Always cool to see one creator I subscribe to commenting on another creator's video who I subscribe to haha. I'm starting to dig Stephen Wilson Jr. as well.
Thank you so much for sharing this song from Stephen Wilson Jr. and your wonderful insight, with your audience. I found it last year after the sudden loss of my friend, and my father's passing earlier that same year. The song just surfaced in my YT feed at that time, as if I was supposed to hear it. I hope this song speaks to everyone who grieves for the ones they've lost. Cheers to you for delving into this song, and continued success to you, Justin.
First time I heard the song “the devil” I thought who is this guy so I bought the album and I have to say Stephen Wilson jr is the best debut album I’ve listened to in a long time! From beginning to end then song writing and atmosphere of his record is top notch!
The other night while sitting around the fire my father showed me this new artist he really likes; it was Stephen Wilson Jr. and I only just subscribed to your channel the other week. I always appreciate seeing legendary professional musicians listen to new things and it's very interesting hearing Justins insights into artists he hasn't heard before, so this was very cool. Thanks for sharing!
Got to meet him a year or so ago when he was the opening act for The Lone Bellow. As soon as we heard and saw him perform, we knew he wouldn't stay unknown for long. It's funny that, at the time, no one knew who he was, and I was able to walk right up to him after the show. He almost seemed surprised someone wanted to talk to him. haha Going to see him in a few months, and I think it's going to be quite a different experience. He's the main act now.
I’ve been banging on about SWJ in the comments so thanks for featuring him. It took me a short while to get used to his voice but his songs and lyrics are so good.
Not only a great song writer, voice and guitar player, he’s been over to the UK many times and is a fantastic live performer! And a unbelievable nice bloke.i have chatted to him back stage and must say their’s something very special about him!
YES!!! Love Me some Stephen Wilson Jr. Glad you are reacting Justin. His hole catalog is great. Father's Son, You, 1994 year to be young all incredible.
The greatest album in 25 years and I’ve listened to it every day for months. Quite incredible lyrics, unique guitar, and emotion vocals. So glad it was recommended to me and I played it to the point it hit……and by eck, it hit hard.
Stephen Wilson is a unique genius. Saw him live in London at the end of last year. His song The Beginning makes me stop whatever I’m doing as it’s such a ride !
Thought this was a video on Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree) and was ecstatic you were finally talking about him. Sadly it wasn’t - please talk about his genius soon!
Yes - that riff reminds me (a bit) of Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode but I only noticed after you mentioned them. And I agree he is a good songwriter. I like to watch you puzzling out the tune - cogs whirring away. 😁
SWJr is incredible, I have been a fan for a long time. I saw him in Knoxville a few months ago in a small club. Now I can’t get a ticket to see him. My son and I listen to him. His album is 22 songs and we don’t skip any. American Gothic!
This is the best artist I have heard in decades. It’s not even my kind of music usually but I can’t get enough. Stephen Wilson Jr is going to be MASSIVE.
Since going on about stuff in the comments clearly works, I will mention again Mdou Moctar - really exciting guitarist and singer/songwriter from Niger. I have seen him referred to as 'Saharan Hendrix' which doesn't quite cover his sound but isn't too far off the mark. His album 'Funeral for Justice' from last year is great, and I have a hunch that Justin will love his sound.
I suggest this is a good video to react to. It's a couple of years old, and more recent music videos are available, but this is a live performance which ups the excitement. Plus, WHAT a drummer!! ua-cam.com/video/q0lPeQA2hu4/v-deo.html
Been a little obsessed with this guy for the past couple months since I saw 'I'm a song" pop up in my algorithm - AMAZING song. He's right up my street from my grunge teenage years to my now older appreciation for alt country. Also love how he attacks the guitar (would probably not let him use my own acoustic tho !!!) - he switches between a few open tunings - Something I enjoy in my own songwriting. Love how he sings with his mouth almost closed (similar to Cornell). My only criticism is he could have cut some of the fat on that 22 song album and made an amazing one half that length. First world problems eh? Anyways - Check out the whole Live at the Print Shop performance - particularly the last 2 acoustic songs - including a unique cover of "Stand by Me" - and also "Holler from the Holler" on his album - can really hear an Alice in Chains influence on there. I haven't been this excited about an artist in a while.
SWJ on repeat since discovering on 12/24/24...currently on heavy rotation is Calico Creek (Print Shop). Madison and Blake were instant royalty as soon as I discovered them years ago!!!
I saw Stephen Wilson Jr in 2022 when he supported Brothers Osborne (please check out the solo from Stay a little longer' by them, from the Live at the Rymn album) it was just SWJ with Scotty Murray his brilliant lap steel player it was amazing.
Fantastic song and artist, and great breakdown as always, Would just like to add Colter Wall to that list, along with Billy strings as both have been getting smashed on my playlist at the moment.
So glad you took a look at this guy. I love this album. Please do the Brothers Osborne songs Shoot Me Straight. John is one of my favorite guitar players out there right now. He can lay down a groove.
I hear Springsteen From straight off the hop But I am an old fart My ears ,at times, only hear what they want Thank you kindly for the introduction to this gentleman s work Slainte
Love his voice! Another good one this channel has introduced me too. I'm not sure about the idea of a daily cry - I did used to know an elderly chap who swore by a daily pie though.
I think the description may be off a little. He sounds more like Eddie Veder to me. Have you ever reviewed. L.P. ? She's written many hits and has been around a while now. She does that vowely roll with her voice also. I told her to stop doing that when she would sing in our living room as a teen. Shows what I know.😅
Love to hear a jj cale song breakdown.... drum machines and all! Wish I had not said that or call me the breeze I believe it's a crime more people don't know lynrd skinnynerd didn't write that tune
I've noticed a lot acoustic guitars with bare unvarnished patches on them lately. I've started to wonder if it's an affectation in some cases (no offense to Jelly Roll).
YES, Great to see Stephen Wilson Jr. getting the recognition he deserves. What an incredible artist, especially live!
Always cool to see one creator I subscribe to commenting on another creator's video who I subscribe to haha. I'm starting to dig Stephen Wilson Jr. as well.
He sucks.
@@jeff1872t hopefully you mean me that sucks as Stephen Wilson Jr is a true artist
@@DamianKeyes No, I have nothing against you. True artist put on fake ass country accents?
@jeff1872t This is from someone who can't sing or even play a musical instrument.

Stephen’s awesome! We used to wait tables together in Nashville.
Best lyrics of the year ! Every song on this album will make you think of your life . 1st album and hes 44 years old. A shining star in my soul !

Been listening to him for a few weeks. He’s incredible
So happy to see this, been waiting for this episode for a long time! Been lucky enough to see Stephen AND The Darkness live in the past year!❤️👌

Year to be young 1994. Great song by Stephen.

ABOUT DANG TIME Stephen started getting the recognition he deserves. Thank you Mr.Justin !!!
What a great artist! Thanks for the reco Hawkins! All the best!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees do more of his songs. This was the first of his I heard and I cried like a small child almost the whole song.
I’ve been banging on about SWJ in the comments so thanks for featuring him. It took me a short while to get used to his voice but his songs and lyrics are so good.
His voice is of the two Chrises - Cornell and Stapleton. Love it. Also... Gruntry subgenre?
Yes much better than cunge
Seen SWJr live twice last year and the guy is amazing.
Me too. He's awesome
I've been following Stephen's career for the past 5 years. So happy to see you cover him 🖤😀

Tree Colors - Travis Meeks……the rabbit hole goes deeper. 🤘🏻
I saw a video of this guy the other day and holy hell, great stuff.
All his acoustic performances are great to watch and listen too.
Saw Stephen Wilson Jr a few months ago and he was superb. And very humble.
Thanks again for shining a spotlight on an artist I wouldn't otherwise come across. Lovely song!
Respect. Stephen is one of my favourites.

Stephen Wilson Jnr is amazing at covers, both his versions of Stand By Me and Something In The Way are phenomenal!
Get Your Buzz On - Cadillac Three. Awesome song, good band too!!!

thought the exact same thing, and also thought that Justin stopped the video too many times.
@@thomasbusy3632 well, I watch these videos to hear Justin's thoughts, so he can stop as many times as he'd like. The original is in the description.

Seen him a couple times warming up for The Cadillac Three and he is incredible…..
Love Stephen Wilson Jr...great song, great album!
Saw him in London he’s great!!
At last!!! Thank you
I love different tunings, even tune standard down a whole tone and like a wound 3rd string on electric and acoustics
Love SWJ… his album is amazing all the way through. His acoustic performances are just as good as his plugged in. Great song writing.

Jon Gomm is the modern master of acoustic guitar and is a beautiful singer too. Well worth a reaction.
dear Jussy, please do yourself a favor and check out the alt-tuning brilliance of mr. Tyler Ramsey. his latest is New Lost Ages. (and he's a giant)
YOU LOOK MARVELOUS!!!
Justin did you purposley choose that guitar as it matches Stephens hat?
Stephen Wilson Jr can definitely write them!
Prince of Wales check is one of the classiest patterns for a suit ever...congrats!
JH's recent looks have been really nice to me eyes
Oh! Looking all dapper!
If you're like me, the eyes have been lost on the battlefield of time.

Hey Justin, I know you are a Paul McCartney fan. How about introducing some of the young'ins to McCartney live with his band Wings.
Mark Lanegan was better than all these folks. 🤷♀He deserves an episode. Check out the "Whiskey for the Holy Ghost" album.
YES
I learned a version on my mandolin. My mandolin now has tear-streaks all down it.
See him live. A showman dare I say 😎
Check out his cover of Stand By Me
Chris Whitley hugely underrated
Now PLEASE do his cover of Stand By Me and/or his original song I’m A Song (Print Shop version)
Love his voice! Another good one this channel has introduced me too. I'm not sure about the idea of a daily cry - I did used to know an elderly chap who swore by a daily pie though.
Was he from Wigan?
@CoconutHerder Close...Bolton 😂
Roundt' corner then.😂 @@ZuzuTheLemon

The return of Justin Spockins! 😉
Love the suit Justin.
……and somehow the genius of Travis Meeks escapes the masses…..would be wild to try and see you crack that Rubik’s cube….
I like the guitar, Justin is playing. Beautiful instrument. Does anyone of you know more details about it and would like to share them with me? 🙏🏼
“I’m a song” is probably my favorite of his…..🤯
Madison Cunningham is an insane guitar player
Wilson Junior could be the new singer of the e street Band. When the Boss is gone.
kind of reminds me of the editors, more specifically smokers outside the hospital doors
Love to hear a jj cale song breakdown.... drum machines and all!
Wish I had not said that or call me the breeze
I believe it's a crime more people don't know lynrd skinnynerd didn't write that tune
Man, I would love you to cover some John Martyn - For me, he sits alongside Nick Drake as my biggest acoustic influences.
Papyrus.......... THE AUDACITY! But I do dig the new title, Grungtry
I am a song is one of his best its a song from the perspective of the song genius
I thought I was over at Steve Buscemi rides again for a second there
Justin, other than tuning, what effects do you think he is using, pedals, etc?
“I’m a song” would’ve been a great pick as well
I'm on the Ice, Damn it man where are you?? Great video, though before you mentioned Chris Cornell I had Bruce Springsteen in my head. Merci.
I can't believe he didn't get inspired by Uncle Tupelo given his local and genre.
I've noticed a lot acoustic guitars with bare unvarnished patches on them lately. I've started to wonder if it's an affectation in some cases (no offense to Jelly Roll).
So the tuning is DD & ????
Another one I've never heard of, so we'll see what this is then 🙂
Nice, mellow song...
Side note... my Dad was a boxer.... my mum was a German shepherd.... ahem....
May I say how great you look in that suit??
