  • Chevy did a lot of things right in 1953 but not everything! They missed one key thing. GETTING THE LATCH ASSEMBLE IN THE DEPRESSION THAT IT WAS MADE FOR. In this video I’m going to show you how we fixed this factory error super easy.
We used the Altman Easy Door Latch Kit for a 1953 Chevy five window truck which can be found online. We show you how to modify the door so the rod wont rub on your door panel. This is an easy fix that will save you a lot of time and headache when you move to the interior.

So actually 1947 to early 1948 that actuating arm actually did sit in that channel. Sometime in mid 1948 Chevrolet decided in some weird infinite wisdom, started moving them to the top. HOWEVER the nearly same actuators can be found on 1964-66 trucks has the SAME triangle mount, however with the little arm that swings is below, instead of on top (so no need to flip it over). (I know this all gets weird). So what I did notice was that the rotation was to push the handle forward rather than the natural action of pulling.

Can you mount the handle pointing down so the natural action is still to pull?

I would think switching right for left, 64 would change to pull.

@@frankssawdustfactory3872 technically yes, it (to me) looks weird pointed down, and is in an awkward location. Using the 64-66 relays relocated the arm in the channel like it should be, and the handles operate as they should, and lets you mount the handle in a location that more in line with every other car out there.

Nice job, I don't know if you mentioned this pickup has bear claw/jaw latch conversion already.

The easier way is to rotate the regulators 180 degrees on their correct side and have the linkage bar at the bottom. That way you don’t have to cut your door with the air saw

If you do that and don't switch right to left then your handles don't work the same way. And you wind up pulling instead of pushing. You could run 1964 chevy truck remotes and correct the bar location and get the other bolt hole at the top.
