Actually, I think what was on the minds of the marshals was:- 1) How far behind was the next competitor? (ie were any of these nutters going to get run over?) 2) Is the car damaged in any way? (ie are any of these nutters going to get blown up along with the car?) Once they found out that OK, the next competitor is miles back and no, there isn't a fuel leak that's going to toast anyone whose family members will sue the organisers for negligence, they thought OK, we'll let the spectators help out.

I dont follow rally much, so please correct me if I am wrong. I think the marshalls were trying to keep people from helping the vehicle at the end because it put people in danger of being hurt since there was still vehicles running the track

Those marshals are really aggressive and don't understand the rally tradition of spectators helping stuck cars... yes, safety is important but they could have just watched over the process and warn people of incoming cars.
I strongly support the fans and the drivers safety because it is a very dangerous sport, but images like that are a shame. There is a main reason because the rally is so intense, unlike other supports, here the fans actually make a role and it is very important for the drivers and for the sport in overall. With caution, I support that people help the drivers in situation like that! I bet there isn't any motosport company like VW, Citroen, Ford, etc, that wants to spend so much money if there isn't passionate crowd of fans!

A quick push from a few spectators can mean the difference between losing and winning a rally - it's always been that way. If the car was on fire or something, I might understand, but it wasn't..

Rally is probably the most awesome Motorsport. The amount of abuse to vehicles and skills from the driver is unbelievable. And yeah I agree those guards are a bunch of asshole who take their job way too seriously. Good thing the people still went out there and won in the end.
The marshals at the car stuck in the ditch (11. mins) are being totally out of order, the best thing for them to do would of been warn cars coming into that section of corners to slow down. Competitors spend massive amounts of money to get to get to these events, and for the marshals to take it upon them selves to potentially ruin a good result for a crew by stopping people from helping get the car out again is absolutely ridiculous! There was clearly no damage to the car at all as it was simply stuck in a muddy ditch!

Never seen the marshals act like that! Part of the draw is spectator participation! Yes it is dangerous but it is there choice.
I have not been watching anywhere near enough rally, who says motor racing isn't a spectator sport?
