Wheelchair Accessible Mercedes Sprinter, home build on low budget, nothing fancy but does the job

- Here is me getting in our Mercedes Sprinter Motorhome, rear wheelchair lift, with toilet/shower, kitchen, double bunk and hand controls.
This was a Sprinter minibus that we converted into an accessible van so I could get to the local motocross meetings and festivals after obtaining a spinal cord injury whilst racing.
The lift was already fitted to the minibus, we just installed the interior to suit ourselves so we had everything on hand for a weekend away.
There is plenty we might change if we were to do another one, but this was enough for us...and the video was only really added to show the guy who wanted to buy it how things worked.

I suppose all that could be done/ordered...this van was a minibus that we converted ourselves for our own use for the odd day away. The hand controls were altered as came off a clk mercedes i used to own, and the interior was a caravan we stripped and fitted to suit. the lift and door we just made work for ourselves. And on a budget lol...

There are easier conversions out there but I admire your innovation.
If we had wanted to throw money at it then of course there are things we could of done differently...but this was just taking a minibus and converting it so we had beds, somewhere to wash and shower, and somewhere to cook. The clip was only put on so we could show how it worked when it came to sell it. Definitely not to show off how good it is lol but the guy was delighted with it and off he went to Germany the next week :-)
Hey Wayne...this van was just a little project me and my father did...its not fancy, its not hi-tec...its just a cheap conversion from a mini bus to a campervan. The lift was already on the van, and as we have found with various lifts etc, moving them can cause problems with either fuel tanks being in the way, or drive shafts interfering with the lift being fitted.
We just did it so i could get away to motocross meetings or outdoor gig and stay over. You had everything you needed from a fully working shower and toilet, hand basin, thru to the kitchen with sink, oven and units, to the double seats that converted to a single bed with room for another single on the floor if needed.
Push pull hand controls were fitted and work great...ye working as a courier wouldnt be a problem...id fit a lift at one of the side doors and hand controls and away you go. Obviously most courier vans come with a bulkhead from front to back but could be altered-taken out.
This van was only put on here so when i was selling it on ebay you could see what it looked like and how it worked...if you didnt like it the you didnt need to bid lol. It is what it is but worked for us, and only cost about £11000...u dont find accessible motorhome vans for that price lol.

I still have to use a handmade trailer to carry my chair around since medical bills caused me to sell everything and downgrade to a small car which sucks in itself because I am a giant.

Am surprised on a few things.. One, the rear entry, you have a sliding door at the side and space to use, why not use the same ramp and put it at the sliding door !! Two, the amount of space the wheelchair can access is amazing, dont get me wrong, most folks will say claustrophobic, but I say its compact and usable as an every day drive if need be ( it is based on a van Yes ?? ) and lastly, Hand controls.. I was wondering how a van driver situation would work for someone in a wheelchair, and this proves the concept very nicely. Gratz to all involved in this, and to think the Vid is almost 4 years old ;) Very Well Done !

This was converted by us from a mini bus so we could get away for the odd weekend...if id wanted something perfect i would of payed the ridiculous amount of money and got the all singing all dancing model. This was only put on here to show the van as we were selling it. yes its not perfect...but we didnt pay a fortune for it.
