I agree but also isn’t it cool that we have female villains like their always so awesome. Like Grace is kind of a Badass and it’s cool when Cordelia finally puts her in her place. Like grace has her own motivations makes you think if she might change. The fact that she’s working with Lucie also shows she might not be allllll bad (but she’s pretty damn bad)
I’m kinda disappointed that Emma didn’t mention basically anything about Matthew and his character besides the fact that he’s bisexual. I felt he was one if not the best character in Chain of Gold.

Cassie said to not trust the family tree because it’s already betrayed us. 3. I feel like the general consensus for Alastair was a lot of people went into CoG hating him (myself included), but by the end they either absolutely loved him (like me) or understood him a lot betted. The scene where Lucie chases after Alastair after the confrontation with Thomas and Matthew and she noticed that Alastair was crying completely shattered me. I can’t wait to see more of Alastair’s character development in the next two installments. I’m already shipping Thomas and Alastair really hard, but before I can get my epic romance with these two, I need Alastair to really, REALLY, R-E-A-L-L-Y make up for all his past mistakes because while I know Thomas always saw a different side of Alastair that wasn’t the bully that bullied the Merry Thieves, that doesn’t in any way, shape or form, make up for the things that he did. On a happier note, regarding Alastair, the sibling relationship between him and Cordelia was my favorite sibling relationship in the book. 4. I’m so intrigued to see where the Cordelia/James/Matthew/Grace thing goes because 1. I think James and Cordelia are obviously the endgame but Cassie is not going to make it easy to get there, 2. James is still under the control of the Gracelet and thinking that he loves her, and 3. We are led to believe that Matthew is in love with Cordelia at the end (I don’t believe he is. He just cares about her a lot.), but Cassie has already done the parabatai in love with the same girl thing and I don’t think she would do it again, but I guess we will see. 5. Your reaction to Magnus’ first appearance was my reaction. 6. I adored Chain of Gold overall, and I just want to skip the rest of 2020 and go to March 2021, so that Chain of Iron will be out. I don't think Lucie has a power that allowed her to sense James was in danger. When Belial tells James "You are not the only one I can approach", he conjures an image of Lucie, and I think that it's at the same moment that Lucie saw James in the demon realm, so I think Belial sort of reached for Lucie and pulled her a little bit into his realm (not physically, but enough that she could see it).
Not CoG related but just wanted to say: when I was reading The Bane Chronicles I noticed in the short story "Saving Raphael Santiago" that it was forshadowed what happens to Magnus in Thule in Queen of Air and Darkness (it's in around page 9 of the short story) and it's kinda subtle since it's Magnus thinking 'if I ever went mad and poisoned the air around myself I hope someone loves me enought to kill me' or smth but like!!!!! I NEED SOMEONE ELSE TO NOTICE THIS PLS like Cassie forshadowing 5 years earlier
i loved chain of gold so much. It was such a fun story for me, especially since I've been in love with these characters literally since I finished Clockwork Princess. I think I had tears in my eyes at least 15 times throughout this book. And mention of Jem, Will, and Tessa makes me cry, and anything to do with Matthew makes me so sad. I love his character so much and want him to be happy in the future books but I do not like the idea of him and Cordelia together. Also Thomas and Alastair are amazing and the best couple in this book.
I was so heartbroken after the Scene with Thomas, Matthew and Alastair. Alastair is my favourite (I know he did or said a lots of teribble things back at the academy, and there are no excuses, but I just love him so much) and I just really want him to be happy. Also, if Thomastair isn't gonna be Endgame, I'll be really mad

The long intros to the plot actually make the books so much better in my opinion. You get SO immersed in the storyline! Cassie is a master at that, for sure

I think Grace is a fascinating character. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't hate her. She just seems so complicated. She's definitely been abused by Tatiana and there's just so many implications of pain and depth. Yes, she's done awful things, but I think she does honestly care about James in a way. I just can't wait to learn more about her!

I agree with you. I don't get all the hate for Grace. It's pretty clear to me that her mom is the one pulling all the strings (I mean, didn't Grace excuse herself before putting the bracelet on James's wrist? I might be wrong, tho.) Tatiana hates the Herondales (well, actually, she hates pretty much everyone) but Grace doesn't really have a reason to. James was her childhood friend, and I think she really cares about him. I just believe that Tatiana is emotionally distant since losing Jesse, and Grace is just desperate for her mom's love and affection, so she will do anything to earn that.

This book put me in a reading slump. It’s all I can think about... but I don’t think that’s in a good way. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it. There was a disconnect in this book that I haven’t felt in a CC book since MTI (I didn’t love that series). I think Lady Midnight was such a better first book. It felt like nothing and everything was going on at the same time. I’m definitely going to reread it soon and see if my opinion changes, but that’s how I’m feeling right now 🤷♀️

I adored Chain of Gold too. And to think at the end of TDS all I wanted was to skip right over TLH to TWO. But now, love it. TID is always and forever my favorite but this is a VERY close second. I love how in the historical works, all the character speak the way people would have spoken then and really her writing becomes more similar to the writing of the time. Also, I think in Chain of Gold I have met my favorite Herondale. Jamie Herondale forever!
Finished the book yesterday (well, today at 2:30)! What KILLED me is Grace's bracelet that made James believe he was in love with her. I'M not sure if I'M the only one who picked up on it, but I'm SURE of it! From how he just went to Cordelia after Grace "broke-up" with him like nothing happened because he had nothing holding him back. It's the chain of gold, the bracelet. It blew my mind and started crying because HOW DARE YOU DISTURB MY SHIP?!?!
I enjoy watching sit down reviews of books. I get to see people freak out over things I freaked out over. And hearing their thoughts and feelings. It's refreshing in a way because I don't have someone in my life that I can go on and on about books (Cassie's at least)

Whoo I'm here months later because I didn't want to be spoiled lol! I just read it and I my favorite characters are Matthew, Alastair + Thomas. I am most intrigued about their character/ relationship development. I would say I actually appreciate the lengthy introductions because the author likely does that for new readers like me. This is the first book I've read by her and I like that I was able to be invested in the story without having read any prior series.
I waited over a whole year for this video cause i just finished the book a few hours ago. I absolutely loved it and cant wait to read the sequel soon. 😊

I just loved the focus on the characters because characters are always what I care for the most in books. And I love Cordelia with my whole heart and I didn't go into this book expecting that because of all the Cassandra Clare books I have read the main female characters have never been my favorite even if I did like them. But Cordelia is just everything I love and just so many good characters in this book for me to love especially since I haven't read any novellas, I haven't been introduced to any of them before so it was just all so new to me.
I’m so excited for this book. I have a long way to get to it. I’ve been reading in publication order, TMI First 1, 2, 3 3rd being City of Glass. I’m now reading Clockwork Angel, and am now on the Chapter of Camille, the vampire. I love these books. Cassandra Clare is a great writer, I love her books. I love that book swag you got too pretty with the gold.
I was so excited when my copy of Chain of Gold arrived at my house. I immediately started it and read it in two days. I couldn't put it down and this is absolutely my favourite Cassie Clare book, ever. I cannot stop gushing over this book.
Just finished Chain of gold (I still have the bonus story of Tessa and Will) it was 4/5 stars for me. There were so many characters that it took me a LONG time to get sense who is who. I enjoyed the book but I feel like Cassie is recycling some things of her other stories.
Just to mention, CoG came out at the beginning of november in my country, and just hours after finishing it I ran to watch this lol Totally worth the wait tho♡♡
Chain of Gold totally broke me haha. But it also pushed me into starting booktube. Post-Chain of Gold me in my video was still a jumbled mess😂 Alastair was starting to grow on me to by the end of the book, and I am super excited for Chain of Iron!

unpopular opinion: i honestly got kind of bored of james and cordelia’s characters. i was kind of disappointed about their romance so far and felt like it took up too much of their characters. honestly i felt like their romance wasnt all that satisfying either. i also felt like the other characters needed more spotlight! shoutout to my babies: matthew, lucie, anna, alastair, jesse, thomas, christopher, will, tessa, jem, etc
SAME, I was more thrilled to see Lucie and Jesse like a girl falls in love with a ghost(who she only can see) and hopefully raises from the dead. If they ever have kids, it will be the weirdest love story

Cause we know that Tatiana and Grace don't have blackthorn blood. So Jesse is gonna come back trust me and Lucie(more likely) or Tatiana is gonna do it.
@Nadia Rebelo well that's ok love. Everyone has their preferences. I was just really invested in the Lucie and Jesse storyline than others, which included Cordelia heavily. I like Cordelia but she seems all too perfect. She constantly saves the day, always there to support and everyone in this fandom(and the book itself) basically love her. And that's ok but until she has actual flaws and morality challenges. Then she ain't my type of character. I do see the appeal about her but not the hype yet.

Honestly I love the whole concept of Shadow Hunters and I really enjoyed TDA but I just couldn't get through TMI and TID. And now I don't know if I should give Chain of Gold a chance,like I'm so confused because the names of the characters are repeating...soooo what do you guys think??
the names of the characters are repeating because this is a sort of sequel to TID. Honestly, if you couldn't get through the previous Shadowhunter series, maybe try getting this one from the library so that if you also can't get through it, at least you won't have wasted your money. I really liked it but I like all the previous ones.

I am already in the middle of the first of many re-reads, and so far, I have to say that while I liked Chain of Gold well enough (and I mean 4-stars worth), I expected to get even more from it. It´s definitely my fault, because out of all the Shadowhunter Chronicles, The Infernal Devices is my favourite trilogy, so the bar was already way too high. Still, I have loved pretty much all TID characters (with Tessa, Will and Jem getting extra love, of course), and I have been very excited to meet the new generation. However, so far, I am only really loving Cordelia, Matthew and Anna. I suspect we have seen only glimpses of real James when the bracelet was off, and I am ready to forgive and forget in the next book - if he treats Daisy well, that is :) I am also hoping Lucie will get more character development in Chain of Iron. Don´t get me wrong, she is perfectly lovely and cute, but to me, she does not feel fully formed yet. She seems much more child-like than the rest of the gang, not like their peer. I am not seeing the Lucie-Jesse romance yet, either, but I am very curious if and how this is going to work... All that being said, I am going through some serious withdrawal (I have already re-read TID and started Ghosts of the Shadow Market again), and I cannot believe we have almost a year of waiting ahead of us!!!

She's definitely been abused by Tatiana and there's just so many implications of pain and depth. Yes, she's done awful things, but I think she does honestly care about James in a way. I just can't wait to learn more about her!

I agree with you. I don't get all the hate for Grace. It's pretty clear to me that her mom is the one pulling all the strings (I mean, didn't Grace excuse herself before putting the bracelet on James's wrist? I might be wrong, tho.) Tatiana hates the Herondales (well, actually, she hates pretty much everyone) but Grace doesn't really have a reason to. James was her childhood friend, and I think she really cares about him. I just believe that Tatiana is emotionally distant since losing Jesse, and Grace is just desperate for her mom's love and affection, so she will do anything to earn that.

This book put me in a reading slump. It’s all I can think about... but I don’t think that’s in a good way. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it. There was a disconnect in this book that I haven’t felt in a CC book since MTI (I didn’t love that series). I think Lady Midnight was such a better first book. It felt like nothing and everything was going on at the same time. I’m definitely going to reread it soon and see if my opinion changes, but that’s how I’m feeling right now 🤷♀️

I adored Chain of Gold too. And to think at the end of TDS all I wanted was to skip right over TLH to TWO. But now, love it. TID is always and forever my favorite but this is a VERY close second. I love how in the historical works, all the character speak the way people would have spoken then and really her writing becomes more similar to the writing of the time. Also, I think in Chain of Gold I have met my favorite Herondale. Jamie Herondale forever!
Finished the book yesterday (well, today at 2:30)! What KILLED me is Grace's bracelet that made James believe he was in love with her. I'M not sure if I'M the only one who picked up on it, but I'm SURE of it! From how he just went to Cordelia after Grace "broke-up" with him like nothing happened because he had nothing holding him back. It's the chain of gold, the bracelet. It blew my mind and started crying because HOW DARE YOU DISTURB MY SHIP?!?!
I enjoy watching sit down reviews of books. I get to see people freak out over things I freaked out over. And hearing their thoughts and feelings. It's refreshing in a way because I don't have someone in my life that I can go on and on about books (Cassie's at least)

Whoo I'm here months later because I didn't want to be spoiled lol! I just read it and I my favorite characters are Matthew, Alastair + Thomas. I am most intrigued about their character/ relationship development. I would say I actually appreciate the lengthy introductions because the author likely does that for new readers like me. This is the first book I've read by her and I like that I was able to be invested in the story without having read any prior series.

Personally I completely loved this book, the characters and everything, and I can’t wait for the second one!
I just loved the focus on the characters because characters are always what I care for the most in books. And I love Cordelia with my whole heart and I didn't go into this book expecting that because of all the Cassandra Clare books I have read the main female characters have never been my favorite even if I did like them. But Cordelia is just everything I love and just so many good characters in this book for me to love especially since I haven't read any novellas, I haven't been introduced to any of them before so it was just all so new to me.

Just finished Chain of gold (I still have the bonus story of Tessa and Will) it was 4/5 stars for me. There were so many characters that it took me a LONG time to get sense who is who. I enjoyed the book but I feel like Cassie is recycling some things of her other stories.
Just to mention, CoG came out at the beginning of november in my country, and just hours after finishing it I ran to watch this lol Totally worth the wait tho♡♡

unpopular opinion: i honestly got kind of bored of james and cordelia’s characters. i was kind of disappointed about their romance so far and felt like it took up too much of their characters. honestly i felt like their romance wasnt all that satisfying either. i also felt like the other characters needed more spotlight! shoutout to my babies: matthew, lucie, anna, alastair, jesse, thomas, christopher, will, tessa, jem, etc

Cause we know that Tatiana and Grace don't have blackthorn blood. And since Arthur's blood was used to bring back Annabel(who came before Jesse) that will mean that their ancestor had to have had blackthorn blood like Annabel. So Jesse is gonna come back trust me and Lucie(more likely) or Tatiana is gonna do it.
@Nadia Rebelo well that's ok love. Everyone has their preferences. I was just really invested in the Lucie and Jesse storyline than others, which included Cordelia heavily. I like Cordelia but she seems all too perfect. She constantly saves the day, always there to support and everyone in this fandom(and the book itself) basically love her. And that's ok but until she has actual flaws and morality challenges. Then she ain't my type of character. I do see the appeal about her but not the hype yet.

I really did like chain of gold but I thought that some things in the book were similar to other shadowhunters novels but I did quiet enjoy it.
I love book darts!!! I use them all the time except the last can I bought, the lid got stuck on the can. It’s cross threaded and I can’t get it. I’m going to have to drill a hole in the top and get them out.

Honestly I love the whole concept of Shadow Hunters and I really enjoyed TDA but I just couldn't get through TMI and TID. And now I don't know if I should give Chain of Gold a chance,like I'm so confused because the names of the characters are repeating...soooo what do you guys think??
the names of the characters are repeating because this is a sort of sequel to TID. Honestly, if you couldn't get through the previous Shadowhunter series, maybe try getting this one from the library so that if you also can't get through it, at least you won't have wasted your money. I really liked it but I like all the previous ones.

I am already in the middle of the first of many re-reads, and so far, I have to say that while I liked Chain of Gold well enough (and I mean 4-stars worth), I expected to get even more from it. It´s definitely my fault, because out of all the Shadowhunter Chronicles, The Infernal Devices is my favourite trilogy, so the bar was already way too high.
Still, I have loved pretty much all TID characters (with Tessa, Will and Jem getting extra love, of course), and I have been very excited to meet the new generation. However, so far, I am only really loving Cordelia, Matthew and Anna. I suspect we have seen only glimpses of real James when the bracelet was off, and I am ready to forgive and forget in the next book - if he treats Daisy well, that is :)
I am also hoping Lucie will get more character development in Chain of Iron. Don´t get me wrong, she is perfectly lovely and cute, but to me, she does not feel fully formed yet. She seems much more child-like than the rest of the gang, not like their peer. I am not seeing the Lucie-Jesse romance yet, either, but I am very curious if and how this is going to work...
All that being said, I am going through some serious withdrawal (I have already re-read TID and started Ghosts of the Shadow Market again), and I cannot believe we have almost a year of waiting ahead of us!!!
