This is a tutorial on how to fix and solve any Lexus with an electronic trunk opener either by pressing the trunk button on the driver's side control panel or from the Key FOB or Remote.
Problem: Trunk won't open by pressing on the remote or driver's side control unit.

My husband made an appointment with the dealer earlier today. I watched this video and it turned out his trunk wouldn't open due the button. He also didn't know how to open it with the key. He thinks I'm brilliant right now, lol! Thank you the video!

You're the real g I was tripping thinking I lost every thing that was in there I didn't even see the key hole on the trunk when I looked the button is what did the trick

So, finally solved it permanently. The problem was the external switch (in between the number plate lights). The rubber cover had gone all gooey and would work once and then not return to the "off'" position, causing the ecu to switch the system off. $95 for a new switch. Strip out the inside of the trunk lid and more, but all sorted now! You still put me on the right track and saved me a lot of money Thank you!
It is black Gooey on the right hand side ? How do you fix it? My trunk won't open. My tires guy can't program my spare tpms
Nice! Didnt know the computer needs to reset for the latch to attempt an unlock again. It beeped but didnt engage. After battery disconnect and reset it worked. The mechanic shop tried but told me to take it to the dealer. Glad i found this video. Thank you!!

Had this car since 2006 and never knew about that button. Trunk was not opening all winter and we had to use the key. Fixed it in 2 seconds after watching this video, almost took the trunk apart first. Thanks!

Wow, simple fix! Thank you for the video. Beside resetting the windows, how to reset the sunroof?
Unfortunately, in my case, it seems to be the trunk latch motor. I did what was shown here but no lucks.
Double check your battery voltage and how old is the battery? Do you hear the trunk motor sound when popping the trunk with the button from remote?
@@macdaddypimpping Thanks for the quick response! Battery is 18mos old, so I don't think it's the battery. Unfortunately, no sound from the trunk motor when pressed on the trunk button on the remote or on the panel in the cabin. I checked all the fuses in the cabin, the trunk, and in the engine compartment, and they are all OK. It does look more and more like a dead trunk latch motor.

Everything on mine works except the trunk button. Tested the switch for that button and it works.
When I tested the voltage on the power side I only got 1V. Is that normal?

Hi! I have a 2006 lexus is250, for some reason i can’t unlock my car when i pull on the handle. i really hate taking out my keys to unlock my car. any suggestions? thank you! btw i did replace a new battery on my key
Use the key in the remote to open your trunk first then open your passenger side door and open the glove box make sure trunk button is pressed down. Now try to open with your remote and test it out again. If this didn't work then you will need to disconnect your car battery for like ten minutes and then connect it back and do the procedure again, good luck.

Do you know what I can do if you think something is jammed in the latch? It was raining super hard and after getting the jumper cables out of the trunk when my battery died due to me leaving the radio playing while the engine was off, I quickly shut the trunk without realizing there was a bunch of branches from Bush I parked next to stuck in the trunk as I closed it & now I believe it's not opening because the lock/hook is jammed
Use your physical key to open the trunk while trying to lifting up your trunk.

I have this problem, but putting the key into the keyhole on the trunk does not work. How should I go about fixing this issue?
If your physical fail then you will need to try to use a bloom stick to open in the middle opening by folding down the cup holder and latch it up to open manually.

What about trunk wont close ?
It worked but it only worked once and then it stopped working again. Please advise.
Check your battery voltage, battery health, or CCA. Battery may be low voltage and cause of this.
So, it worked beautifully for a week, then stopped working. I reset the ECU again and it's working now, but not sure for how long. I think something else is wrong, but it's not the catch motor!
Check your battery, hot summer tends to drain the battery and stop your trunk motor from opening.
@Keith Garden::: Make sure your battery is good or/and your alternator is working properly.
Weak battery/alternator will stop the power seats and radio from working as well as the rear hatch.
It was a no go for me 2009 lexus gs 350
You might want to check the trunk lid opener fuse(10A) and the trunk motor, maybe one of them gone bad.
It didn’t work on my 2008 es350
Check your fuse and if it's good then you might have a bad motor.

It won't closed because the spring on the actuator is not working correctly, you will need to take apart the actuator/motor cover and add a screw so the spring won't get jam or stuck. Here is the instruction on how to get to your trunk actuator/motor: ua-cam.com/video/0MOVGkCOX1A/v-deo.html
Sounds like you have ES350?
Try to move the manual latch to ensure your latch is not in lock position.

Toyota Lexus people are crazy. This is how they design a car? This is supposed to be a luxury car? You change the battery and the windows don't work!? Then you have to "reprogram" the windows. This is nutz.

@@macdaddypimpping the valet mode button i tried it but had no reaction.. tried disconnecting the battery for like 10 mins but still nothing
it's enough to disconnect for 20-30 seconds
You can try it but I don't think that's enough to reset it, be sure you are not doing any SMOG check before disconnecting your battery or else you will need to do the drive cycles to pass SMOG.
@@macdaddypimpping I have to reset my trunk very often every time someone slams it, trust me tried and true and the windows will function normally
