This speech kills me. Hobi and Jin don't cry often and when they do, you know that it's serious. I feel like ARMY who were watching this live knew that something happened the moment Hobi got so emotional he couldn't speak. It's not like they're normally ungrateful or emotionless during these speeches, but it's not usually to this extent. I'm not sure if this was the first time they spoke publically about nearly disbanding that year, but I think it might have been. It definitely hit them so hard to recieve this award after such a bad year.

I mean the way they reacted reminded me to the 2016 mama speech, so this must have been a huge deal to them. And when I read the translation of what jin said I understood immediately :'(

But i never knew that bts, the reason for my happiness, were suffering a lot those 2 years. I should've taken a hint with their release of the love yourself: tear album which is a very dark concept...it was so ironic that in 2019-2020, in bwl era, it was bts' peak happiness, while for me, it was absolutely THE worst years of my life to the point that i am SO SO glad that quarantine started. There’s a reason BTS has one of the most loyal, adoring and fiercely protective fandoms. They are equally devoted to their fans. They acknowledge the love and support they receive from their fans every time they get a chance to speak publicly. A lot of artists thank their fans but mostly it’s a closing statement or as an afterthought - no other artist or band puts the entire focus on their fans. No other artist or bands bares themselves so much to their fans. There’s nothing rehearsed or constructed to please anyone. And you are right - there is a honest mix of humility, vulnerability and incredulity in their acceptance speeches. Despite them being the biggest band today, they are almost always honestly surprised at receiving a major award. And hence their sense of gratitude is believable and makes them all the more endearing. I have been consistently falling in love with them since I started following them. What started as appreciation of their immense skill and craft has slowly turned into absolute love for who they are as people.

BTS at this point were in territory that no other Korean or foreign artist had ever been in so they only had each other with nobody else to follow or seek advice from. They were worried that this would be their peak, having sold out converts worldwide and broken into the American music scene. They as artists, were stressed about how far they could go and whether or not they should stop whilst they were ahead. Thankfully, they decided to continue on as BTS and continue to make and break records with ARMY right behind them 💜

Jin doesn't show his vulnerable side often, but when he does open up or break down, it's in such a controlled way. He's so eloquent even when he's super emotional. He doesn't do the whole "serious sentimental speech" thing often, but when he does, he makes a POINT, and he makes sure you remember. a good example of this would be the time he called out chart manipulation on stage while receiving an award.

RM then also added that he recived the advice of: "even if RM fails, that doesn't mean Kim Namjoon failed" and then they had a conversation about that and how scared they are to fail as a perfermers.
They also talked as a group how their growth in 2017/18 was actually really scary for them and how lost they felt because they have realized the dreams they didnt even dare to dream and then they didnt know what else they could work towards.

As someone who has a soft corner for Taehyung (V), all I can tell you is that the guy is a gem. He is extremely sensitive and values small things a lot. Among all of them, I feel that fame has impacted him the most, because unlike other members he didn't plan to be in a band or famous, it was by accident but he has worked very hard to prove time and again that he deserves to be loved. He has suffered through a lot of loss(close family members) and I feel that the pressure of idol life has impacted his mental health. He is perhaps if not The most, One of The Most Honest Kpop idols. He is a free spirit and hates to be tamed. He is "This is me, take it or leave it" kind of guy but is EXTREMELY vulnerable when it comes to his loved ones. All that matters to him is his family, band members, friends and his dedicated fans. Shallow things like fame have never been his priority and this comes from a person who has never really followed or rather trusted a celebrity enough to support them. All I can assure is that he is unique, talented, honest and untainted from the dust of stardom.

"This comes from a person who has never really followed or rather trusted enough a celebrity to support them." That line couldn't explain me more. Personality may be the most important thing for me while supporting a celebrity, hence why I've never been a fan of any actor, singer or any other celeb in my life until I came across Taehyung. The thing is, in the first video I watched about BTS, Taehyung didn't even say a word while the others were actively talking, he was completely silent. But somehow he spoke to me a lot with that behaviour, I really saw myself in him. Apart from that, as you said he is just SO REAL, ofc I don't know him in personal but I can feel his honesty in my bones. It is kinda terrifying to feel this much connected with someone I've never seen in real life but I really feel like I can understand him a lot altough he seems to be the most mysterious one. I never thought I could write paragraphs about a celebrity but here we are, he makes me do all these lol. I really love Taehyung, that's all I can say.

V was the most affected when Jin mentioned about them thought about disbanding coz V always say that he can’t live without the members and that BTS will stay forever. So I guess, realizing again about disbanding BTS really hits him hard. Even after the awards night when they were thanking the ARMYs for the awards they received, Jungkook was still consoling him coz he was still very emotional and still crying. V really couldn’t even think of living a life without his BTS brothers.
BTS are the most genuine, grateful, respectful and humble superstars living today or may even be the only ones ever existed that’s why us ARMYs are very loyal, overly protective, beyond supportive and loves BTS unconditionally. BTS is the best! There’s nothing like BTS! BTSxARMYs forever!
Also, almost all the idols that night were tearing up because most of them looks up to BTS and seeing the emotions and hearing every member said hits them as well.

I think while for many people V is hard to read, the genuine truth is - he usually wears his heart on his sleeves. Id say that if he is not in the mood, he is not gonna engage at all, if he is in the mood he will be very visible and present. I think many people forget that BTS has a horrid schedule , many times with just a few hours of sleep on stage , interview or Run episodes...so of course on sb like V or even Suga (tho he is generally more quiet so it will be less of a contrast), you will be easily able to spot if they are just not in the mood for filiming, since they are generally no BS kinda ppl...they will be quiet, less invovled and generally not present. ON the other hand if V is in the mood to film,or has something to say...you will know XD I d say his myteriosness actually mostly stems from his unpredictability caused by being too real, he is the type to start palying with a cat in the middle of a shoot, coz he wants to...he is very free spirited, and from what we were told he was also very rebellious as a youngster in BTS.

Taehyung is quite a sensitive person to be fair. I don’t think he’s super good at pretending, and when he’s moved, he just shows it. This one time, in a show called Bon Voyage, they read letters to each other. It was a pretty emotional moment, and the most emotional members did a good job at keeping it together, but Tae ended up crying while reading his letter to Jimin.
He also once mentioned that he cried for 10 minutes after getting a text from Yoongi (suga) telling him he loved him. He seems like someone who’s pretty in touch with his emotions :)

Taehyung/V is super sensitive as a person. If you remember, when he and Jin fought, he was crying when they were resolving the issue.
And for a little personal information, Taehyung is a big family type of person, he always said his band mates are his family, so imagine them thinking about breaking up, might feel like his family falling apart. V went through some real rough time with his grand parents death. So any idea of losing a family in any way might feel like a horrible thing for him.
V is very social person, he loves to hang out with his friends, go out with his family, plan small vacation with BTS members, he plays games with ARMY, spend hours talking to ARMYs in social media.
He is hard to read, because his personality does not come off strong, there are small pieces here and there, you have to gather them to understand him.

Taehyung could not stop crying after their speech too. They do backstage interviews of artists after they receive daesang & even then he was still openly sobbing. The mere thought of them disbanding made him (all of the members honestly) cry so much.
To truly understand these speeches you'd need to know all that happened to them during those years. Yes, the hard work as you mentioned a few times, would have been overwhelming, but it was far more than that. The pressure didn't just come from their new responsibilities to their status but also from the constant barrage of attacks they suffered during that time (and still to this day tbh).
2015-2018 were the worst for them in this regard. The hate they were subjected to is indescribable & came at them from all sides. It was this that made ARMY so protective & our bond with our Tannies so unique & strong. It had to in order to survive.
I'm so happy they were able to work through all that horribleness & mentally exhausting times together until they were able to find stability & happiness again as a group. Even without knowing the specifics, ARMY saw this shift in them. On stage & off. Like they had finally found themselves & had settled into their true selves. It showed in their performances & behind scenes interactions. It was wonderful to see.
I hope going forward they continue to hold onto each other & ARMY.

What you were saying about SUGA reminded me about what he wrote in letter to ARMY around 2015:
"My father said to take a look around you when there's something to be happy about. Be calm and make rationale decisions when happy. Every minute I'm happy, I acted as if I'm not. When I'm sad I acted as if I'm not. Even if I like it, I acted as if I don't like it. I pretended to be cold-hearted and pretended to be strong. If a joy is shared, it will be doubled but if a sadness is shared, it won't get smaller. That's what I thought. I know I'm a person who's bad at expressing my emotions but I've been living that way and I thought it's right."
I don't think in 2018 he thought the same way, but he is actually very emotional. It's just he tries not to show it. If he cries, he will try to cry somewhere where he is not seen. That's why music was always his way of therapy and helped him to release emotions. He said other members reached him it's okay to feel and express feelings. Nowadays he is definitely expressing his feelings easier, he is a lot happier now

that's just how it is, because he's literally their (and our) moodmaker and tries very hard to always put on a happy face for the fans and I feel like the boys are extremely attuned to his moods specifically...
jungkook even said he was in a happy mood before going up on stage that day, but the moment he saw jhope cry he "synced with him" and immediately started crying too... it just hurts a little more when it's hobi breaking down because we don't usually see him like that...

Yeah, their song TEAR was going to be their last. It's a song about how they felt towards eachother and their mental conflict that occurred as they discussed disbanding. If you take a closer look at the lyrics and pronunciation, you'll find it. Suga said "tear" as in the tear in paper or to tear a heart. There is to tear, tear as in crying, and fear as in fear of the unknown. It's a beautiful song and I think you would actually love it and the meanings behind it

Now imagine it's reversed and Korean market and recognition there is the current American music industry. Do you think those American singers would not care about achievements outside of their own small country ? Singing in a language that is very, very far from the language they sing in that huge country overseas, with the biggest music industry in the world ? It is a VERY important thing for a band that started in a garage from nothing, without money for promotion, coming from a very small country on the other side of the planet, that doesn't speak English on top of that. So in short, achievements in the US ARE a measure of big success for artists from the outside of America (not only Korea), especially if it's some small Asian country. No one knew they were thinking of disbanding. This was one of the biggest years for BTS as they were steadily growing in popularity world wide. They proved they weren't just seeking western validation (many accused them of having no pride in being Korean) by releasing Idol and having some showstopping year end performances. 2018 was the end of the love yourself era which was the time frame where BTS really set themselves apart from the rest. They did their first BBMA performance with Fake Love and really started making steps not only as kpop idols but just Asian artists. They had a lot of eyes on them, a lot of expectations. In their movies and documentaries they talk about how it's scary to assume they'll be successful, to rent bigger venues and expect all the seats to be filled. I could see how the pressure of it all could get to be too much too quickly. I'm glad they have each other and were able to stay together even in tough times

Taehyung has been very genuine and real with us, about his emotions, feelings or his opinions and thoughts. I always look at taehyung as someone who knows what he wants, and nothing would stop him from doing them. Suga too, yes youre right. Suga often only speaks when he thinks necessary. Whatever he said just felt real. Same goes to his music. I would say his personality is reflected in his work ethics of making music, and as fans, i can also sense that when consuming his music. Jin is the sweetest, true, and very emphatic. we rarely see that side of Jin but it wasnt really surprising for armys who knows what kind of person he is. 2017-2018 was difficult for bts and armys. We felt it too. But who knows what goes through the members' minds, they mustve had it hard. I also just got to know that they consider disbanding during this speech. Heartbreaking to see them being emotional and cry, but we also see they are ready to thrive even harder, and that their conflicts are sort of resolved. Jimin actually talked about this during his livestream. He said him and the members are having such a hard time and trying so hard to get out of it. It also emotionally challenging for them. Jimin talked how he find ways to get out of it himself. I love that vlive, he really went to us and talk about his process of healing himself to us.
This speech still breaks my heart everytime i watch it. God knows what they went through, it pains me to discover that people i love were having such hard times. But im glad they have each other, such strong people, vulnerable but strong individuals.

bts members have this habit: if one of them starts crying it's very likely that others will cry too. like children. and it did hit taenhyung (V) hard, even after the ceremony he couldnt give any speech and in all photos he was crying non-stop. bts released an album that touches upon the topic of their disbandment and one of the very showing songs there is "outro:tear", it really makes you understand why V and other members cried so much when Jin mentioned that period of time. during that time bts went on some kind of hiatus and after that many people in the fandom still were feeling like something was off, and then we got the answer during this speech. they wanted to disband because they didn't expect this amount of exposure and responsibility being layed on them, being constantly in the public eye of millions and millions of people, being a role model for so many (i remember SUGA telling that he cried after the AMAs in the bathroom because he was hit with the realization of how huge they are now and it was scary), while also enduring hardships both in the home industry and outside with xenophobia and racism. but at the same time they all love music and they love each other, they feel like family, so i can only imagine how painful that period of time was for them to go through

As you said Jin can be quite a goofy guy but he can be very eloquent and profound when he wants to be. In another award show for example he adressed the industry manipulations by in short saying/hoping that music would be made in good faith in the future.
He's also not afraid to speak up in defense of others, especially the other members, and has done so several times. He can be rather blunt while still expressing it very diplomatically, if that makes sense. 😅
While visiting Malta for their travel show Bon Voyage he and RM had a rather heartfelt conversation where Jin said that he was actually being selfish when making others laugh because he was using their happiness to make himself happy. That's a really deep level of self-scrutiny.
RM was so inspired by it he used it in a speech he gave during a concert, urging ARMY to use them for comfort and happiness just like they used ARMY.

I saw BTS at the end of the tour, right before they went through their big crisis early 2019. Seeing them live back then, omg it was brutal. They had had an overly tight concert schedule across US and Europe for 2 months, with lots of press and activities in between the shows as well so almost no time for them to recover and relax properly. When I saw them in Berlin, Jungkook had injured his foot and couldn't dance, Tae's throat was acting up so much he even cried on stage, and the rest of the members looked so EXHAUSTED. I felt really bad for them, and I felt bad as an army. I didn't want to be the reason for them to push them to such an extreme state. They all did their best during the show, but you could tell that they actually had nothing more to give. I just wanted them to stop dancing and singing, just to sit on stage - have a little chat with army's and then send them home to rest. Soon after they took their first "hiatus" EVER. Just for a few weeks, but they got to go home and spend time with their families and friends. It was obvious how badly they needed just that. And through this speech, Jin revealed how bad it actually had gotten for them, that they even considered disbanding. Which was a huge chock to the fandom, but for me it was 100% understandable and would never blame them if that's what they would decide to do. Now a few years later, and with them hacing started their "chapter 2" I am so happy to see them all live their best lives, make more healthy boundaries and schedules and prioritize their personal growth and development. They seeem to have a new resolve as well to move forward as a band and that makes me so joyful. But all I know is that I as a fan NEVER will want to be the reason for them pushing themselves beyond their limits.

i was thinking the same thing about hobi standing off to the side... he clearly isn't used to being this vulnerable in public and you could tell that it was hard for him to handle and that the boys let him have his space because of that... :')

This moment always makes me cry. They work so hard and 2018 was def really hard year for them especially emotionaly. V lost a few people from his family and close friends and it he was very sad and depresed during that year. All of them deserve respect and love. Thank you for your reaction.

When I was a baby ARMY, I noticed that in this award shows, they mention things like we'll work hard so we can receive this reward again, where as the ordinary reaction would be "now that I've achieved this, off to the next higher goal" which, shows they're truly honored to have that reward, and they end up getting that achievement and achieving higher goals 🤯

I've never recovered from that 2018 speech, it broke my heart. It'll surprise you but SUGA did cry once, during the acceptance speech of their 1st MAMA daesang (=grand prize) in 2016. It was their 2nd overall, but 1st at MAMA.

I like to think that the jokes Jin brings and the way he is joking w others is his love language. He does it so much especially with ppl who are close to him and he can take some "hits" too from those ppl. But he also uses it as ice breaker. On the other hand he is very thoughtful and listening to him is just so Inspiring. And Yeah, SUGA isn't the type to talk much in public unless you bring on a topic he digs. But he can also be so goofy and loud, its adoring. The more comfy he feels, the goofier and louder he can be.

Not going too much into the weeds, yoongi's body language coming off as closed off isn't too surprising. He has been very open about his social anxiety, depression, and the struggles he has had. I think, when we get to these larger settings, while he is able to do it, it's hard for him still. Something I can sympathize with. Thank you for all of your thoughtful insight and reactions. It's so enjoyable and I learn a lot.

I remember watching this acceptance speech when it was first uploaded. I still remember seeing Hobi cry and me starting to bawl my eyes out with him. To see him smiling and laughing all the time and then now crying just made me so emotional.. BTS have come a long way through so much hardships, I’m honestly glad they never decided to disband

Jin doesn't like showing his vulnerable side or his hardships because he doesn't want to make his fans sad, so when he finally does break down and show just a little bit of his struggles it really hits hard.. this awards speech always tugs in my heartstrings

Sincerity, Sincerity, Sincerity in everything they do. Grateful, Grateful, Grateful and so much humility 🙏 is what made this 73 years old music 🎶 loving great grandmother fall in love with these young men. Unique talents, personalities, but a common bond of Sincerity is what makes their chemistry explosive. There are so many Kpop groups who have individual better vocalist, or more talented dancer, and strong bonds and beautiful sould, but there is just this spark, the Chemistry that hits differently with BTS. I AM GRATEFUL TO HAVE LIVED LONG ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE AND ENJOY BTS.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Max, these beautiful boys taught me so many things. They even taught me how to love myself. I'm still learning to love myself, but to know that they also have insecurities, fears and that they can show us the real themselves, is the many reasons why I love them. BTS also saved my life. When I find out that Suga have depression just like me and didn't hide it, I was so grateful to know that he is honest. Also we (ARMY) always say "BTS came into our lives when we needed it the most to know we loved".
    Enjoy your weekend.

like Nelson Mandela says "is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind."Kim Namjoon(Rm) is really a great leader he don't lead the group cuz he is leader he stays behind and push them forward he encourage and support them from behind. A beautiful lesson that all leaders can learn from Namjoon is that is okay to make mistakes, and take responsibility for them. In a world full of corruption, problematic behaviours and decisions, we unfortunately have situations where leaders are not willing to be held accountable. Instead, they take criticisms as “personal attacks,” and in some instances, would rather play the victim card than account for what they have said or done....so that's what makes him real Leader so we ARMY call him President Namjoon 💜☺

I liked what you said about Suga. He has gone through so much. He has been through depression, social anxiety, people cheating him for the music he wrote, a shoulder injury, etc. I am amazed at the person he has become after going through so much. :) In many of his raps, he talks about his experiences with himself and the world around him. He is also a fun guy as well. In Run episodes, and reactions they do, more of his fun personality and smile comes out. I believe it has a lot to do with his bond with all the members of BTS. ;)

I remember watching this live... The fan translations come a little bit delayed, so at first many people didn't know why they were crying... But then the realisation of what "disbandment" ment hit us. We know and knew back then also, that they don't really share their struggles, but I think in general nooone expected that it was this difficult for them that they actually talked a possibility of disbandment, a year before their contract renewal noneless. I think it is telling that all of them mentioned some vague struggles in their speeches, but only Jin actually said it directly - not RM, the factual leader, but THE hyung took this role on himself. When everyone thought they were at their peak and should be basking in their success, they showed us their most vulnerable side. Connection between us Armys and BTS is a parasocial one, true, but moments like these cement its genuity as well.

I was there in person, at the time I was a fan of Wannaone and knew very little about BTS, it was quite expected that BTS would win this grand prize but I was still disappointed about my favourite team at the time not getting it, I was shock to see BTS being this emotional over a prize that almost 90% of chance they could win, as I didn’t understand anything they said and knew nothing about their struggle, alongside with my disappointment I was kind of pissed about that. About half a year after this award show, I started to learn more about BTS and I immediately fell in love with them, then I realised it was almost the biggest regret of my life to have such feeling about that, I wish I could turn back time and be the proudest fan and cry together with them😭

the one thing in this video that just gets me each time is Jimin. he comforted Hobi, comforted and thanked army, made sure the members were alright, encouraged them and at the end, he went over to the side to cry, AND he stayed behind the members and turned away too. there's this little stereotype among the gp that Jimin is the emotional wreck in the team who needs constant support and validation, and maybe that was true once upon a time, but it's not anymore. Jimin has grown SO MUCH from the early days and he does take such good care of the members in his own quiet, lovely way. I just.. completely fucking ADORE this man.

@@HeavyMentalpl no because that man is so composed, so mature and so aware of his surroundings. he's emotionally intelligent, but he's book smart and street smart, and that part of him is so overlooked, especially by new army. I hate how everytime he goes live, people feel the need to comment about weight and food. like??? his ed is a thing of the past, and he's said that multiple times. he's a grown man, and he's self aware enough to take care of himself and I don't understand why people refuse to see that.
