I agree with some of the comments particularly the possibility of screen damage. It seems to me that in short order the entire screen will be a scratched up disaster.
Steven Foster I completely agree. Even though this is my favourite form factor for a foldable, at least with current technology this wouldn’t last too long 😂
I wish folding phones could fold in both directions. I like how the Mate XS can fold into a tablet or duel screen phone, but I also wish it could fold the other way too. That way it could fold with protective surfaces (i.e. not glass!) facing outwards, so that you could put it in you pocket or put it down on a rough surface.
@@anakinfu6329, how does that work? Is the protector harder than the screen so it is bound to crack? Or is it as soft as the screen so that the screen gets scratched anyway? I don't get it. Lol
Abdullah Amir I would just purposefully use my fingernails to draw a smiley face or something and all the other scratches won’t seem like much in comparison! Could also get some sort of soft case to slip it in - similar to those zipper ones for the Nintendo Switch. Issue is it would take so much longer to take the phone out to actually use it.
Not sure about durability, but the phone actually comes with Huawei's own screen protector. There's supposedly also a note that comes with the phone saying to not use any 3rd party screen protectors. If you want to change the protector or if it comes off, you have to go to Huawei to get one of theirs.
This is an experimental concept phone at the best. Out-fold design is just not a practical design until foldable and scratch resistant glass display screens become available.
you are absolutely right. The Galaxy Z Flip is a folding phone. The Galaxy Fold is a phone turning into a tablet-size device, as well as the Huawei Mate XS !
Not sure how I feel about foldable phones. The screens are on the outside and are prone to scratching when put in your pocket ( I am not sure if there are foldable screen protectors) and the bend on these phones eventually break.
Dont't forget that comparing Huawei Mate XS with Galaxy Z Flip makes no sense. The Galaxy Z Flip is a whole new kategory, it's a folding phone. But you can compare the Huawei Mate XS with the GALAXY FOLD. Both are folding Tablets, not really folding phones.
It's miles better than that Nokia brick named the fold. This is the future. This is a killer flagship. Just keep it in your jacket pocket and it will be fine.
I have the galaxy fold and just to let you know the fold screen n hinge have been holding up perfect so far. The mate x cannot get android apps on it. Also only bas 8GB of ram. The fold has 16gb so it's more future proof
A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit by Chinese electronics company Huawei arguing that a 2018 law banning U.S. federal employees from purchasing its products is unconstitutional. My mom was a federal employee. I will not buy this brand.
This foldable doesn’t have google play AND folds outward which gives it a lifespan of the trip it takes to drive it home not to mention it will run 2500 pounds tell me this phone is DOA. Shame this is a few better decisions and google play away from being a really solid device.
I see no reason why you couldnt simply put two "normal" tempered glass protectors and sandwich it together, sure the center of the tablet mode will wear down more but it will serve just fine as a dual screen "normal" phone in the long run if it comes down to it
@happy mass shooting usa haha before you say its FAKE GLASS look for some legit info from samsung it self ! The prob with the foldables is the longevity of the plastic screen which no reviewer is talking about. Moreover this stupid reviewer call this outside folding form factor as better than inside folding samsung.
It actually is in actual use. If you're used to a big phone, the samsung's galaxy fold front screen is very limited. My friend let me use his and I wasn't a fan. Even he said he doesn't really use it in this mode. So really, you're paying for a folding tablet. I would've loved to get the Mate Xs...but after forking out 2.5k for a powerful dual 4k screen laptop, I can't justify paying over 2K for a phone that can be used as a tablet.
@@DSt3alth in a week's time that tiny not so functional outside display of samsung will be more functional than the outward folding fully functional screen of the huawei. How about that?
@happy mass shooting usa yea but that's limited to fingernails and that too when its open unlike this abomination that will get scratched by everything, doesn't matter if it's in your pocket or your hand.
WTF. buying and eating a pie is a 'tech review' ???? are you kidding me? it's ridiculous that you always just use CAMERA with smartphones, especially Huawei's phone. why do you do that? Huawei bribes you to do that ?
Now we need a device that is like the Galaxy Z flip, but which flips outwards like the Mate XS. So the folded version would also have a larger peek display like the Motorola Razr fold. Unfold it to get a massive, tall smartphone experience. Also would be cheaper than the Mate XS.
Interesting to read the comments here. There are lot of Huawei hater. Why watch it if you hate it? How much do u get out from that? I like to get your job.
Or its tech enthusiast's pointing out apparent downsides to this outward folding design. This isn't the first foldable on the market so naturally it won't have that wow factor as the fold did when it was released.
