New Beta Updates (Adobe Character Animator)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 лип 2024
- We've been putting in literally hundreds of improvements into Character Animator Beta. In this video, we'll walk through a few new features and a couple of improvements to old ones. We'll start with Transcript-Based Lip Sync, a way to add text to your audio file to make character lip sync more accurate. Then we'll show off Smart Replays, a condensed version of triggerable replays that makes them significantly easier to use in the timeline. Next we'll take a look at all the new stuff that has been added to Puppet Maker, including several new styles, faster speed, and a name field. And we'll finish with body tracker improvements like body turns and individual recording tracks. Please let us know what you think - your feedback will help make these features as good as they can possibly be!

Next update, the puppets will control us
updating my app right now!
I feel like I say this a lot, but this is the app that I can't live without, it has made animation a reality for a lot of us, and it just keeps getting more pro with each release! Thank you!
This will be amazing! Characters are what we need the most... and it would be cool if we had the ability to import some of our own assets into the character maker too. And I really believe we need an iPad Pro app too.
I hope so too!
You guys are delivering with every update. I can wait until we can our own character attributes into the puppet maker
The transcript audio function is HUGE . Thank you so much!
Amazing! Ch is going to progress in every update. We are waiting to see record layers organized. Thank you
Nice. Thanks, Dave! Found the transcript option a while ago, and it’s a huge time saver!
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
Big up to the entire team behind this change. Thank you Samurai for always keeping us up to date
Outstanding updates to an already awesome program. Thanks for adding these!
love your dedication to this project, please keep it up
This is amazing! Great work!
This is great! I put in a FR a couple of months ago about transcript based lip sync and it turns out they were working on it already. Can't wait for puppet maker to be finished, it will be a big time saver when trying to generate background characters.
I love the efforts in making the lip sync better. That to me is the biggest headache in post. Thank you!
It would be good if (eventually) the cations creating part of Premiere could be embedded into Character Animator, so its an automatic process of it taking your audio file, creating captions automatically with the timings, then showing you them as a track that you can edit if any of the words are incorrect, and then using that to aid the lipsync. Would save having to jump into Premiere to do that step, seems like it could be done behind the scenes in CA because it's really really good lipsync with the captions assist on!
Once again, great work Dave! (PS Developing content for Puppet Maker was one of my all-time favorite projects. Honored to contribute and hope folks have fun with "Moe"!)
You do an incredible job of explaining sir!
transcripts are huge! Thanks CH team!
Those are some great beta features! Looking forward to try them!
Really great update!!
i am glad of the release of this beta version. it saves a lot of my time to create the puppet
My favorite channel of all time. Thanks for posting!
Thank you !
I can't wait to test it. Thanks for sharing. I hope these changes improve lip sync for my language. I'm a big fan of yours.
Transcript based lip sync 🔥🔥. I think that will make a huge difference. Liojs exciting!
Amazing Dave!!
Fantastic, just fantastic.
Incredible. Phenomenal...what else is there to be said? You guys are awesome. Thanks so much for it all. This even motivated me to learn how to create Closed Captions for my puppets to use in my education program.
hi i really like the direction and the progress that you guys made!the only thing that are missing for me as a comic artist is the ability to draw and use my own characters: i'm talking about getting down to a level of creating specific eyebrows, eye pupils etc, each has its own catagory. i am sure im not the only one who wants that feature. thank you and keep up the great work!
Yep that's coming soon! See the signup section on adobe.com/go/ch_puppetmaker!
I love the transcript based lip sync! The Premiere captions tool should definitely be integrated into Ch one day to streamline the process!
100%!
Wow!! Huge update
Love the continuous development. I need to "hop" back into character animator (like your frog character). My main problem is I stink at illustrating and your character creator is something I need to start leveraging.
omg! i really love the transcript based lipsync update! Please do more lipsync accuracy improvement features! Probably the most important feature of Character Animator by far! Thank you!!!!!
👍 👍 👍 The transcript-based lipsync results look so much more accurate to me than the standard audio-only sync! Ch seems to struggle with picking up “F” and “V” sounds in general, but did a much better job in your example (let's make the opening lines of Fresh Prince the animation equivalent of the “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” exercise.)
Also, as someone who prefers to animate pose-to-pose, Smart Replays should make it so much simpler to capture, edit and blend between them in the timeline.
Transcript with lip sync will be a gamechanger for me. Since I will be writing my scripts with this feature in mind. But dude I forgot Premiere could do closed captions 🤯 your channel is the gift that keeps on giving.
Thank you sensei.
Congrats on the channel launch!
Thanks 🙏🏾
This is so great. I love the Puppet Maker and the Transcript option. I do a lot of work with Descript and can put out a transcript easily. Would love to see more professional puppets and more human looking ones in different styles. We do a lot of elearning and have had limited characters to use in the past from programs like Vyond.
Im very happy about this.
I love this app. and all because of u r tutorials thank you very much sir
I'd really like the ability to change the interpolation when resizing elements, like in Photoshop. I animate a lot of pixel art characters which I need to 10x scale in Photoshop before bringing into character animator. The problem with this is the pixels in Character animator (the 10x10 that make up a now 'giant' pixel for the pixel art) don't line up properly. I've found that elements on seperate layers always have a slight "seam". Being able to work in say a 192x108 size stage, then scaling up x10 with 'Nearest Neighbor" inside of Character Animator would make things line up better, plus if I need to make changes back in photoshop, I wont need to shrink, edit, re-scale, export every time.
Thank you for all your hard work, it's introduced me to a medium I never thought I'd be a part of!
Thank you Samurai sir for all of your help, your videos have been invaluable! I'm still learning how to use Character Animator and Adobe in general, I started a Movie VFX/STUNT channel using character animator, I had to throw my puppets on a green screen background while I learn how to incorporate them into After Effects like your Guitar dude. (Still learnin that tutorial). I was hoping you could give me your thoughts on a few of the videos(4) I've done so far and any tips/critiques on how I could bring them more to life. Also I promise I'm learning how to draw my own character while I use the ones you've built but I was too excited to just get started. Again thank you for all your tutorial videos and the whole team at Character animator for everything!
Great start! The arm movement in the ninja one felt very jumpy/glitchy - maybe it was set to return to rest instead of hold in place? Otherwise I like the concept!
@@okaysamurai First off. THANK YOU for taking the time to watch it. Yeah the ninja character(yours) was motion tracked but it didn't turn out how I wanted. Im working thru all your videos to hone in the performance, and again thank you for all your help. Its been absolutely crucial. 😎
With X-mas coming up, it would be great to see a variety of holiday inspired puppet maker options.
this is by far the best adobe program, thank you to all the developers
Body turns!!! YESSSSS!
Very cool, Dave. I'm excited about Transcript-Based Lip Sync. CA doesn't love my Cajun accent! This is a game changer. Also, I can see how powerful the puppet maker tool will become. Oh, yeah and the body tracking turns! All so exciting... I need to mentally process this. Thanks for the hard work and great explainer videos!
Haha - I'll ask the devs to add "Cajun" to a language dropdown in the future.
@@okaysamurai I'm sure that's top priority over there with you guys at Adobe. Good! : )
I am so pumped for the transcript!!!! Thank you!!! My accent is an absolute pain haha. Smart replays is also a god send! This whole video again is just perfection. I just need a better computer now! Come on apple release the larger iMac already!
Yes! I feel you. Also have the accent problem. This is great 👍
would love to see a waking feature with Body tracking.. great work... better than ever...
I just added the character animator beta app and I AM CHUFFED!!! This is so AMAZING!
PMES,
How did you add the Beta app? I’ve looked and can’t find it anywhere.
Smart replay is a good idea. What I've done in the past, is create a separate scene for a complex action by a character on a transparent background, then drag the scene onto the timeline.
they are really good updates , if we can do facial cap and mocap as independent recording it sounds easy ,and controlling bones not live but with keyframes
0:13 THIS IS HUGE.
i love you guys u are the best, from Africa Zambia
This is awesome! Do you guys have a date when all the new stuff will be on the beta app? I just looked and mine says it is up to date, but I only have the 3 character options.
All of this should be in there now...we're currently on v22.108. Make sure to click "Update" in the CC desktop app to update to the latest.
Wow... That's interesting
One thing i’d *really* like to see is an easier way to livestream using puppets. I followed the other tutorial for live-streaming, but having to have all those extra programs open while i simultaneously am using others during a livestream can be really taxing on the CPU. It’d be nice to have Twitch / UA-cam / OBS compatibility straight from the app!
Agree 100%, this would be awesome. Too many hoops to jump through now.
@@okaysamurai Any streaming updates for Instagram?
amazing, can't wait for this new update... Hey Dave you've seen the puppets that DigitalPuppets guys showed on their channel, can't figure out how they added that 2.5D effect on the puppets head... I understand that the nose flipping was done by headturn behavior but that head turns with face, head and ears moving is that all just parallax effect...?? I've seen your parallax effect explaining video but could you make another video explaining how they've done it...
Ha those guys are wizards and doing things I think I can't quite comprehend! But yes, I believe most of it stems from the same stuff I talk about in the tutorial of a) tagging stuff as head and b) adding an extra face behavior to them. They just seem to take it to the next level and do it for a ton of different parts!
The transcript based lip sync is sooooo much more natural now!
Exciting! thanks for your hard work. ONE QUESTION THOUGH, In the character creator, are there different backgrounds too? or just purely characters? Will there be backgrounds with interchangeable objects, kinda DIY backgrounds? Thanks again Dave!
Yes - all the default characters have at least 3 different background choices! Or once you generate them you could always strip those out and add your own!
Yes! Lets gooo you are the best! Body turns are great! also for mouth tracking music lyrics I will try my australian accent! Thanks man!
isnt it possible to Turn a character Body like character Face turn?
Yep - that's what I'm showing at ua-cam.com/video/iW2oy60Lc1Q/v-deo.html
@@okaysamurai Yeah sir saw that but the foots are stuck there.
You could totally add the feet turning as well, it's just this artist decided not to. The characters Ruby and Nia on adobe.com/go/ch_bodytracker do this.
Hi Dave! I'm trying to have a simple stick type arm that rotates from the shoulder without any bending taking place. I got the arm to move as a simple stick by setting the attach mode to "hinge". I can't however figure out how to turn off stretching for the arm. I just want it to hold its initial shape and size and simply rotate from the specific shoulder point.
The best way to prevent stretching is LimbIK, which has a stretchiness parameter. You may have to add some more tags and turn some other parameters down though to get the bendless arm - but it should work! If it persists, please post a screenshot, video, or File > Export > Puppet (.puppet file) to adobe.com/go/chfeedback for more direct help.
In the transcript Can you write the time codes in CH instead of having to make them on PR? Also is there a way to stretch a single mouth to a certain amount of time?
Example I want my characters “Uh” mouth to last from 00:00:00 - 00:03:00
I don't believe there's currently a way to do this in the transcript, but Ideally if you write "Uhhhhhhhhhhhh" it will figure it out and hold for as long as you say that. Longer, more specific mouths may require more hands on editing in the timeline though.
This updates going to be huge… the lip sync improvements are my favorite. Previous version didn’t look right. Also I like the reduction of jittery or glitchy characters through tracking
This is all fantastic! When will it release for the main version?
Nothing determined/announced yet - basically it all depends on user feedback if we feel like we're ready or not! Several of these we feel are close, so hence the push in the video to make sure we're right!
😍😍
thanks to you, I learn to animate the characters. I have a little problem. how can you create night scenes with a light adjustment system on adobe character animator? thank you
Character does not have a lighting system - for that, I would dynamic link or import your creation into After Effects for more lighting work.
Im very impressed that an adobe team actually connects with the customer, is approachable and asks for (or accepts) a dialog to make the product better. Its very refreshing after being frustrated with apps like AE and PR that seem to be absolute deaf and blind to what the customer says.
These updates are incredible. I'm wondering if there is a plugin in the works for a 3D character export from Maya or preferably Blender or both. It would be great if we could create a model obeying certain rules and then the plugin would export the character rendered at different poses: head turns, body turns, eye tracking and so on. Mind you, this is perfectly possible right now to do manually but it takes a lot of time.
No current plans - currently CH is only 2D focused, but I think some form of 3D will play into the future at some point!
This looks cool. I wonder if the puppets made with the puppet maker will work well with Body Tracking?
All of them except Proteus have body tracking enabled!
Is body tracking available only in beta version
Currently yes. It will eventually release into the shipping version when we think it's ready.
Is there a way to addyour own styles to the puppet maker? like dra a bunch of heads' eyes' mouths etc and add it in?
Yep, coming soon - see the section on adobe.com/go/ch_puppetmaker.
Thanks lot for the great Job you are a saver 🙌!
I have trouble working with beta version do I need to uninstall the Ch animator from my computer to have the beta version?
Nope, both should work simultaneously. Many times CH files will default to opening up the normal version, so you may have to open the beta more directly. If it persists please let us know in the forums!
@@okaysamurai thanks for the reply appreciate 🙏 respect.
For the puppet maker, is it only to use your built in characters, or can we create our own puppets and customizable stuff?
Currently just the built-in ones, but custom is coming soon! See adobe.com/go/ch_puppetmaker for more info.
Hello Dave ! thank you for all your hard work behind this amazing program , lately i ran into an issue where i changed my characters source file location on my hard drive
this caused missing media inside Ch (tried the beta too ) and i couldn't find any button to replace or change or update the footage !
is there any workaround this or my project is now stuck ? thank you
Select the puppet in the project panel. See the blue link on the right? Click that and select your file. Boom.
@@okaysamurai so it's that easy ? thanks dave ! have a great day i can die in peace now :)
Whenever I scale down a puppet I made in puppet maker, I only see the top half. Why can’t I see their full bodies?
Not all puppets are made with full bodies. Characters like Watts or Proteus are only torso up. It's totally up to the character designer what they do or don't include.
hi dave, how do i bring up the new puppet makers and body tracking feature, even though i have updated to version 4.4
Thank you and nice to meet you bro..
This is beta only. See adobe.com/go/ch_puppetmaker for more info.
@@okaysamurai Ok thanks
the biggest problem is that the full body capture is working well for the body, but the framing (Long shot) makes it difficult for camera to capture the eye movements. Is there a way to connect two camera's on the same time, so you can also capture the best eyes movements in a close up
No, but I would recommend doing the face in a separate take for recorded pieces. Arm and record body only, then disarm, then arm & record face only.
Is it possible to use the beta for some of a performance and have the project or a performance open on the regular version? I want to use the transcript feature but finish the rest on the full version if Its possible. Saves so much time.
I don't believe so - if a puppet is made in the beta version, it's in a format the old version won't recognize. However, you won't need to wait much longer for these features to make it into the shipping version. Stay tuned...
It would be great to have an iPad version. And able to incorporate custom assets in the puppet maker
Awesome stuff! For the "Professional" puppet, would you be willing to add a military look and feel (you have nurse, astronaut etc.)? Thanks for these awesome videos!
That would be a nice addition! I think the artist we hired for that puppet is done with it now, but if you want to reach out for custom work this is their page: instagram.com/emmy_and_jon/
Awesome as usual! Is there an official discord server for character animator?
I believe there is one for animated streamers - Ryan Griffin (grifnmore) might be worth asking about for that? Other than that check out r/characteranimator on Reddit!
Can you save smart replay recordings and bring them into future projects?
Yes absolutely! It makes recording dynamic characters a lot easier.
Oh my god, this looks so amazing! I have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription (brand designer here) and never used Character Animator before. But the work they've put into this is extremely impressive and I seriously want to try making stuff with it (if I ever get some free time).
If there's any beginners out there... how difficult is it to use/learn?
Thanks! I hope that if you go through the beginner tutorials on this channel you'll be up and running fairly quickly!
@@okaysamurai Thanks, looking forward to checking them out!
Can you add your own swappable assets to the library?
By default, no - but you can always add them in Photoshop later. Or wait until we fully launch "authoring mode" which will let anyone make their own customizable puppet template!
muito bom
Hi... excuse me... I would like to know what Ch versión is that one? I have the 4.4 2021 but I need the one with BODYTRACKER. THANKS
The latest version is CH 2022, v22.1.1. helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Hi dave, in the timeline section.. How do we eliminate the work area.. Im having problem with that.. I cant export my full vdeo cause theres crtain part of my timeline does not covered by the work area..
*its not work area.. But playhead.. I just can export anything which is inside the playhead.. I tried to drag the playhead but cant.. So for now my problem is that i cant export the whole animation that i did in character animator.. Can u help me on this
Clicking the work area bar toggles it on/off. To make your scene shorter/longer, select the scene in the project panel and change the duration field that shows up in the right properties. If it persists, please post a screenshot or video to adobe.com/go/chfeedback for more direct help.
@@okaysamurai noted, thnx dave
come si attiva il body tracker che non e' presente come si vede nel turoial
Make sure to update to the latest version of CH to get body tracking (v22+).
Is it possible to do full body tracking in adobe character animator 2019 version?
No, body tracking was added last year, so you'll need to update to the latest version to use it.
Are you saying lip sync can happen automatically either from transcript OR facial recognition? Or you do both?
Lip sync can be computed from an audio file + transcript, just an audio file, or live via a microphone.
Can we create our own style options from our own drawings? Thanks a lot.
Soon. See "Can I make my own Puppet Maker templates?" on adobe.com/go/ch_puppetmaker.
can you adjust puppet heights?
Not yet. Definitely something we want in the future is more customization like this - height, weight, eye distance, etc.
can we do ( day to night scene animation ) in character animator please tell me how it will be
Yes, if you faded and moved certain elements I think you would be in good shape. Check out the free "Seasonal backgrounds" puppet for some ideas on adobe.com/go/chexamples
Where to get this ch version that u r using.

when this beta program roll out officially?
No date announced yet, but we hope to launch some of these features soon!
is there a way to contact you ask a bunch of questions?

Hello, I am trying to add the “sad mouth” to my puppet but it’s not lip sinking to the audio track. Is there something I’m missing?
I cover it here: ua-cam.com/video/sc9S65Zn9XQ/v-deo.html. Basically if a sad mouth is triggered and rigged correctly, it will lip sync. If it persists, please post a screenshot, video, or File > Export > Puppet (.puppet file) to adobe.com/go/chfeedback for more direct help.
@@okaysamurai okay, thank you very much I will give it a look!
great update..caint wait to play with it.....But i cannot find the BETA version on my creative cloud desktop...i logged out, and relogg in to see if that works, but didnt...any idea ?? would b very greatful....i m like a kid in front of a toystore....i wanna play ! ;)
See the "How do I join the Beta?" section on adobe.com/go/ch_puppetmaker
Unfortunately our Beta apps are not enabled for China-based customers right now, sorry!
@@CoSA_DaveS but i use vpn...and last year i could get the beta version ....something changed?
As regards the transcript-based lip sync, when the character is talking slow, it looks more accurate, but when the talk speeds up, there may be too many visemes crowded in there. When I'm editing visemes, I am very particular to indicate where the consonants pop, but the subtler consonants and vowels seem to run together when one is talking fast, and the overall expression takes precedence. For example, at 2:52 of your demo, when you are speaking rapidly, “you should see that the one on the right is more accurate”, I think the visemes should read, “W-Oo Ee [you should see] L W-Oo Uh [that the one on] L R Aa S [the right is] M R Aa R Aa S [more accurate]. If you spoke that line more slowly, then you would use more visemes.
In a nutshell: for slow speech, use more visemes. Fast speech requires less visemes.
Note at 2:52 I'm fast-forwarding through the video, so it's showing pre-recorded data faster than usual, not trying to match my words.
@@okaysamuraiOk, thanks! I look forward to trying out the beta version. 🙂
I really love char animator it's just sad i can't get it on it's own.. nice features tho!
Unfortunately I can no longer use the beta; once you guys updated, cause I have Mojave 🥺. Is there a way around this?
Unfortunately no - the Beta requires an updated OS to work. This is not a decision we take lightly, but at a certain point it's impossible to get things working as expected on all legacy systems.
