i have made my first floor plan by importing an architectural floor plan as a background (and scaled it to the sweet home 3d unit lengths) so I was then able to set up all my furniture in it (to scale with the plan's dimensions). So everything is perfect! :) :) :) Now, the problem is that we are probably going to move to a different house than the one I had made my plan for.... :( :( :( So is there a way to change the background and import the new architectural floor plan of the new house (and, of course, import it also to scale), BUT KEEP all my furniture pieces in the sweet home 3d plan (so that I don't have to do everything AGAIN)??
Of course, it's possible, the idea of having a furniture list is also for this kind of situation. I would suggest to create a new home, and simply copy paste the furniture from the first home to the second one. Just take care to give the focus to the plan or the furniture list before pasting (click in either one).
Thank for you REALLY fast reply!! :) I tried it another way (before I read your reply). On the menu bar, I went to "Plan" - "Modify Background Image" - and then I just changed it from there. I obviously had to then move the furniture around and out of the way as they were "all over the place" in relation to the new background image, but that was to be expected. A few of more questions: 1. Is there something wrong with the way I did it, in comparison to your method? (Should I expect items or image to not be in scale etc)? 2. When you suggested that I copy the furniture list from one plan to the next, did you mean that i should do that from the list on the bottom-left part of the app's interface; or by selecting the actual furniture pieces on the 1st plan itself, copy them, and then paste them on the new plan? In either case, don't i have to have both plans open at the same time in order to be able to do so? 3. What did you mean by "furniture list"? Is there somewhere that I can save my specific furniture items - as I have designed them - in the app itself, so that I can whenever I open Sweet home 3D I can immediately access my "pool" of items?? (I thought that to access these items I would have had to open the 1st floor plan - that have my furniture pieces created/saved in - and then be able to use/copy them onto another plan. Isn't that necessary?) 4. Is there any way to edit the imported floor plan (background image)? Meaning, the floor plan I imported as a background doesn't have very bold lines, nor dimensions' numbers and arrows, so maybe I could play with some attributes (eg contrast, black point, color, saturation etc) to make the lines more defined/"bold" so that they can be as visually prominent as the created furniture items are? @@SweetHome3D
Wonder if there is a way after drawing the floor plan for it to create a footer plan, electrical plan, plumbing plan, elevation, roof plan etc? It seems from this tutorial it's just the rudimentary 3d of the floor plan. Hoping to find somethign that will then further convert the floor plan at least to a footer and foundation plan.
How can we change the color of text of furniture pieces so that it can be seen when placed on top of objects (eg. making text white so it can be seen when over a dark-colored 2D object)? Also is there a way of changing the color of dimension lines so that they can be easily seen when placed over a black and white floor plan?
Hey, I just started using the tool; so far, so good, but I have some doubts. 1. can I create my own product library, i.e. my own customised models from scratch, and keep them in my favourite folder? 2. Can I export a project created with sweet home 3d elsewhere to generate realistic renderings or maybe use some plug-ins? @sweethome3D. Could you help me here?
where is the brush tool to erase mistakes (eg wrong walls etc) in the background image (after we have applied all the items/furniture etc with sweet home)? I cannot find this brush (paint brush and erase brush) anywhere. I tried editing the background image in an external program but when reimporting the "new" background image there are mistakes everywhere (small ones, but still mistakes) which means that everytime we need to make a correction to the background image (the floor plan) - even just to simply erase a line, or add a new brush stroke or 2D box, in the background image, we have to fix EVERYTHING again in the new sweet home project because things are always going to be "off" whenever we re-import a background image if we need to fix the background floor plan outside sweet home. There HAVE to be brush tools like this somewhere in sweet home, right?
@@SweetHome3D not sure what "Paint Brush" is, but pity that it does not have the, relatively, simple option of erasing lines on existing floor plans - or just adding fills and strokes - on the fly, because that would really help everyone a lot (since the problem I described above will always be happening upon re-import of fixed/edited floor plan backgrounds). I do hope you include this soon. ;)

If I want to build room by room, how do I join them? It seems like I have to create a floorplan that encompasses all of my outside walls first, and then divide them up - is that correct?
An important "beginner's" question (which I'm sure would help many people): I have measured every single wall, column, window, door opening etc in a rectangular room. Using a laser measure and a regular one. Each measurement was made twice or more times to be sure they are all correct. However, when I design all my walls & everything in the room (to "perfection"), in SH3D, when the design is nearly finished and I am about to "close" the room design (at the point where the first wall meets the last one at the first/last corner of the room, the walls DON'T MEET PERFECTLY!... I suppose that this is something many people have encountered, and I assume that this is probably because the room is not "perfectly built" (and maybe the 4 corners at not exactly at 90° in real life, which is what stands in the SH3D software). Is there some trick to make the room close perfectly (in floor plan designing in general)? Or is there some kind of tool that exists in SH3D where we can tell the software "these are the correct measurements, this last wall should connect to this first wall at a right angle in order to close the room design, so SH3D, go ahead and connect the first and last wall at this corner to complete the design"?? (I suppose that to do this it would have to go to all the different corners and affect all the angles at the minimum amount needed to make the "corrections" less noticeable.) Maybe this sounds "complicated", but it is essential to doing a very basic thing (close the room design) ;)
In case you didn't notice yet, walls length and the coordinates of their ends are measured in their middle, and you may have to take into account this way of doing. Viewing the tutorial "How to design rooms from their inner dimensions" at ua-cam.com/video/b7tpTT5EMG0/v-deo.html will probably help you if you want to use the dimensions you measured. Managing the angles of an almost rectangular room might get more complicated and you'll have to adjust some lengths afterwards.
