- Motion Library allows you to easily add premade animated motions like fighting, dancing, and running to your characters. Choose from a collection of over 350 motions (courtesy of Mixamo) and watch your puppets come to life in new and exciting ways! In this video we’ll walk through the basics of how the new behavior works, how to record and blend multiple moves together, and how to rig your own puppets.

Shut the front door. This is amazing. Great stuff David. 350 animations! That’s crazy. What a great job you and the dev team are doing. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thank you so much for bringing this in David. We can finally do an easier front facing walk now, amongst hundreds of other motions. You guys are awesome. Thank You
This is SOOOOOOO good.
I cannot wait to start delving into all of the animations.
My character is going to be exhausted once I've finished making him do weird stuff!
Another game changer! WE appreciate Adobe's ongoing efforts to improve this app! So much fun!
Oh my...... must try everyone of the 350 motions on my characters! This has set my mind on FIRE! Thank you CA team!
Character Animator just gets more and more amazing. Thank you for the fantastic training vids!
This software is making huge leaps forward, and is making the pilot to my series possible! Thanks Dave and devs!
This is a game changer. Really love the motion library. Can't wait to see what this team bring on table in future.
This is actually so exciting! Every time you guys release new ideas they are honestly so amazing. Can't wait to test this out!
I'm using Character Animator for my channel and is getting better and better every time. Thank you all for the great work! 😀
This is amazing! I'm tinkering on the beta right now, and it's amazing what my puppet can do now. Thank you, Okay Samurai!
I am so excited! This has made my day! Thank you Dave for another great video. I appreciate all the hard work that you and the rest of the team there do to make this such a great product!
The fact you glossed over that their is finally a front walk shows how crazy of an add this is haha.
Ha yes, that has been such a longtime request...glad to finally have a solution in there.
(edited because my spelling is atrocious before i've had caffeine)
Dave, I just wanted to give you a huge shout out for going well beyond just providing some simple tutorials... I played and replayed a ton of your vids (among some others) before I even cracked CA open and am hopping into it new, but prepared.
I've been a keyframer since the old Macromedia Flash 3 days (I think Photoshop was in v 4 back then).
Character animation has always been tough (though rewarding, the TIME spent, omg), but mainly lip-synching! That alone probably doubled my dev time.
Thank you for all of these great videos, and an extra special thank you for providing blank templates and characters on your site to break down and examine! I've had Character Animator installed forever, but just never cracked it open... bad on me and my lack of curiosity, but now I'm in and I can't believe I've been missing out.
Seriously fam, this software has me incredibly stoked, and your instructionals and templates are perfect for sinking into the application.
Respect and thank you!
I dreamed about this a year ago. That is fantastic work, every updates are just better than the last one! It's now the perfect software for vtubers, well done!
thank you samurai for your dedication on this software.. you are amazing..
This is incredible! What an AMAZING addition!
Another stellar video! Can't wait to try out the motion library!
Wow, this team never stops giving, 👏👏
Awesome! Ch just gets better and better!
Another great demo, Dave! Great to see "Mo" getting "mo" Ch love with this new feature!
This is amazing! It's a feature I never knew I needed! Gotta go play with this!
Wow! So cool to see the miximo library in character animator!
Hi! I want to say that those 350 animations are just
WOW, but I have some points which would
dramatically improve this feature in a practical manner:
1. The possibility to change, adapt or personalize the pre-made animation (ex: to change only the left arm position during the dance animation or to change the position of both legs during the idle animation).
2. Saving you own animation (creating a pre-made animation by your own) so you can use it across multiple projects and puppets.
3. Will the developers add more and more animations (during time, of course)? A household activities category would be also super useful.
4. The posibility of importing animations made by community members would add so much diversity and complexity to this system. It would be super useful if someone can use my eating animation and for me to import and use a sleeping animation made by another member.
5. I saw that the animations are a little bit laggy. It it because of the beta version of Character Animatior?
Thanks for the feedback! Will pass on to the team.
@Rares Molnar I totally agreed with you, it’s the lip sync that was dragging. Even if that was actually a 1:1 of what his lips were doing, I guess the animation would need to be slipped a side. Also the frog standing and breathing was kinda weak. That’s a great idea of them perhaps dedicating a server archive to using other users actions. However, they’d have to be more cartoony and exaggerated. For example the frog should have been shuffling around, folding/unfolding his arms- he was breathing to heavily, and if that was “panting”, the stomach should have been rising and falling, he should have been moving his body up and down elastically to his breath, etc.
Cheers
Outstanding!!! Bravo!!! Your team have excelled and I can tell you've all been working hard to introduce such fabulous features for us to use!!! Can't wait to try it out...Million Thank you's
This is AMAZING! Can't wait to use it!!! I feel like I need to go back and REANIMATE some characters now! LOL
Love it! So much fun!! Can't wait to get stuck in.
this ups the bar for everybody. we are all going to have to be making some amaing stuff to ever try and stand out. but thats good. this will be amazing. your videos make it all doable.thanks
Wow! That one be an epic upgrade! I love it.
that's an amazing feature! TY!
You are absolutely on the right track. 👍
Awesome! Reminds me of one of my favs software from my childhood, Microsoft 3D Movie Maker. They had similar preset animations for characters, which made it easier & fun to make animated cartoons. Keep up the great work! :)
example of what it looked like: payload.cargocollective.com/1/5/166870/2368430/3d-movie-maker_screen8.jpg
Definitely gonna have to try this out for the 2nd episode of my animated show!
This is awesome. The first thing I could see myself wishing for is to be able to add user motions to the library.
Yep, we're hearing that as a common request. Thanks for the feedback!
Can’t wait to take it for a test drive!
Thank you so much ! I love your work and clear explanations
Another game changer! I love learning animation alongside the development of the program.
My comment feels like spam but I’m being genuine haha! 😂💕
This changes everything. The longest part of animating anything is making the motions with the handles. If there’s a library of basic to advanced movements … you just dropped days worth of animation time down to minutes!!!
Yes! This is amazing and so easy to use
Wow and amazing!. One comment is when motion changes, and so the voice. For example, if you're talking while dancing, your voice will also change. So you can add voice tweaking too.
Yooo this is a GAME CHANGER. Love it!
This looks pretty interesting! Want to try it with my own characters now.
Oh man, this is so amazing! Just days too late for my 48 Hour film comp I just did last weekend, haha. I had a 5 puppet dance scene too, so this would have been amazing! I checked for updates like 20 times in the weekend and it didn't show up while I was animating 😭 So excited about using this for future projects tohugh!
Wow you really covered my point in my last comment ☺️ thanks Dave
Very very cool Dave, one thing/suggestion to add finger control to grab pick up objects/items doesn't need to be motion tracked by any means. Maybe magnetic trigger to an item that the perspective of fingers looks like it is around items or something similar
That would be really cool. Yeah, right now I usually engage in trigger trickery when manipulating objects, where "holding" the object is just another hand position. But more automatic stuff like this could be great!
This looks amazing!
FYI you have to go into rig mode and add the motion library as a behavior in the Properties on the right..
I am melting watching this, wow
great, happy to give it a try
The next level of this would be the ability to rotoscope motion from video sources and translate it over the character.
This is so amazing, I love it. I have my puppet dancing all over the place. Thank you. My only question is. I have the puppet set up in five views and it keeps defaulting to right profile. I can't seem to switch any of the animations to a quarter profile view
So multi-view characters should change views automatically with the different motions. For example, I added motion library to the Ninja character from the homescreen and she seems to turn left/right depending on the motion. If the problem persists, please upload a screenshot, video, or your File > Export > Puppet file to the official forums at adobe.com/go/chfeedback so we can take a closer look.
Adobe Ch is totally the best. Really changed my lfie and the only reason I subscribed to Adobe cc
Woow, really perfect behavior, ... next one could be 2D perspective from mocap motions :D ... good job
Thank you so much for this.
WOW!! You guys have been busy haha. SO cool.
Hello Dave I was actually looking into animation programs and this one is great. One question Will there be a motion where the character will be gaming like playing on a controller or keyboard and mouse?
Check out Alex on pages.adobe.com/character/en/puppets - he has a game controller. Usually people set these up as little cycle layers or reply animations.
Love this new feature!! Thanks for the demo. Can we add our own animations?? If so, what animation programs are accepted??
For v1 it will only be the built in library of 350+, but adding custom animations for the future is a common request we're hearing!
@@okaysamurai thank you for the response. It is great to hear that may be an upcoming option.
Omg this is amazing!
This is amazing 🤩
Ah, this excites me and my co-workers to no end at the church where we work!!!
WOW THANKS AGAIN!!!
Just In time for an animated music video I'm half way done with. And it needs a dancing mutant. Thanks!
If we can help even one mutant dance, it'll be worth it.
Amazing!
Great videos! Thank you! Do you recommend any good places to get clipart, backgrounds, etc besides adobe stock?
I have seen a lot more people using AI tools like DallE and Midjourney to render these kind of things. We also have some free resources at adobe.com/go/chresources.
@@okaysamurai thank you!
Awesome...could you briefly explain how you would have a character walk on stage from stage right and stop at particular location--i.e., talent walks on stage and stop half way in to explain some bullet points...I have been trying a treadmill for walk motion and using the transform panel to move them on and stop...thanks
For this you would probably want to set it to Continuous style and use Transform > Position X to change the starting position to something off screen, and then press "Record one Motion" to have the character walk in. When the walk bar stops in the timeline, the character will stand still. If the problem persists, please upload a screenshot, video, or your File > Export > Puppet file to the official forums at adobe.com/go/chfeedback so we can take a closer look.
@@okaysamurai Perfect, just tried it and works like a charm...adjusted the walk motion duration and x starting position so that the 'talent' hits the 'mark'. Many thanks!
Hi Dave, thanks again for the great vid. The Beta is awesome! One question, I recorded an animation using the motion library in CH, but when I import the CH file into AE, the recording doesn't show any of motion library ? Is it bc it's still in Beta? Or maybe something im doing? Thanks again!
Yes, for beta products you need other beta products to work. So if you download the AE Beta, it should connect as expected!
@@okaysamurai Got it, thanks so much!
Dave, do you have any recommendations for or would you consider a tutorial on the best way to photograph a (live) puppet to be used in Adobe Character Animator? Particularly, what approach would you use for (camera) angles, lighting, etc.?
Here's the process I've used before: ua-cam.com/video/thDlCEuLzuY/v-deo.html
@@okaysamurai THANK YOU!
Here's a question... It looks like the motion library option of 'record one motion' saves the information for its own parameters, but it doesn't save on any changes made in Limb IK. This means that the result of 'record one motion' looks different in play back because any changes the Limb IK information is gone. Am I missing something?
I've tried disabling the tracking for the elbows and knees in the motion library to see if that helps, but the 'record one motion' only seems to be saving parameters directly under its purview. I can modify the 'record one motion' afterwards for things like swap sets, but I'm stumped when it comes to getting it to keep the limb IK info.
Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks again for pushing these cool features out there. Character animator is full of potential.
So what you'll need to do is keyframe the parts of Limb IK that you want to change (click the stopwatch icon next to the relevant parameter). That way any changes you make will be saved in the timeline with a new keyframe.
@@okaysamurai Thank you, Dave! Next time I will see what I can do with keyframes... I worked around it by simply keeping the limb IK and body strength at one setting and making sure I only chose motions were good with those set parameters for every 'record one motion' take. Since things like Limb IK and body strength aren't under the motion library dropdown, can we assume the full release of motion library will also require keyframe workarounds to keep those parameters after clicking on 'record one motion'?
Again, thanks for you videos. You continually keep me motivated to get back into character animator.
Yes - as much as I'd love for everything to be under one behavior, in reality all these behaviors serve distinct purposes and have to work together. So yes, the shipping release should be pretty similar to the latest beta updates, give or take a few bug fixes!
@@okaysamurai Understood! I need to brush up on my keyframes skills anyway. 😄
HOLY MOLY!! 😲
Can't Wait for this update.. when it will release?
Very, very soon. Stay tuned.
I loved it
love it
good dave keep going
Thank you so much . Unfortunately, it did not work after installing the beta version! Is it offered for the original version?
Motion Library is only in Beta currently and will make it into the full release before the end of the year (we hope). But the beta should be working - if it isn't, please let us know in the official forum post so we can help: community.adobe.com/t5/character-animator-beta-discussions/feature-focus-motion-library/td-p/13127563
awesome
Can we edit these premade animations? Like does the timeline show the handles movements and stuff for us to tweak?
You can edit them like I show with the different parameters on the right, but the only thing you can edit in the timeline is the blending in and out. If you want to tweak a particular part, I'd probably recommend to uncheck the tracked handles for the parts you want to manually control (like what I show in the video of unchecking the head and neck stuff to take control of it).
Hi Dave, this is a killing feature! Just a question: is it possible to add to the motion library custom motions? Thanks for your work and go on! Greetings from Italy.
Not for V1, but that's the #1 request we've heard.
@@okaysamurai If custom motions are added, it’d be amazeballz if they were sharable. Keep up the good work!
Edit: I can’t believe I said “amazeballz;” however, I’m not changing it because it’ll be a great reminder for me to not comment on videos before I’ve completely woken up.
I can't seem to make replays to smoothly transition (ease in) if they are put in a swap-set.
What can I do to fix that?
Easing from a motion library clip into a non-motion library clip currently causes some choppiness. We recommend blending between different motions for best results. If you doing that and still seeing issues, please post on the beta forum thread what is happening (a video would be ideal!) and we can take a closer look: community.adobe.com/t5/character-animator-beta-discussions/feature-focus-motion-library/td-p/13127563.
I wish i could pay for only this app from CC instead of paying for the full suite i wont use
How you doing dave just wondering if the new imac m1 chip best for adobe after effects, premium pro and charter animation 8gb before I get one or what you prefer without any problem
I got the M1 with 32gb memory. If you're dealing with CH/AE/PR, the more memory the better.
Ok thanks alot
My except video on Pickett’s Charge using Character Animator went over 50k views yesterday after just over 2 months!
Except from my full video on the Battle of Gettysburg
Cool now I can do dance parties, with my digital friends.
I just installed beta v23.0 build 15, though, I don’t see the motions library. Am I missing something?
I've seen a few reports of people not being able to access it yet - I just checked Beta 23 v15 and I'm seeing it over here in my behaviors list if I click to add them in Rig mode. Check back in a couple of days; hopefully it will be fixed by then. If not, please let us know in the beta forums: community.adobe.com/t5/character-animator-beta-discussions/feature-focus-motion-library/td-p/13127563
Ouais !
Please help! Can't find Motion library on behavior properties right now I'm using Adobe Character 2022.Thanks!
Motion Library was just added last month, so it's only in the latest version, 2023.
Thank you so much!
i have on idea for next version that ll change everything how can i propose it?
Best place to post is the official forums: adobe.com/go/chfeedback
@10:00 the dude is kicking his own butt 😂
Is cartoon animator easy for a newbie or better to learn adobe character animator for making short educational videos?
I haven't used Cartoon Animator so I don't know anything about it, but Character Animator is very user friendly (especially Starter mode).
I need to learn about back walk cycle help me.
Check out ua-cam.com/video/4UWy3STIVpw/v-deo.html for using Motion Library to make front/back walk styles.
when will this feature be available to use?
In Beta now, hoping to put in the full release by the end of the year.
I just fainted! 😱
what are the requirements for new update Character Animator Beta, I keep getting an "update failed". My computer MacOS Catalina 10.15.7; (Mid 2012); processor: 2 x 3.46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon; 64 GB 1333 MHz DDR3; AMD Radeon HD 7950 3 GB
The latest Ch Beta 23.0 has updated OS system requirements: macOS 11 or later; Windows 10 20H2 or later. Same for other Adobe video/audio apps for version 23.0 (Premiere, After Effects, etc).
i dont have the Motion Library, please put a link to download
Download the latest version of CH here: www.adobe.com/products/character-animator.html
Terrific! Except in my beta app - can't find the motion library behavior anywhere! Not in the root puppet behaviors to add it, and it doesn't appear automatically in the behavior panel. I'm using the beta app. What am I doing wrong?
Are you sure you have the latest Beta build? On the CC Desktop app in the Updates tab click "Check for Updates" and make sure you have the latest and greatest!
You’re probably using the previous Beta version.
you didn't said how to add motion library to our own puppets ? [ body and limb ik behaviors must be on the same layer ] this is the error message which i got when i add motion library? how to fix this ?
This video goes more into depth about Motion Library: ua-cam.com/video/ZTevkEadskk/v-deo.htmlsi=HxpLjeZjEbRlgs3w
Dave when can we expect this update to be released?
In the full app, we're hoping by the end of the year - most likely sooner.
Waiting for it. Have my own drawn character fully rigged to apply motion library ❣
I'm considering changing to Character Animator from Vyond. Is there a tool to easily create and change characters, specifically clothing? I do a lot of training videos and most times the client requires the characters to be dressed differently for multiple situations, like a doctor teaching versus meeting a patient.
Most people would do this in Photoshop or Illustrator, so if you're familiar with those programs that would be pretty straightforward. Otherwise you could check out Puppet Maker, which usually has a bunch of premade clothing options.
@@okaysamurai thanks. Yes I’m very familiar with both. Just want to be able to have a large library/wide variety of clothing and character options. I don’t want to have to have to draw original content which is not feasible for most project time frames.
@@okaysamurai I’m going through your tutorials now. They are answering a lot of my questions. Thanks
Can you make a puppet walk by ps or ai
Yes. Check out the examples here: ua-cam.com/video/hK-DjtiPzRs/v-deo.html
I went to the puppet window and added Motion Library, because it wasn't showing up as shown in this video. Now I can add motion in the timeline, but the puppet ignores it. I see a message on the screen that says "motion library: body and limb ik behaviors must be on the same layer" and I'm wondering what I'm missing. In the video, the Motion Library is just available, so maybe I am not adding it the right way?
This is what I mention at 14:35 - Body, Limb IK, and Motion Library should all be at the same level - ideally the root of the puppet if this is your own custom one. If not, try downloading the examples characters from adobe.com/go/ch_motionlibrary (the ones on the homescreen and elsewhere on the web aren't rigged for this yet).
@@okaysamurai I was trying to use some puppet maker puppets with the motion library...
Oh my god
