  • Today I decided to walk around the flats in The Maldives with some light tackle, fishing for anything that bites. Flats fishing in the Maldives is amazing and always succesvol.
    In this video I am fishing in Maafushi, an island of Kaafu Atoll. I catch some snappers, emperor and grouper. The needlefish are also always around.

      This is on Maafushi, a very popular destination. I also fished a lot on Thoddoo (check out my newer videos). Keep in mind, you are only allowed to fish on local islands (islands where the locals live). You cannot fish on resort islands.

    • @chizzyfishing
      @chizzyfishing  3 роки тому

      Nice. This is on the north-east side of Maafushi. There are less tourists swimming on this side of this island and there is a deeper hole where a lot of fish (like emperor, snapper an grouper) are hiding. I don't really understand you question about Thoddoo though 😉

      Sorry, not sure what I used here. It was some very cheap telescope rod from Wish and a 2000 reel I bought in a Thailand store. I used a 20 pounds mono line.
      I bought some new and better gear for my next trips when the border open again. I will start listing my gear in future videos 😉

    Hi Chris, which island is this?

    • @chizzyfishing
      @chizzyfishing  4 роки тому

      This is Maafushi. I visited Thoddoo and Maafushi on the same trip, but Maafushi is way to busy with tourists. This is the only area of the island where you can fish. You can still catch Trevally, Emperors, Groupers etc, but there is less reef close to the shore, so way less action compared to Thoddoo ;)

    • @chizzyfishing
      @chizzyfishing  Рік тому +1

      I believe so yes, however all the tourists are swimming on the west coast. That is why you can't really fish on that side. (Perhaps you can try in the evening). I went fishing on the east coast every time, which is the quiet side of the island. Good luck 🎣👍.

    • @chizzyfishing
      @chizzyfishing  Рік тому +1

      @@smileho3574 No problem. You will probably also see some locals fishing on the waterbreakers on the north side of the island. So you could try there in the evening as well if flats fishing is not really your thing. But I would definitely advice flats fishing with tiny lures like I do in this video 😉. On the east side of the island it is very shallow, but at one spot there is suddenly a big hole, which holds some great fish (you can probably spot it on Google Maps). Otherwise walk a bit further into the sea, past all the grassy ground. There you will also find emperor, groupers, snapper, small bluefin Trevally and even GT's and reef sharks. Be careful walking far out on the far north/east side though, as current can be strong there when tide changes. 🎣🤙

    Quick question, I'm planning to go to the maldives, to Diamond thudufushi. Can i fish there? There is nothing written on the internet.
    Please let me know. Thanks

    • @chizzyfishing
      @chizzyfishing  3 роки тому +1

      There are some strict rules to protect the reef, but basically you can fish from the beach on all local island (islands where the locals live). On resort islands (such as Diamond Thudufushi) you most likely can not fish from the beach and need to hire a boat to fish from the boat or drop you off on an island where you are allowed to fish. However sometimes you can ask permission from the owner of the resort. So maybe you can email the resort and ask if they allow you to fish on the island. Good luck and have fun ✌️

      @@just.joeking0255 Ow that is a shame. They are very protective of the reefs around the resorts. Hope you can organize a nice fishing trip or island drop off. I am sure you will have a great time in the maldives 🌞 🐟 ⛱️

      Unfortunately I don't have any fishing boat details, because I always fish from the beach on local islands. It's free and doesn't take much planning ;) If you stay on a local islands it is pretty easy to find someone who would take you out for fishing though, especially for tuna fishing in the morning. If you stay on a resort island and would like to do big game fishing, be prepared to spend some money ;)

      If you ever visit Maldives again I would suggest trying the southern part of the Maldives, Addu. It has quite a lot to offer. www.discoveraddu.com
      I would suggest Pebbles Inn if you do visit as it is in one of the best locations in Addu and it is close to most of the activities. instagram.com/pebbles_inn/
      If you are into fishing there is something for everyone. Light fishing or the big ones.
      You can go in front of the guesthouse and you are ready to fish if you have the gear. Or you could rent a kayak or water bicycle from the guesthouse. instagram.com/idhikalhi/
      Let’s say you are bored of fishing the small ones and you want to go for the big guns they have it covered. There are a few big game fishing charters. The main one been ASF Maldives. instagram.com/asfmaldives/
