- This video covers our three-day trip to Battambang, Cambodia from Siem Reap in July 2024. It is the first time we have visited post-Covid, and the last time we were there was July 2019, so five years ago. A lot has changed and we investigate all of it for you! Warning! There’s no bat cave, no bamboo railway, and no circus. We’re riding a Honda PCX 150cc automatic moto. This one's a bit longer than usual at 30 minutes, and it covers our entire three-day trip to Battambang, Cambodia from Siem Reap in July 2024. Those are like some of the best parts of btb lol.
@@SokhenInwe've done those things before, so this is a bit more about Battambang itself.
I'm curious why you didn't go back sooner? 😇✌️
I really enjoyed living in Battambang for 6 months, despite the ripped up roads and mad weather :) Battambang food is fine from street stalls up to eg Vintage comfy- plus great Italian and Indian restos for variety.. And to be clear, the wonderful Phare Ponleau Selpak circus is still here to visit for shows.. just not in this video :) Great you showcased some of the street art from the S'Art festival (a Phare project). Great supermarket/department store is HCL is Heng Chhay Li
@@ForRiel I was just kidding, seen a million of those videos, always interesting to see new stuff.
I feel like you don't put out enough videos. When they come out, I'm always joyful watching them.
That's very kind, thank you!
Jeremy and Clare , after 10 years of visiting Cambodia , I decided to try living here in Seam Reap for a while , I have a month to month apartment , so I’ll see how it works, I have already bumped into Dave in Cambodia,
Regards, Peter , QLD Mackay ,
Awesome, Peter! I hope it works out for you.
I was born there 65 year ago in Battambang , now I am live in new zealand sine 1981.
Wow, I think it would be almost unrecognisable now! Did you ever go back?
I was born there too, and I was a high school student in 1975 me and my family are going back to visit there later this year. I settled down in Melbourne. I always enjoyed watching your videos, thank you for what you have done.
@@ForRiel I went back there once since 1997.
Oh wow, it will be amazing to go back. I hope you aren't too cold down there in Melbourne. 🥶❄️
the food is still the same.
Battambang is my dad’s beloved hometown. I took both parents’ ashes back to his village, placed them in our family Chedi at a temple there. It is a most special town. I was there again in March, the roads were not so bad, I don’t understand what happened. BTW, the temples there are much older than the Angkor complex
Yes, I think it's very special too. Once the roads are finished it will be even better! Thank you for watching.
I lived in Battambang for ten years. Loved it. A true gem!
Wow, ten years is a lot! Thanks for watching. :)
You must know all the expats there, including that American selling hamburgers!!
why do you say it is a gem? That was not at all my experience. The infrastructure, roads, and garbage situation were awful. Wonderful people though, but I was not at all confortable in Batttambang, what did I miss???
@@kleerogers Seems like you focused on the wrong things. Sorry you felt that way. Battambang is great.
@@kleerogers You might have missed out the only hamburger joint by a Northwestern expat:)
Thanks Jeb and Claire such a enjoyable watch, food, street art, and great music as well. Great way so start a cold Monday morning having a coffee while watching my two favourite people, take care, stay safe.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mummy Bear 🐻🐨
I love Battambang and I can’t wait to get back. It’s so laid back compared to the hustle and bustle of pp and the food seemed to taste better too. Thanks so much for the video it was wonderful!
It really is! 😀
For Riel is among my favorite Cambodia channels on YT.
And you are among our favorite subscriber 😍
I was late to the premiere so I watched the video. Definitely on my list to visit, thank you for sharing your trip!
Thank you for watching. It's lovely to have a place like Battambang only 3 hours away.
Thank you for taking us along! I was disappointed to read there is no "bamboo train". We really enjoyed that when we were there before Covid. Also no bat cave? The duck soup looks like an incredible value! In the USA we would pay closer to $20 for duck soup!
I am curious how you book your hotel room? I generally book on an international booking site. On a few trips when in Siem Reap and I have inquired about extending our stay the hotel quoted us a higher price than we would pay by just extending the booking online. Maybe I should have tried to negotiate with them?
Thank you again for sharing your trip with us!
The noodle soups we had were great, and excellent value. We didn't have a hotel booking but being low season, we knew it wouldn't be a problem. We had narrowed our choices to three hotels and Royal Hotel was number one. We looked at the room and asked about the price. I think the locally owned hotels have more flexibility to offer a lower rate. Thank you for watching 😊
You’re hard core riders🛵. Enjoy the ride!👍
Was a tester run for bigger trips.

Yes I were enjoyed the Battambang tour very much. Thank you Jeremy and Claire.
Glad you enjoyed it😻
Thanks Claire and Jeremy. Lovely trip. Those houses do look like those here in Kampot. I love Pomelo. Not cheap but sweeter than grapefruits I think. Xx
Our pleasure! It's like a huge Kampot old town but nicer.
My next vacation somewhere there I like watching your blog because you explain everything about the places where you both of you vlogging take care until next time
Our pleasure! It's a chilled place to spend a few days exploring.
So nice of Jaan Bai to include a mural homage to Jeremy! 22:00
Thank you for this very nice and timely video of a journey I'm considering doing next month.
Our pleasure! Jeremy is always a-muse-ing......
Bold step, I like it.
Thank you🎉😊
haha
Wow, what a gorgeous town. I live in Northeast Thailand and I'm contnually impressed with how Cambodians seem to know how to take care of their cities and make them so much more beautiful and tranquil than anywhere in SE Asia. That temple with the relief murals towwards the end of the video the way the color green is used on all the wall art, that is just a gorgeous effect! That temple ruin was very interesting too.
It's a lovely little town with a lot going for it. The overall feeling is positive and there are lots of hidden gems to discover. White Elephant Pagoda was a particularly attractive pagoda. I enjoyed visiting it very much. Thank you for watching 😊
🙂❤👍Thank You Jeremy & Clair 🙂❤👍
Thank you for watching! 😻👌
Great short trip to Batt…
Bang!!!! 💥🔥🤯
Very cool experience in BTB
So glad you enjoyed it!
Strange world…. I’m located In Michigan living vicariously through your travel
Crazy. Thanks for joining us this morning :)
Hello Claire & Jeremy. First, seems you've got a nice flat or house in Siem Reap, after moving fromTaphul Road. I hope you still go there on the occasion to Try Me, Madam Moch, or favorite. Thanks through one of your videos we learn about Taphul Road. Enjoyed your visit to Battambang, but with a little personal sadness to see that the center of town is a bit neglected since a went there in 2009. I hope time will bring the cash and will change like Siem Reap. Again Claire, your sens of humour, " I left the volume as it was, so you can get the full experience " excellent👍.
Hello, thanks for watching.
Battambang will be amazing when the new roads are completed. Government needs to get the town heritage listed, so the old buildings can be saved and restored.
Thanks Claire & Jeremy, great work as always! Didn't know that Battambang was bigger than SR... looks really interesting with all the murals. A little painting and roadwork and the city would look at bit brighter, but still some very impressive things about it.
Glad you enjoyed it! When the roads are fixed it will look great 😃👍
Fascinating! So pretty! My new neighbour is Berembang. 😂
When the new road is finished it will be so much better ☺️
@7:00 That’s a taste of Penang, K.L.& Singapore circa ’80! Will have to check out Battambang next time I’m over that neck of the woods..Cheers
Definitely, it's a great little spot to hang out for a few days.
Another great and very interesting video - thank you both
Our pleasure! 😀☺️
Thank you for yet another wonderful video I love to visit SR but right now im freezing in Hobart !!
Thanks 🙏👍
A rainy 27 degree here at the moment.
Very interesting video loved the alleyways with the artwork. Will definitely take more of a look around next time we go there. Thanks for sharing ❤
We really enjoyed the visit! Thanks for watching :) Catch up soon.
For me Battangbam was Salem, Oregon 40 years ago!! Slowest traffic in SEA!!
Yes, and the state of the roads currently is slowing the traffic even more.
I spent almost 10days. The cons were not enough restaurants with English translation and modern supermarket except the pricey Lucky.'
Also most hospitals took only cash or ABA but no credit cards!!
Very cool video - enjoyed the older style looks & seeing the food 👌appreciate showing us around BB - ✌️✔️👍🙏
Glad you enjoyed it. We tried to show other special features of BB not just the usual Tourist attractions.
Long road trip to BTB… have a safe trip…
165 km but really good roads. Only one HolySHIT moment, when an older couple on a moto just turned in front of us without looking 😕😞
Great video, guys! Thanks for posting. Love the music and visuals @ 26:30 ✌🏾
Thanks so much for watching! Much appreciated.
Great informative video as always & love the music as it really sets the scene 😉👌💜
Glad you enjoyed it, 😄😊
Thanx 👍very nice video.

Great ,video thanks For Riel.
Glad you enjoyed it 😁😊
Excellent Battambang tour & bike ride. Thanks for sharing guys. We're going there soon also, gotta get outta Kep/Kampot for a bit. 😃✌
Have fun! It's the time to do it, everything is so green 🍏😄
Welcome to battambang city Thanks you so much for visit in Cambodia 🇰🇭❤️ God bless you 🙏
Thanks so much for watching 😀☺️
We will definitely be back soon.
Nice video, thank you! Just FYI, grapefruit is the hybrid of pomelo and sweet orange.
Thanks for the info! We have had Pomelo before but not grapefruit.
Preah Sihanouk next! 😇✌️
Yes! Very excited to see it for ourselves!
@@ForRielme too! 😊🎉
Have you ever done the boat trip across tonle sap from siem reap to batrambang? I did it many years ago. Fascinating stopping at the villages in the water.
Not yet but that does sound like fun.
Excellent video guys!
Congratulations on your 1k subs 💥🔥🙏
great video battambang looks a great place to visit I also like the length of the video 👍👍
Awesome, thank you! 😄🤠
Love road trips ❤❤❤🎉🎉 thanks for sharing 😃👍👍🇰🇭🙏
Our pleasure! We will be doing many more this year
I stayed at Pomme when I went recently. I loved my time in Battambang. 🥰
We had a beer there, it's a beautiful place for a mini break.
Pomelo is like a sweet grapefruit. My fave fruit here.
We have had Pomelo once a long time ago, need to give it a try again soon.
Definitely delicious in BTB
It really is! 😁 🍜
While Siem Reap was putting in flood control during COVID, now its Battambangs turn. Two years ago the roads wore good, instantiation of flood control and sewage lines has the roads torn up . Once done everything will be much better. I'm not sure of the projected completion date. I'm very tired of the pot holes and bouncy roads but I understand all will be better.
Yes unfortunately it's going to take time but in the end it will be worth it.
oh lord, Balttambang when I lived there last year.. every day a different road torn up :) Messy dusty! Look forward to it being smooth again :)
Great video, nice to see a trip out to a neighboring town, and Battambang is on my list of places to visit, so that's really cool.
You should! We really enjoyed our long weekend there.
Very Cool vid .. I laughed at Claire’s honest take on the river 😂
Well..... It's not the most inviting River 😕
Good morning people.Hv a nice day
Thank you, and you as well!
Was there in 2019 , loved the place, laid back and not many tourists. Bamboo train was going , watched the bata flying out. Went to the football bar except they had no football lol.
We didn't like it the first time we went a few years ago, that's why it shocked us. Loved it this time.
Wow I spent a little time in Battambang and totally loved it was my pick of places in Cambodia
Your the streets are all just dirt a bit strange but gives it charm for sure
It's a great little place and we'll definitely be going back! I think once they have finished upgrading the roads it will be wonderful.
great video guys. long time fan and soon will get back to Cambodia for another contract. looking forward to seeing you guys .
Wonderful! See you when you get here 😊
I first went to Siem Reap in 2013. The footage here is giving me flashbacks.
Yeah it has a totally different feel to present day Siem Reap.
Great video! Loved it 🥰 ir so reminds us of Penang 😁😁😁👍
It does! It's a very pretty place.
I think the road is under construction. Great vids, btw. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Yes! Thank you! We were wondering about that, as most of the roads seemed in the same state.
I havent seen a tube TV for years
We moved rooms on the second night and it had a flat screen TV. The rooms were the same price 😔 just strange they didn't put us in that room first.
🎉
🔥💥🤣😋
you should visit Pailin and go back along the border all the way to Siem reap .
Yes! We considered going that way this time, but we didn't have enough spare days. We wanted to stay overnight in Pailin and then in Poipet.
Battambang is the beutiful province and The number 1 Province to produce rice production in Cambodia to export.
It is beautiful and thanks for the information ☺️
Thanks! The buildings are so old. I wish they would paint.
Hopefully they will do this after the roads are completed 🤔
Thanks to Mr. Sun Chanthol is making the streets' world standards.
Looking forward to it 😸😁
That was a fun video! Enjoyed the longer vid and your takes on the 'Bong! Jeremy looking sharp with that well manicured beard! Never paid attention to the street art there - wonder if it will ever rival the laneways of Melbourne!
Glad you enjoyed it! They could make it like Penang and push the local food and Art scene.
Siem Reap and Battambang provinces are not far from my heart ❤🎉
Two beautiful places to live 😀😍
I travelled to Battambang from Pailin about 25 years ago and it looks like roads have been surfaced and there is more life there these days.
We were looking at a round trip through Pailin and Poipet, but decided to just do Battambang and back.
Enjoyed this vid and the descriptive word you used 'gritty'...I like gritty, shorter than 'old world atmospheric charm' 😁. Have yet to visit and thank you for the vid. ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it! It was Gritty on so many levels 😁
That looked like fun! Since you have a 150cc moto, is it pretty easy to get a license? Do you have a video on the process? Thanks!
That will be out very soon. Not expensive or difficult, just a bit time consuming.
Would this trip be dooable on a regular 110cc Honda Zoomer and what was your average speed. If I remember correctly from my day trips in Goa some 10 years ago anything more than 20km was a lot on a 110cc Scooter. Cudos for posting these informative Videos as I know from living now in Siem Riep how much the heat and humidity can make one feel lethargic.
One person, in good condition, no problem. It would just take longer. We sat between 70 and 80 most of the way, great roads.
Greetings Claire and Jeremy from Alice Springs…I had to escape Melbourne’s winter for a couple of weeks.
The Battambang street scape at the beginning of your video was awful but your Sunday walk Claire was much more attractive.
In all my visits to Cambodia I only stayed in Battambang twice. The second trip was 2018 with my girlfriend and we did a very good Tuk tuk tour of the local attractions. Both visits I went to a small Angkor Temple out of town…not the one you visited. You certainly realize how attractive Siem Reap is in comparison to Battambang.
They are doing up the roads so after that it should be nice. We have visited Battambang before but for some reason we didn't like it the first time.
Hi guys, A group of us rode through there on dirtbikes in early November 2019. We stayed at a fantastic hotel just across the river from the central market call Vimean Sovannaphoum Resort. You should lash out for one night when you're up there sometime. A brilliant little oasis. Happy trails, Stay safe on the roads, Ken B.
We really enjoyed our little hotel room and exploring to find breakfast. As long as it's clean, good air-conditioning and hot water we are very happy.
The roads around the market look pretty much the same as 10 years ago.
Yeah, certainly seemed that way. Not going to be fun for the locals when the big rains come.
@@ForRiel Did you folks have the chance to visit the bat cave and ride the bamboo train?
The best yet.I especially love the last third of the trip. I hope to make Cambodia my home soon. Thank you for all the fascinating and informative posts 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Was a really good get away, will be back.
Hi, I have been at royal hotel, before covid, first angkor wat, here batcave and several big temples, I did not see the rooftop and jacuzzi, maybe that came later, interesting place, first time I discovered, can beer was only 50 cents, I always paid 1 dollar before, haha
Battambang is definitely a fun place to visit 😍😀😁
Finally, you have video of Battambang, great video as always. :)
Hope you enjoyed it! 😊😁
Thank's for a nice video. I've been to Batt a lot over the years, since 2009.
One strange thing about the city was that back in 2018, I couldn't find a single travel agency, where I could extend my one-year Cambodian visa (!).
I mean, in SR and PP, and even Kampot, they're everywhere... But in Batt, no... How odd. 🤔
We didn't really explore much of the other side of the river, but it did seem to be a local economy. Not that many Western restaurants or Bars.
Thank you for the report, I really enjoyed watching your video. 👏😀
I was in BTB last Thursday. It wasn't my first visit and I loved seeing how the city centre changes every time, apart from the roads perhaps... Who's stolen the tarmac???🤔
I've also realised I'm not up to date on my street art spotting - thanks! 😂
Hope you enjoyed it! Battambang did really surprise us how relaxing and enjoyable it was.
Battambang food is fine. Vintage is a comfy place to sit on sofas for dinner :) , Also great Italian and Indian restos. And to be clear, there still certainly is the wonderful Phare Ponleau Selpak circus to visit for shows.. just not in this video :) And if you living there and need to set up, a fabbo department store called Heng Chhay Li :)
We have been to most of the standard tourist attractions, this was more about a get away in Battambang. We had some amazing Indian food for Flavors of India Battambang.....
I used those reverse osmosis water vending machines quite a lot when I was living in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Can’t remember ever seeing one in Siem Reap.
Once I’ve acclimated to the tropical heat and humidity….I find air conditioning to feel very uncomfortable. But many tourists love their air conditioning. I used to love it also when I was younger and didn’t know about acclimatization.
Thank you so much Claire and Jeremy for the wonderful videos. Take care.
Namo Buddhaya, 🙏🏼 ☸️ 🙂 🌴 🦎
We haven't seen any of the Reverse Osmosis machines here either. We lived in Australia for all our lives and we still love air-conditioning, especially to sleep in.
Great to see the lack of street rubbish (why is it so different to other regions ...different council?). Applaud buying hotels direct, let us all do the same and not enrich OTAs (Online Travel Agents) as they don't even pay taxes in the country. Q: are you ever concerned buying food from street vendors? Love how you express joy: "Very nice alleys! ...really impressed with ..." when the Battambang city is Third world.
It's developing nicely. Battambang was very clean and there was plenty of Green space.
Greeting from a Bendigo caravan park cabin, which cost $1300 for 4 night. And isn't any better than your $15 a night room.
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 that's insane!!!
It's disappointing that those three tourist attractions are no longer there. There aren't many other reasons to go otherwise.
The town itself is nice for a visit.
Welcome to battambong City
Thanks it's very pretty 😍😊
Great video thanks! Kinda miss the Newsmoto theme.
No worries! Very Wednesday 😃😄!!!
Welcome to my province 😊❤️🏡
We loved it! 😍
@@ForRiel hope you will come again boss❤️

Next time! We will be back 😄
Bada bing bada boom Battambang .
battam BANG!
Bat tam bang!
Thank you Bong! 😊😀
I have made that trip before. Ankor comfort hotel is $12 to $15 direct to hotel. I think is better hotel. And yes the roads and streets are always like that. It isn't a city wide project. Kind of laughed when you said that. Rented a motobike in battamabang and went to Bour after that. Fun trip. Nice to get out in the country side with the motorbike
We looked at a few more expensive hotels with pools but they seemed a bit run down, will look at that hotel next time. There seemed to be heaps of construction 🏗️🚧 on the drainage when we rode around. This usually hints at major road construction.
@@ForRiel my Khmer financee put me on to it. No pool but nice place right on the river. Ankor Comfort. Also found 0.75 Cappuccino at the coffee place in front of the King Fy hotel. Lots of khmer customers so you know it is good and cheap. VINTAGE WINE BAR is a nice place off of their "pub street" French owner is a little snooty but the staff and his khmer partner was very nice and didn't mind my American boisterous way.( even though my background is french)
Just looking it up, will definitely give it a go next time. We had a nice coffee shop across the road from the Royal and they were $1, very nice.
@@ForRiel non of that is bad. There is also a music venue next to King Fy hotel. It was fun. That and the pizza company was my time in battamabang.
It seems they love their gold paint in Cambodia.
They love Gold 🥇🪙 all around SE Asia 🌏
They are conducting a big transformation of the roads and sidewalks… just like im SR but at a smaller scale. The final result will be nice but the process is loooong as usual 😅 People in Btb have been suffering the dust and dirt for months now, and still waiting.
Yes in Siem Reap during the 38 Roads Project we had to leave for Kampot, as the dust was terrible and unhealthy to live in.
the big round things you mention i think are oranges, very delicious but the size of grapefruit
I think they are pomelos. They are in season right now and have the prettiest pale pink flesh.
Battambang is absolutely horrible! The dust level due to the unfinished roads is horrendous. It's ubiquitous. In your lungs, on your food, on every surface of your hotel room. I planned on staying at least 7 days. I didn't last 24 hours. I never get headaches, but I had a nonstop headache since arriving in Battambang. I left after one day and immediately felt better. Breathing in all the dust 24/7 is hazardous to your health. Feel very sorry for the residents. They have apparently gotten accustomed to it. Not a good thing. The city administrators should be fired. For Riel are lucky they went during the rainy season. Dust levels are lower due to the rain. You can visit during the rainy season, but it's not a viable expat retirement location.
That's exactly why we left SR during the 38 Roads Project. To us it seems they are doing some major drainage work and the roads will follow, but they could still do maintenance on the roads as well.
Nice video
🙏
Thanks 😊👍
I cant believe i saw my math teacher in here 😂 12:43
That's Lucky 😃😄
I am in Battambang the last 6 days. The streets are a nightmare. Very bad
The roads in SR during the 38 Roads project were a nightmare. Battambang roads are a slight inconvenience 😂🤣
You said the night before and all of a sudden the Beatles song popped into my head.
Lucky we didn't see a Yellow Submarine in the river 😂
@@ForRiel if you did you were taking more than happy pizza.
It's the Kingdom of Wonder anything is possible 🎊🔥😁
The road is pretty bad. The city needs a serious makeover if we want to attract more tourists and expats.
I will admit I am basing this question on this one video since I just discovered (and subscribed) to your channel. Expat videos from Vietnam, Thailand and such; the locals are always aware of the camera and come across as interested and friendly. In your video you seem to be ignored. Can you expand on this observation? Also, it seems on the sparsely populated side
We don't put the camera in people's faces because we don't want to invade anyone's space. We do have a lot of interaction with local people, just off camera.
Cambodians are mostly more reserved than other SE Asia countries until they get to know you.
The roads conditions are very bad, since Sok Lu came (The provincial governor) those roads poorly maintain or rebuild, our taxes payments are wasted.
It seems they are doing the drainage, then comes the roads. Build it and they will come......
@@ForRiel They're always doing that, newly built roads then they doing drainages and making the new built roads in worse condition. it seems like they don't have plans at all. People critics about this all the times. trust me, corruptions is the real problems for this country.
