wowww... pretty crazy when something isn't in your face all the time anymore and someone brings it back to your attention years later... i forgot how much this entire series played a huge part in my teenage years/early 20's big thumbs up from me on this new format
I love how much Turk also indulges JD's little idiosyncrasies throughout the series. Their relationship has always been such a bright point in my tv watching experiences. I'm really interested in seeing the rest of this series!
@@offbeatkiki me too! I remember seeing in some extras on the dvds that Zach Braff and Donald Faison really hit it off on day 1 on set which drove the deep friendship the pair were scripted to have way further and better than the writers could have hoped for. The chemistry between the actors really helped drive the show reportedly. I really appreciate it when fun coincidences like that happen
not that I don't like long-form content, but I gotta say, I love that you can make a video dissecting a show/episode/concept/whatever without it being 4 and a half hours long like most video essayists seem to be doing these days xD again, I love those creators & their content, but sometimes a 15-minute video is a welcome break from it
Hey thanks for saying that. I've made a few that were around an hour, but it was because I had that much to say. I don't really see the point of walking through what happens in every episode/season of a show like a lot of creators are doing right now - I think in pretty much every scenario it'd be better to watch the actual show, unless it's a bad series, in which case I wouldn't make a video about it. Maybe I'm losing out on piles of money for that but whatever lol. I try to just say what I wanna say and get out, I can't stand fluff.
Futurama has a great pilot, and by ep 2 they've introduced every major character and the tone. Malcom in the Middle is always by number 1 pick, best live action sitcom ever, and the pilot really nails it! Absolutely captures that life.
I'd have to watch the show first! I've never seen the whole thing. I did love the first few episodes when I saw them on tv as they aired back in the day though.
I was never a full on fan of the show. But I do distinctly remember spending hotel weekend nights just watching this show on Comedy Central. It was a weirdly aesthetic experience almost like how most people describe watching adult swim in the dead of night. Also, cool concept of a series. I would recommend the SpongeBob pilot as a perfect example. It establishes an origin for the character and their setting for rest of the series as well as the foundational characteristics of most main characters for the series as it moves forward. Also, it still holds up.
I love pilots!! It’s really interesting getting a glimpse at what the writers and creators envision the show will or could be. Mission Hill has an awesome pilot, and the X files has my personal favorite. Never seen scrubs, but I’m going to try it now!
Ahhh, probably my favourite show when it comes to live action comedic stuff. I think what makes me love it so much are the flawed but ultimately very sympathetic characters, the philosophy and tone which I think you nailed in this video! I think the setting also helps with pulling off the more dramatic plots which in any different series would feel too melodramatic. Also, I feel like it somehow aged a bit better than a lot of other sitcoms of that time which I think is also due to the character writing and all events being told through character POVs. Either way, now I want to rewatch the whole thing haha Also, didn't know the same person is also behind Clone High so that's a cool bit of info!
Bill Lawrence worked with Lord and Miller to make Clone High! They went on to make Into the Spiderverse which is one of the best movies ever made! Thank you so much for watching I'm glad you think I nailed it I love Scrubs
I just came from the Futurama episode and I gotta say that this format is great! There are a bunch of pilots that I would love to recommend but I'm very excited for you to talk about Scrubs some more!
Love the format! If you're looking for another perfect pilot The Newsroom is just stellar! It has the benefit of being long form dramatic content but the "twist" (using the term loosely) hits so hard it reeled me in permanently
Love the video, for the future I’d recommend not hard spoiling the story beats/resolutions at the end of the series for people that haven’t watched it yet. Minor for a sitcom but for more dramatic shows it’d suck
Good times. I was 15 when it came out and for years it has been my favourite show and nothing ever came close (as far as live action shows go.) I also love listening to their podcast about it. They still show it here on free TV to this day
Scrubs is one of those shows that no matter how many times I re-watched it, I still love it. You could do Abott Elementary. I personally think that pilot is a great example as well
Recently rewatched Scrubs from start to finish, and it has aged like wine where other sitcoms have aged like flowers from a garage forecourt. It's not just the emotional beats, even the way they handle jokes was a lot more mature than other shows at the time. Race, sexuality, gender, it was all such differnet jokes. Even when there was some low hanging fruit for the time, Scrubs often grabbed the low hanging fruit, but then had a character reacting to that joke in a more progressive way. Even down to Dr Cox calling JD a girls name; Dr Cox gets lazier with the joke as time goes on as if he is changing. Masterful writing and no laugh track at a time when TV was laugh track central!
Remember that episode of The Scrubs TV Series where all the other different Doctor where wearing Daipers in a Daipers Adults Baby Dream from one of the main Doctors Ladies Scrubs Character's in the TV Series!
We would be good friends I feel. You enjoy all the shows and movies that I love. Especially Scooby Doo I grew up watching that show and it still and always will have a special place in my heart.
K. I've seen Scrubs a few times. I thought it was great. And, this one may or may not be a pilot but it was the first episode. Can you review No Service from Mickey Mouse 2013?
What is one of everyone’s favorite underrated scrubs quote? Mine is “Does this hat make me look fly” followed by “Does this hat make me look flyeth? it jingles when I shake it”
Season 9 could have taken off if instead of pushing a new "born female" j.d. it focused on the strong female character from the 4 interns the pushed as the "next gen" cast in season 8, Eliza coupe's mahone character
no idea if you watch this show but It's Sunny in Philadelphia has a fantastic pilot for introducing each character. It's a bit extreme though as the subject of the episode is racism.
@@offbeatkiki I’d also like to see Last Man on Earth, because even though it never won, its pilot seems to be the primary episode submitted to garner the nominations (confirmed for Emmys and WGAs)

what shows do you want to see me discuss in this format? sound off below! every show i put in the intro montage will get a video like this eventually!
This was great!
I nominate Six Feet Under, Atlanta and Futurama.
The Flash pilot maybe.
Regular show or futurama I love those 2 shows I love the storyteller in both of the shows.
Freaks and Geeks! Probably the best TV pilot I've ever seen.
God help me.... Gilmore Girls.
This show was my comfort show during middle and highschool
Same! In high school and college!

brilliant choices, i was planning on doing futurama already but now i definitely want to do malcolm in the middle
you've convinced me to give this show a chance
girl imma dm you cause its a product of its time but the character and relationship arcs really are incredible
Let's fuckiiiing goooooooo, one of my favorite sitcoms, I have rewatched so many times and now is being covered by a great creator
Me too! Easily my most rewatched show lol, thanks so much for watching!!
@@offbeatkiki thank you for the great content, you deserve an appletini
“We don’t talk about season 9” is correct lol
Great video and analysis of the characters so far!

Awesome vid. Looking forward to more Perfect Pilot episodes!
Love the video, pilots like Regular show or Dexter’s lab are some of my favorites. I remember watching Scrubs back when it was on Hulu, pretty good
The intro credits song for scrubs still slaps.
