My research involves TO and I hope that people don't get misconceptions from it:
- The geometry it gives you is not guaranteed to be globally optimum, various factors can cause it to fall into a locally optimum solution
- the wavyness of the surfaces is an artefact of the smoothing process from the mesh, not actually an optimal feature
- for example, there is no way that spline shape at 23:40 is optimal, a simple triangle would be just as good. I think this shape is caused by the elements being too big to get enough detail.
Good design engineer. Great aesthetic sense. Good educator too! Many thanks for making and posting.
Thank you for a great comment and for watching. It's our pleasure to bring these videos to the public.
very well explained, thank you so much :) keep doing this.
Very helpful tutorial, I will be applying it pretty soon on one of my designs! Thanks! :)
Thanks wonderful! Thanks for turning to our channel.
BEST VIDEO....FANTASTIC straight to the point....
Thank you for your comment!
Great video for the great tool 'topology'
I really like the optimization of geometry, I have tried it in separate piesas. I can not do it on an assembly in solidwork using the forces resulting from other pieces on it. Do you know if it is possible? what do you recomend. the geometry of my work is somewhat complicated, it takes parts in movement
Great video, massively helped me with my CAD project at uni
Thanks for watching, Ben. We're happy to hear it helped you.
I am working out with the hydraulic manifold block design optimization for additive manufacturing. But getting difficulty after doing topology how to create final shape from toplology Opti. Design.? For complex components.!
Hello Aravind, can you let me know how do i so the simulation in solidworks wherein the loads are of different magnitude and acting in opposite direction??
Very helpful video!!
thank you GoEngineer!!!!
You're welcome. Thank you for watching.
great job, thank you so much for teaching this really really I appreciate it
Solidworks is my favourite.....I think this is one of the best and most user friendly CAD software.
Alguém pode me informar se o SOLIDWORKS 2017 possui esta função? o meu é 2017 e não estou encontrado a topológica apenas a de forma.
அருமை. வாழ்த்துக்கள் சகோ.
CLEAR &&&&&&&&&&& CLEAR explanation.
Thanks a lot for the best tutorial....................
We are glad to help, thank you! 😊
Thank you for this video (Y)
thank you ...
You are amazing dude
Great video
Does anyone have a link to the A.G. Mitchell paper for the maximum strain lines by chance? I'd like to read more about it but am having trouble finding it on Google. I'm designing mounting for the rear wing of a student built race car using topology optimization and am seeing results that resemble the lines on the plot shown at the begging of he video. It would be cool to see if there is an equation that defines each of these curves.

Just saw this. Here is a link to my research work where I reference the paper
mza aa gya bhai dekh k aur smajh k
thank you for this video! very informative
You're so welcome!
topology optimization n geometry design r the future

Thank you so much for that interesting and rich video 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
cool stuff
Amazing content creation.
Thank you for noticing and for watching.
multi material feature where please?
Very helpful video keep it up the good work 🙌
Glad it was helpful!
excelente
Thankyou so much
You are so welcome!
I appreciate it, but I can't see it for the moment being used outside of aeronautics and racing applications. The costs associated with removing extra material can not the justified in most cases. Nevertheless, it is so exciting to see optimization in action, the cool factor is there!
Everyday there are more and more options for additive manufacturing and the topology studies can allow us to do some pretty amazing things using 3d printing. This actually gives us a net benefit in the opposite manner, because we do not have to worry about material removal but instead only using the least amount of material that we can.
amazing good job, thanks
Glad you liked it!
Great Video!
Thank you. We are glad to help!
thank you
Thanks for watching.
Hello, thanks for the video. For me, it seems that your boundary conditions are false. The flexion of a tripod leg is on the opposite side. Am I wrong ?

great optimize !!
Thanks!
Great Video
Thanks for watching!
Helpful Tutorial. But to Anyone in this one should could consider other manufacturing options like laser/water cutting out of a sheet. If cost is also an important factor.
ua-cam.com/video/IangXACFW48/v-deo.html.
How good dies it apply to fdm 3d printing? Does it understand the limited strength on the z axis(layer bonding)
probably no.
It is a useful for 3D printing, but soldiworks does not at this time have a way of differentiating the material strength based on the layer bonding.
hi, nice tutorial!!! congrats!!! solidwrorks version using in the tutorial?
Thank you. It looks like the presenter was using SOLIDWORKS Premium 2018.
brilliant
Thanks for watching.
very cool

Cool, but like everything else, its just one tool. This only works where weight is more important than cost. The simpler the shape, the cheaper to produce. Also you started from a fixed design - making the part straight instead of kinked for instance would have enabled it to be simpler yet. Can Solidworks do generative design yet just specifying the load paths and it designs the part?
Thank you for the comment Spinnetti. ua-cam.com/video/E-PMMLGbEGY/v-deo.html this is another video I did on optimizing for manufacturing cost using SOLIDWORKS. Check it out and let me know what you think.
how did you make your sketch in different configuration after simulation display?
All of the features exist in every configuration you can control what is suppressed or active in each configuration so even if the sketches where added in a different config they can be turned on in a different config just by unsupressing them in that configuration.
@@goengineer Thank you for making our job easy:)
I didn't have that extra configuration at 23.27! Anyone know why?
I believe your question was based on an expectation that the topology study would automatically create new CAD geometry to represent the optimized shape. I personally haven’t seen a topology optimization simulation tool that can do that. Most tools will have a graphic overlay as shown here.
There are some topology tools on the market that can fill a volume with a defined pattern, which are useful for 3D Printing. Topology technology is growing fast! Thanks for watching our video on what’s available within SOLIDWORKS.
is there a way to automate the sketching?
There is no way to automate the sketching in the current release of SOLIDWORKS.
Can you help me with a Topology Study to a part in Solidworks 2022?
Unfortunately the comment section is not a great place for training. You should be able to reach out to your reseller to get training and support.

Why exactly did you constrain the bottom hole to be fix? Your entire topology optimization is around the fact that you screw the bottom hole against the wall or something ...
Ultimately the topology study is relying on a linear static simulation. So in order for it to solve we have to have fixed geometry. Look to the beginning of the presentation again we are looking at the best and most efficient ways to transmit a load from its source to a fixed point.
but also is to much expensive than original. The cost-benefit of the new design should be analyzed.
