This one's a bit longer than usual at 30 minutes, and it covers our entire three-day trip to Battambang, Cambodia from Siem Reap in July 2024. It is the first time we have visited Battambang post-Covid, and the last time we were there was July 2019, so five years ago. A lot has changed and we investigate all of it for you! Warning! There’s no bat cave, no bamboo railway, and no circus. We’re riding a Honda PCX 150cc automatic moto. The hotel we stayed in was called Royal Hotel and it’s just behind the central market.

I really enjoyed living in Battambang for 6 months, despite the ripped up roads and mad weather :) Battambang food is fine from street stalls up to eg Vintage comfy- plus great Italian and Indian restos for variety.. And to be clear, the wonderful Phare Ponleau Selpak circus is still here to visit for shows.. just not in this video :) Great you showcased some of the street art from the S'Art festival (a Phare project). Great supermarket/department store is HCL is Heng Chhay Li

Battambang is my dad’s beloved hometown. I took both parents’ ashes back to his village, placed them in our family Chedi at a temple there. It is a most special town. I was there again in March, the roads were not so bad, I don’t understand what happened. BTW, the temples there are much older than the Angkor complex

Thank you for taking us along! I was disappointed to read there is no "bamboo train". We really enjoyed that when we were there before Covid. Also no bat cave? The duck soup looks like an incredible value! In the USA we would pay closer to $20 for duck soup!
I am curious how you book your hotel room? I generally book on an international booking site. On a few trips when in Siem Reap and I have inquired about extending our stay the hotel quoted us a higher price than we would pay by just extending the booking online. Maybe I should have tried to negotiate with them?
Thank you again for sharing your trip with us!

The noodle soups we had were great, and excellent value. We didn't have a hotel booking but being low season, we knew it wouldn't be a problem. We had narrowed our choices to three hotels and Royal Hotel was number one. We looked at the room and asked about the price. I think the locally owned hotels have more flexibility to offer a lower rate. Thank you for watching 😊

Thanks for the vid, was very enjoyable! I was supposed to visit Battambang in 2015. I took the bus from Poipet (crossed the border from TH), then missed my stop because I was conversing with a French girl - we were the only foreigners in the bus. The conductor didn't alert me to the stop and when I realized it, we were already halfway to Pursat (?).
The French girl said that I could either get off at Pursat & ride back to Battambang or continue to ride the bus until Phnom Penh. She said that I could stay at her place in PP (she was an expat in PP). I was fearful to get off at Pursat since it was getting dark (and I was a solo female traveler), so I took up her offer of a place to stay in PP. We arrived in PP at ~11 pm. I explored PP & stayed at her flat for 2 nights, then travelled by bus to Saigon/ HCMC. Fun times.
I didn't get to see Battambang but got to explore PP. From your vid, Battambang reminded me of Mawlamyine city in Myanmar, esp the old design buildings. Cheers!

Thanks through one of your videos we learn about Taphul Road. Enjoyed your visit to Battambang, but with a little personal sadness to see that the center of town is a bit neglected since a went there in 2009. I hope time will bring the cash and will change like Siem Reap. Again Claire, your sens of humour, " I left the volume as it was, so you can get the full experience " excellent👍.

I live in Northeast Thailand and I'm contnually impressed with how Cambodians seem to know how to take care of their cities and make them so much more beautiful and tranquil than anywhere in SE Asia. (it was a flogged out hire scooter from BB).. But definitely do able on a well maintained 110. Scariest thing is being passed by cars and 4wd doing 160 km+ 1 mtr from you on some parts of the hightway. (I have resorted to driving the last few trips. due to lots of hightway driving)

Just watched this for a second time as I've just come back to B'Bang after time away.. YAY in general to be back but oh dear yes, the roads are still awful. Ripping up the surface and leaving it to pothole in rain/dustcloud in the dry is going on and on. Some of the main roads have been half done, nice and smooth then suddenly revert to mess. It gets tiring :) At least one main area down by the river with the naga/rifles statue has been done, and the river area is colourful and nice :) Glad you showed so many of the murals from S'Art Festival (a Phare event). Hope you make it back to B'Bang again. It 's so chill and it grows on ya, despite the roads!

Greetings Claire and Jeremy from Alice Springs…I had to escape Melbourne’s winter for a couple of weeks.
The Battambang street scape at the beginning of your video was awful but your Sunday walk Claire was much more attractive.
In all my visits to Cambodia I only stayed in Battambang twice. The second trip was 2018 with my girlfriend and we did a very good Tuk tuk tour of the local attractions. Both visits I went to a small Angkor Temple out of town…not the one you visited. You certainly realize how attractive Siem Reap is in comparison to Battambang.

While Siem Reap was putting in flood control during COVID, now its Battambangs turn. Two years ago the roads wore good, instantiation of flood control and sewage lines has the roads torn up . Once done everything will be much better. I'm not sure of the projected completion date. I'm very tired of the pot holes and bouncy roads but I understand all will be better.
