To me it feels like the nerf for the 152mm APFSDS the MBT/KPZ-70 and the XM-803 get, yeah it can’t frontally kill as much anymore but when in a good position or flanking it’s not even noticeable 90% of the time on the FPS or the XM-1

If you like playing MBTs, then no, the Type 16 is very bad at conventional head on fighting. The M735 APFSDS round it uses is garbage (M735 is from 1978 while the Type 16 is from 2016) unless you’re shooting the side and rear of enemy tanks. The armor is relatively better than other wheeled vehicles, with over 100mm of composite on the front hull, but that won’t save you from anything short of 57mm projectiles, Type 16 side armor is so weak it can get machinegunned to death by .50 cal.
Mobility is good in terms of top speed and reverse speed, but oh god the maneuverability is trash tier. The Type 16 has the turn radius of a battleship (no neutral steering as it is a wheeled vehicle and not a tracked one) and it has terrible acceleration in low gear. Comparatively at the same BR of 9.3, the XM-1 (GM) which is an American MBT from the 1970s uses the same round but has so much better maneuverability while not losing much mobility. The XM-1 has superior power to weight ratio with a 1521 horsepower engine, better armor (especially turret and sides), and better crew layout. The only advantage the Type 16 really has is top speed and gen 3 thermals (XM1 only has gen 1 as it’s from 1970s compared to Gen 3 thermals from 2016).
TLDR: Type 16 is not worth it for a normal MBT enjoyer; unless it’s on sale and you really want to grind out Japan.
