The more I see this duo of wemby and gobert the more I feel like the Spurs should have traded their picks for the 1st and draft Sarr, that duo would have definitely worked I feel. @@OhDuur Jokic is playing this year though. Then there is also Greece which this year has a level of quality and confidence unseen in years. Plus of course Germany, the current world champions. It's going to be an interesting tournament.

Even if Sloukas(Euroleague F4 MVP) and Papapetrou played, we're still not good enough to be in the discussion for a medal. I'll be delighted, if we somehow make it to the QF. Our group is insanely difficult (Canada, Australia, Spain). Instead, i'd put Australia in the mix. Amazing backcourt and maybe Landale and Reath can hold their own!

I think people don't give enough consideration to language and culture cohesion. These guys play so well together because they are in their comfort zone. It's much different that playing in the nba.
Really interesting take. I’ve never considered this before, but it makes sense. I can see how it could be harder for say, a guy from France playing in the US and being out of their element so to speak, even if their talent level is really good it may not translate as well. Also I think there are some amazing basketball players throughout the world on this Olympic stage that just simply don’t “fit” what the NBA is looking for in a player but in their own way are just as talented.
Probablyy some countries can be competitive against USA but thats all. Let's not exaggarate things, the pure depth of team USA is something no other country can compete.

It’s not fair to put any expectations on anybody other than USA. They deserve all the pressure. Victor is going to see double coverage or worse most of the time, meanwhile you can’t double anybody on USA. Not to mention them somehow getting Embiid who will likely get Wemby in foul trouble.
If they double-team Wemby, he and Gobert will cook them with their high-low offense. USA has no answer to this.
Double, triple, what does it matter? Wemby can easily pass over any number of American players, the tallest on our team being five inches shorter, to the open man, or he can just shoot and there is nothing they can do. And then there is Gobert, and if AD is on Wemby then…I guess Embiid on Gobert but again Gobert has size on Embiid and Wemby can get the ball to Gobert if he wants too.
The French team is kryptonite for Steve Kerr’s bag of tricks. Small ball doesn’t work against huge mobile bigs who are allowed to camp in the paint. And we don’t have the bigs big enough to handle Wemby and Gobert. Wemby with reach and speed can start in the paint and contest the corner three if the ball goes there, and he and Gobert can reach the guys like KD and Booker who like the long twos also.
But like the man said in the video, having those guys patrolling the paint means the perimeter defenders can be right up in your face too, go ahead and drive past them and see what it gets you.
This French team is super nasty, they are going to be destroying opponents.

Honestly, it doesn't evolve around Wemby.
France gave its final team, they kept Fournier and De Colo. The only guy who could create offense outside Wemby, it's Strazel, a young 21 yo guard who came from the bench in EuroLeague. Unless this guy blow up during the Olympics, it's gonna be hard to really compete against Team USA.
Honestly, it is all about Wemby and Gobert and the lack of a three second lane rule for the Olympics. Turkey shot 4.2% in the paint. Not 42%, 4.2%. Germany is a top European team, and if Wemby and Gobert had played thirty five minutes Germany would have had under fifty points.
The US team has a lot of talent, much of it well beyond their primes. But they will have to win shooting contested three and long twos, because they are not getting much in the way of dunks and layups, and that is an awfully hard way to win at basketball.
France takes this one, and it will not be too close either.
I thought the same, but look: first 2 games with wemby (friendlies) both were won by around 50pts, then one game without wemby, they lost to the same team they destroyed before

That is underestimating the european style of play which is not based on a unique player's ability for shot creation but is based on moving the ball to find an open shot.
Ball movement doesn’t matter if there is no ability to penetrate the defense.

Wemby is tall but even ANT can easily push him around and the Olympics is more physical than the soft NBA regular season. And Gobert was a liability in the playoffs that’s why they were eliminated.
