get it setup and running.... someone spends all their spare time driving the car towards the high country. Still so many tracks to explore up there!!!

Nice trip. I did Pinninar early Feb. after a night of rain and that climb up was fun and the wash outs tested the car . Gibbo is such nice drive and after watching your vid I need to go back .
Now you have to do them all again in the new car , lucky you 😂

So true Mate. Literally just got back from a trip. The Eastern side of the gibbo summit is almost undriveable now it's been chewed up so bad. I was going to have a crack but it started raining and we decided to focus on getting off their safely while we could.

Another great informative episode Jase, I’m heading up that way back to work on Tuesday for a few days. Thanks for the heads up.
My next episode drops Sat, it’s similar to this one, west of Mt Pinnibar, Wheelers, Gibsons Huts and Thowgla Falls, plus a few tracks you went on also. Might have to check that Zulu Creek Trk, sounds good. 👍🏼

Thx Gav, will look forward to that there's a few there I haven't been to! Love the way that twin locked troopy just does everything without any fuss :-)

We did that area in Sept 22. We came down Zulu creek track and it was in good condition but very loose, I wouldn't have liked to have gone back up it then, we did the crossing even though Zulu creek had quite a bit of water coming down it. Despite what it looks like on your video, Paddy Joy creek can get quite a lot of water down it. I'm guessing it was about waist deep but its short so depth not such an issue but we turned around bc it had very high flow and dirty water so I couldn't see what was in it.
