The intro to Idol, regarded as the best special stage of 2018, was a very beautiful cultural performance showcasing South Korea’s traditional dances:JHope's Korean three drum dance, Jimin's fan dance (traditionally performed by an all women troupe) and Jungkook's mask dance. A lion dance was also performed with an accompaniment of korean traditional percussion music, all of which have been designated as elements of South Korea's intangible cultural property. Jimin received an award from the Kim Baek Bong Korean Fan Dance conservation society for having been able to highlight his delicate & powerful moves as a trained contemporary dancer and I've only mentioned the Idol performance.. 😁. The fact that you thought they would perform Daechwita hahaha. First of all, it's not a promotional song, it's from a mixtape, so it wouldn't make sense to do it in an award show. And the song was released in 2020 hehe :) The performance people keep talking about with all the members doing daechwita was for an online mini concert, and they did that for fun to surprise their fans. Kinda like the Ddaeng performance you saw where the vocal line participated with the rapline. They love to do those types of things to make ARMY laugh or surprise them a bit.
This music is like a remix of traditional Daechwita music that was played to announce the monarchs arrival though right? Watching this again, I am getting that after the MV they play Daechwita music to symbolise they are the "Kings" of the music industry arriving or something like that?

There is a Daechwita performance from the 8th Muster concert this past summer, which is super fun. It's not an award performance but totally worth viewing. When I started my BTS journey last year, I was shocked at how elaborate Asian music award shows are, much better than award shows in the West. No comparison.
BTS' live performances are the reason why we have such high standards. Despite the difficult choreographies they've always sang live. But the best things about their performances is always the energy they bring. It feels the same whether it's just them 7 on the stage or a hundred people like many of the MMA and Mama performances.
This Idol intro is hands down my favorite. The way it was a total celebrate Korea and its traditions. I've always loved the 5 Drum Dance ever since I learned about it, but the way they paid tribute to soany of their cultural dance traditions was just mind blowing.
This right here was the beginning of so many legendary mama stages, not just for BTS but many artists started going harder after this performance. I can't tell you how many times i've watched it or even watched other idols reaction to it.
and their live performances are even more special because they sing it live...that is crazy!! Their stamina, their hard work, their performance...they are deserve to get all compliment!!

The Idol production was so entertaining plus the special dance break of 3 J's (J-hope, Jimin & JK) and I love the Korean twist incorporated in the production.
They only performed Fake Love and Idol live. Airplane Part 2 was pre-recorded and played on large screens in between the two performances. This was so the members could change outfits for the last stage. The VCRs (the videos they play in between sets) and pre-recorded performances are common in Korean Awards shows to allow the idols to rest and change. Like you said, it would be difficult for them to perform 3 full songs with choreo. For the MAMA 2017, they performed an elaborate intro, Not Today, DNA, Cypher, and Mic Drop with extended dance breaks and were completely exhausted when they had to return back to their seats right after their performance. They were still breathing hard and sweating when they won the last award of the night and did their acceptance speech. MMA 2018 is my all-time favorite performance because of the intro, the stage, the backup dancers, props, and the modified hanboks (korean formal wear) they wore. There were probably about 70 people on stage at the end. Idol was written as a clap back at haters that were saying that BTS was becoming too westernized. The song purposely used traditional instruments, beats, and outfits in the MV. their MMA 2018 performance of idol was a celebration of Korea. The red and blue flashes of light at the beginning of idol represent the flag. The dance line performing the drum dance, fan dance, and cloth dance for the intro to idol. Dancing dragons, performers playing traditional instruments, and traditional dancers. There are several explained videos out there that explain the song and even this performance. You should check them out.
I think you’d really appreciate the meaning behind Idol. The UA-cam video explanation of this song by a Korean is what got me into them. The song is all about telling the haters they didn’t become too westernized like they were critiqued after gaining popularity abroad. They lyrics are so clever.
DKDKTV's explanation is so good for the cultural aspect while XCeleste deals with all the BTS related details. If you haven't seen her's as well I recommend you do. 💜😄👍💜
@oldGirl^7 it's definitely great, I just don't think you can ever replicate the feeling of a live crowd and the effects it has on the guys. But 20-21 are still worth watching and are amazing, too.
BTS are not just singers and dancers, they are PERFORMERS. Since finding them, I've watched several of these award shows, and No other group has performed or captured me the way BTS has. They truly have set the bar high for expectations! They out do themselves each and every year. No two performances will ever be the same; no matter what song they are doing.💜
The dedications BTS and Big Hit puts into their productions and performances for their fans are always astounding! BTS is generally used to performing in such a large stage and production scale that it was quite a challenge for them to perform in the small tight space with limitations on their performances on the American award or talk shows. The best one I've seen so far was the 1st Black Swan performance on the James Corden show. The space was so tight that J-Hope got kicked in the face accidentally during the performance which he amazingly finished without a hitch. I don't think I've ever seen any other artist decorate a talk show stage into a beautiful night lake in an enchanted forest with 7 handsome black swans dancing and singing magically. I was just entranced and so proud into virtual tears. Only BTS and Big Hit would put this much effort, dedication and love for their fans and we ARMY love them for their genuine sincerity to ARMY and their craft as artists.💜
This magnificent choreography, with BTS actually singing and dancing live, from intriguing Fake Love to Idol with Jimin commanding oriental fans…just incredible. I guess now you noticed that in Idol, the pompons you had mentioned earlier in the original music video, are actually representing 🐉 dragons as you saw on the stage :) Yes, they respect a lot about their original culture, which is often seen in their live performance as well as in their TV program. This also has attracted people outside of their culture, since for those people it’s very new and interesting.
During their rising success in the west, back in S. Korea, BTS were being criticized, looked down on and being called sell outs wanting so badly to be Westerners. This performance was BigHit’s and BTS’ slap in the face to all those criticizing them. By including in their performance so many cultural symbols and sounds they showed S.Korea and the world how proud they are to be S. Korean artists. In fact, thru this performance they showed the world the beauty of their culture and made millions of people admire and even fall in love with it. I love it when they respond to haters because we get to enjoy their response 😎😎 Loving your reactions… thank you 👍💜💜💜
I knew DJ would dig Airplane Pt2! It's always a trip when I watch people react to BTS' mixed genre songs, especially songs with latin/island-style flavors. It's like watching another artist right? But it's the same language. Jimin's fan dance has been featured in artworks in Korea, it's so epic!!!
The whole "Korean Cultural" theme seems like a clapback to those haters saying BTS were becoming "too westernized" just because they were becoming big globally and made it to the international music scene. But the truth is that BTS were able to make it big by staying true to their roots. Singing most of their songs in their native language, and showcasing Korean arts and culture to the world.
Can you even imagine if BTS did something of this caliber at an American awards show? The world would never be the same. A petty part of me hopes they do for their next Grammy performance after they were used for promo then pushed aside. America isn’t ready for it
I always wish they would release this version of Idol (the one with the traditional Korean instruments/sound). It's just so good! They actually used this version in the trailer (which fooled everyone into thinking the official would sound like it) and have been using it in concerts, but they never released the official audio :3
Me, every year: "This is their best award show performance. There's no way they can top this one." It is a cycle of my foolishness because it always turns out to be wrong.
Korean award shows put the american ones into shame 🤣🤣 camera work, sound, performances... Are superior *To understand idol and you should watch the explanation video by dkdktv *Jimin won an award for his fan dance from A Cultural Conservation Society for his contribution in raising the status and value of the Korean fan dance globally.
oh god this performance was a cultural reset. in 2018 bts musicality and them as an artist were "questioned" and told "being too westernized". Then they dropped this. I'm sure it was already planned ahead, but the timing was so damn perfect. Especially this performance where they blend traditional and modern culture into a masterpiece of a performance. I still remember how amazed and stunned everyone was (including the other idol who watched them) during the idol performance.
I love the performances at this award show! They are so amazing!!! The idol performance was STUNNING!! The creative directors for their performances have to be creative geniuses and the boys work so hard to give it all they got!! The awards they received and the acceptance speeches from them were so touching. One acceptance speech in particular was difficult to hear. It was very emotional as they shared a bit of their struggles. I am so happy they stayed together so they continue to bless our lives.
Your reaction when they disappeared and the your reaction to the intro to Idol I loved it. Can't wait to see your reactions tomorrow. Bigger and Better things yet to come no spoilers. These guys truly love their fans by putting on an incredible performance. See you tomorrow.
Visually, the 2018 performance is my favorite. They struggled with a lot of audio issues and that sucks, but I think lots of ARMY feel like the MMAs finally gave BTS the stage time they deserve and they used it to really show everyone their professionalism and range
It is undeniable how well organized are the Asian awards in terms of presentations. There is a production at the MV level, we can see how there is a concern with the perfect framing of the camera and its positioning, it's something we don't see in awards presentations in the West.
I was speechless after 2018, literally, mind-blowing. And then came 2019. I still recuperate. Lol.Over 37 minutes, such an impressive show. And for 2019 they practiced 3 months, it took 1 month to remix the songs. Over 180 dancers and around 280 costumes. Please keep in mind that some of the performances are pre-recorded due to set the stage, change and well breathe? 2018 was brilliant and I love the traditional aspect a lot. 2019 was wow… They practice the dances over and over, there is a lot of muscle memory. And they sing while running on a treadmill. It is just impressive.
On the intro, those little rooms spell a word: PERSONA. As they always do, they hinted the name of the album before we even knew about it. I remember the whole fandom was sure that the little rooms meant something (because we know nothing is a coincidence or meaningless with Big Hit), and we tried to find out if it was a word but it didn't click until they announced the name of the album. Then we all were able to see PERSONA on there hahahahahahahaa!
I always got chills while watching BTS, and even though I already rewatch it all the time i will feel fresh each time i watch BTS LIVE stage performance. Their daily stage is like a HUGE performance that make people didn't want to miss each of it
Always love to re-watch this performance! All of it, especially the intro to idol, such an amazing celebration of the music, the performing art, the culture! Such an amazing thing to see at a pop culture event. A brilliant mixture between the old and the new.
I just CANNOT wait for you to watch 2019 MMA Performance. If this was the best performance you saw, that is Legendary. I have not seen a better performance ANYWHERE.
I'm so glad y'all are enjoying these stages. The pure look of joy and delight and awe I see in your eyes as you watch these stages just melts my heart. Thank y'all for taking us on this journey with you. It NEVER gets old.
MMA 2020 is one of my all time favorites!!! I even have the intro as my Lock Screen!! BTS didnt go to mma and mama in 2021 so you won’t find it… but the other ones are absolutely amazing!
your question about how do they sing and dance for a whole concert and how they remember it? it’s soooo much practice that the choreographies are muscle memory at this point. If you watch them sing a song without the dance that goes with it, you’ll notice they can’t help themselves but do certain moves from the choreo, even if it’s just the arms, that’s muscle memory, and that’s how much practice goes behind it. BUT to answer the question of not one song, or two but a whole concert, well… it happened before that they ran backstage between songs, sometimes faint, the staff cool them with fans, give them oxygen, dry their sweat, then they get dressed in the next outfit and run back to the stage for the next song as if nothing happened. We didn’t know about it until they revealed it in their movies. No one in the stadium knew that Jungkook was passed out backstage bc he came back and gave his all for the next song like he was fine. Yoongi recently got surgery for his shoulder because he had an accident around their debut, and it was still painful bc he kept it a secret at first. That man danced like that for YEARS before he finally got surgery for his injured shoulder. Jimin used to be hospitalized sometimes because of severe back pain. Namjoon had a deviated septum, meaning he couldn’t breathe/sleep well, and he got surgery for that in 2018 i think? he had been rapping since he was a kid with a deviated septum preventing him from breathing correctly with both nostrils. They got hurt several times, Jungkook cut his heel backstage and got stitched up, he was supposed to do the concerts seating on a chair for a while, but that boy was sometimes standing and tryna dance. Tae injured his knee but danced anyway. It’s NOT easy, and i personally think they push themselves too far sometimes, but what can we do? they live for it, they live for the stage. We can just hope they don’t get hurt 🙏 During that performance of idol on the raising platform, i was soooo scared one of them would fall, that choreo has a lot of spinning and jumping, and the platform raises while they’re jumping and stuff and since this was live, i had no guarantee they wouldn’t fall, it was kinda hard to watch for me hahah. Now i love watching it though 😋
Wow! You're surprised by this? Wait for 2019 then. It will blow your mind I bet. Their every single performance is worth watching. Everytime they come up with something unique for their performance. They are so creative and innovative. 💜
Idol was such huge song. Everyone is playing it in the streets, malls, restaurants. Then they released a ft. with Nicki Minaj, everyone's learning to dance it- it was such a fun era. The intro 17:21 is like a national anthem, you just gotta get up and wave your hips. A piece of music that everyone truly enjoyed and nobody cared if it's K-pop or whatnot. Even my classmates who don't listen to k-pop just don't care and vibed with us. It was so loud in school parties and stores. It's like a festival for the whole year ♡
About the fan dance: "Aside from being addressed by the medias, Jimin proved his impact when he received an appreciation plaque from the 3rd Kim Baek Bong Fan Dance Preservation Society of Intangible Cultural Heritage. He received the award after his contribution in spreading fan dance all around the world. Shortly after that his fan dance photo was seen on the cover of Weekly Gonggam issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism."
The blocks/cells/rooms they performed the intro to Fake Love actually vaguely spelled out “Persona” which was a hint for the next album: “Map of the Soul: Persona”
When I saw you were planning to watch these- I went back and watched them all again, got so excited remembering what it was like to see them the first time- you guys are in for a treat 💜
MMA 2019 will blow this out of the water. Not because this isn’t one of the greatest performances ever, but because 2019 IS THE GREATEST PERFORMANCE EVER. The other Airplane Pt 2 performance is even better. The intro is so good but them perform sing in all white is just 👌
All the dances in Idol's intro are traditional Korean dances. The Idol song itself was composed entirely based on traditional Korean rhythm. The members' outfits were based on traditional Korean hanbok, and they said in an interview that it was the best performance outfit chosen by the members.
Personally, my fav mma performance of BTS was on 2018...i just love all the stages performances and the song arrangement for IDOL as its included the korean identity

This performance was in 2018. Daechwita as a song came out many years after this performance (2020) 😂😂 and the OT7 performance came out last year (2021)
So so glad you loved that because seriously, they deserve all the hype and I love watching your reactions. Like I seriously hold my breath in hopes you'll enjoy each mv/perfomance/funny moments you both react to because for some reason, I dont want them to disappoint you (WHICH THEY WOULE NEVER) but still. I've come to really love your reactions so I tend to hold my breath. Thank yous both for loving them and their artistry and their music and everything else. This 'Idol' is my favourite BTS's performence ever. Period.
💜😄👍💜
@@imajinallthepurple cool I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Can't wait for tomorrow's 2019 one. I hate that covid messed up 2020-2021 being live. They still did great, but nothing beats live.
와!!!! 미쳤다!!!? 이걸 가져오셨네!!!! 🫢🫢😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍💜💜💜
MMA 2019 full performance left me speechless. Can’t wait for your reaction. 💜💜💜
Y'all are in for a treat with their 2019 and 2020 performances.
I think this idol performance was the one that made the venue floor shake when they started dancing and all the idols were shook😂
The IDOL performance was a standing ovation not just from Army but from other artist as well.
I love it when they respond to haters because we get to enjoy their response 😎😎 Loving your reactions… thank you 👍💜💜💜
WHO ELSE SAYS THIS ALONG WITH THEM??----ANOTHER BTS REACTION MCA DJ LETS GO LETS GO
👋👋👋
🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️
💁🏽♀️ the end too
I knew DJ would dig Airplane Pt2!
America isn’t ready for it
Waiting for the MMA 2019 full performance.
It's so lit and amazing to see them performing that long.
I always wish they would release this version of Idol (the one with the traditional Korean instruments/sound). It's just so good! They actually used this version in the trailer (which fooled everyone into thinking the official would sound like it) and have been using it in concerts, but they never released the official audio :3
If they think 2018 was epic, I can’t wait for them to watch 2019 MMA that is my favourite one so far
Me, every year: "This is their best award show performance. There's no way they can top this one."
It is a cycle of my foolishness because it always turns out to be wrong.
Korean award shows put the american ones into shame 🤣🤣 camera work, sound, performances... Are superior
*To understand idol and you should watch the explanation video by dkdktv
*Jimin won an award for his fan dance from A Cultural Conservation Society for his contribution in raising the status and value of the Korean fan dance globally.
😁😁😁 yes, it's a stage and every year is much better and longer...you'll love 2019. Thank you!!!! 💜💜💜💜
oh god this performance was a cultural reset. in 2018 bts musicality and them as an artist were "questioned" and told "being too westernized". Then they dropped this. I'm sure it was already planned ahead, but the timing was so damn perfect. Especially this performance where they blend traditional and modern culture into a masterpiece of a performance. I still remember how amazed and stunned everyone was (including the other idol who watched them) during the idol performance.
The IDOL performance in the 2018 MMAs just recently won an award on the 2021 MMA for Legendary Performance
Can't wait for your reaction on their MAMA 2018 in Japan performance. It's lit 🔥
I just CANNOT wait for you to watch 2019 MMA Performance. If this was the best performance you saw, that is Legendary. I have not seen a better performance ANYWHERE.
FR!
I'm so glad y'all are enjoying these stages. The pure look of joy and delight and awe I see in your eyes as you watch these stages just melts my heart. Thank y'all for taking us on this journey with you. It NEVER gets old.
When you press the LIKE button one minute in... Subscribed!
MMA 2020 is one of my all time favorites!!! I even have the intro as my Lock Screen!! BTS didnt go to mma and mama in 2021 so you won’t find it… but the other ones are absolutely amazing!
Tomorrow: MMA 2019!!!! Very much excited.
your question about how do they sing and dance for a whole concert and how they remember it? it’s soooo much practice that the choreographies are muscle memory at this point. We can just hope they don’t get hurt 🙏
During that performance of idol on the raising platform, i was soooo scared one of them would fall, that choreo has a lot of spinning and jumping, and the platform raises while they’re jumping and stuff and since this was live, i had no guarantee they wouldn’t fall, it was kinda hard to watch for me hahah.
It's like a festival for the whole year ♡
About the fan dance:
"Aside from being addressed by the medias, Jimin proved his impact when he received an appreciation plaque from the 3rd Kim Baek Bong Fan Dance Preservation Society of Intangible Cultural Heritage. He received the award after his contribution in spreading fan dance all around the world. Shortly after that his fan dance photo was seen on the cover of Weekly Gonggam issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism."
The complete domination of turning an awards show into a BTS concert lol.
The blocks/cells/rooms they performed the intro to Fake Love actually vaguely spelled out “Persona” which was a hint for the next album: “Map of the Soul: Persona”
It just gives me goosebumps everytime and leaves me dumbfounded.
BTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!💜
When I saw you were planning to watch these- I went back and watched them all again, got so excited remembering what it was like to see them the first time- you guys are in for a treat 💜
이 영상은 내인생 최고 좋아하는 영상이에요 하루에도 몇번이고 볼 수 있어요~^^
oh your mind will be blown with MMA 2019. best performance of all time.
This award show performance gave hints to their next album "MOTS: P E R S O N A!" 🤩👏🕺🎶🎤👑🥇🏆🌎
MMA 2019 will blow this out of the water. Not because this isn’t one of the greatest performances ever, but because 2019 IS THE GREATEST PERFORMANCE EVER. The other Airplane Pt 2 performance is even better. The intro is so good but them perform sing in all white is just 👌
The Grammys could never 😆 I cannot WAIT to watch you react to 2019!
Cant wait for you to see mma 2019 omg, gonna blow your mind up!!!
All the dances in Idol's intro are traditional Korean dances. The Idol song itself was composed entirely based on traditional Korean rhythm. The members' outfits were based on traditional Korean hanbok, and they said in an interview that it was the best performance outfit chosen by the members.
Whenever I watch these performances it always trips me out because these are AWARD SHOWS and not their concerts!
Personally, my fav mma performance of BTS was on 2018...i just love all the stages performances and the song arrangement for IDOL as its included the korean identity
The most historic and iconic performance that no one can bet, I’m sure hahaha
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this BTS performance, everytime it's like my first!! It's just amazing!!!
Daechitwa was released in 2020 and this performance was in 2018 😂.
can't wait to see MMA 2019! omggg I love this performance so much! Idol is such a powerful song and meaningful to all of us
Personally, 2018 MMA is my absolute favourite! Love the fan dance too. Love your reaction to this and that you just couldn't contain your excitement. Looking forward to the next videos.
This MMA 2018 is my favorite ever performance of BTS. I can watch it again and again. I love the intro, sooo beautiful. And I love how they have mix traditional music with their universe. It's an amazing performance.
They love each other so so much and making music for ARMY is their only goal (they don't really worry about charting and such because as long as ARMY love their music, that's enough for them) so knowing yous are always blown away by them makes my smile and heart swell~ THANK YOU!!
Im excited for 2019 and 2020 MMA reaction.
One of my favorites
The ending was like mardi gras!
This performance is my favorite BTS award show performance, HANDS DOWN
There is a Daechwita performance with all members, just search daechwita muster sowoozoo, they also performed chicken noddle soup :3
Right on time.🤗🤗🤗🤗
It gets bigger and better every year 💜
Thank you for doing this
Imagine watching this live. This award show used to be quite long (more than 4 hours long) with the time difference; it can be quite tiring to stay up watching. I was wide awake by the end of BTS' performance.
Waiting for 2019 review. You can see how cool these really guys are. So great. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I'm excited to see your reaction tomorrow for MMA 2019! You'll be in a BTS concert for real!!
