Very nice!! I was truly blown away by this car. It really solidified my love for the XLR's. I'm very glad that you like yours! It was a 68 Fleetwood, which I still have, 38 years later. I also drive a 2014 CTS sedan, since 2015. In addition, I have a 71 Coupe de Ville, 83 Fleetwood coupe and a 78 de Ville convertible by ACC. To me the XLR is the sportscar companion to a 2000's Chrysler 300C sedan. They both have a sort of "gangster car" look. I don't remember the year but I saw my first Cadillac XLR outside the Cadillac tent at the Amelia Island Concourse de Elegance, which was also the first time I ever sat in one.
Great point! This car definitely has a special look to it that I love. And that's awesome you saw one at Amelia Island! I went there for the first time earlier this year and thought it was a fantastic show. Thanks for watching the video!

James I have to agree with you on comparison between how the styling of the Mercedes and the Cadillac have aged, I believe the "art and science " design language is the best choice that they made with these modern cars.
The big reason people gripe on the North Star over the LS is because it’s duel overhead cam and considerably more complex then the relatively simple pushrod LS with at least twice as many moving parts. This puts the north stars reliability in question and history has shown that this is the case. The XLR to many people was seen by many people as an over priced rebodied corvette with a less powerful, less reliable engine that was more difficult to work on. The XLR was also never offered with a factory manual option which killed the car for many enthusiasts and made it lacking in driving experience compared to its rivals

not to pigeonhole these wonderful cars, but living in WA and CO I never really saw them, although always liked them, even more than the contemporary Vette. Then, some family moved to the Florida Gulf Coast, and there it was positively littered with them...women of a certain age in all those gated communities really gravitated to them, as well as Corvette roadsters and the final gen TBird roadster. Was great to see these beautiful cars, and how one niche market was really satisfied. However, I, as a man, would also love to have one
I definitely don't see them too often, they are a rare bird in some areas. But you're right, these things are a dime a dozen in Florida! But that doesn't surprise me too much haha. I would definitely love to have one of these too! Thank you for watching the video, Steve 😁

Thank you!! Ooh that's awesome, I'd love to check out that video once it's up! I bet it is super rare in Europe. I bet it gets a lot of attention though!
Nice and interesting review of the car's features! That's great how you demonstrate functions of the car - you study the vehicle in details when watching the review! But also I love Sl-Class :) XLR is one of the unique cars in worldwide automotive history - which hadn't got so many sales, but distinctive and interesting! I'm your new subscriber from Russia and it's the second video that I watched on your youtube channel. Go on and make new videos! :)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked learning about the features of the XLR. It definitely is unique and a very fun car! And I am a fan of the SL as well, it is a superb car. Thanks again, I really appreciate the support and am glad I have a subscriber from Russia 😁
Hi James, I am new to the channel and I love this car. Great review. It is good to see how the power convertible roof works. Great job on doing this review.
It's been a long time since I rocked'n'rolled....That theme song from their adds were real catchy to attract younger buyers into Cadillac showrooms but unfortunately that didn't quite occurred. Just like you I immediately fell in love with the stealth line of that car when it came out but at the time I wasn't there yet. So it stayed a dream car. Now a few years later, I have one of my customers, an 83 years old friendly gentlemen which I see once a year to prepare his income tax report and chit chat a bit, telling me he could no longer be driving because of health issues offers to sell me his car because he knew from our discussions I loved that car so much... Without hesitation I ask him to wait a few hours to let me go to the bank and come back with a check. That was last May and since then I have an ABSOLUTE BLAST with my new toy/old car 2004 XLR just as silver as yours....
That's true! Just about every Cadillac ad from this time had rock and roll music in it. Definitely a good attempt to attract younger buyers. That's fantastic you now have your very own XLR! You must be having a blast with that car 😁 There is so much potential to have fun with it. Thanks for watching the video!
James, I also LOVE Cadillacs ❤️ 💕 … The XLR is also one of my favorite Caddy’s. I’m surprised how many other car guys didn’t know anything about the E L R (their loss 🥺)…Like how can that be? I own a 2014 Caddy XTS-4, metallic red and it still makes my knees weak when I go out into my garage and see it. Your love of cars is infectious! 😎
That's awesome!!! I'm glad you love Cadillacs and the XLR! I'm glad you brought the ELR up, I think that is another fantastic looking car. I think Cadillac does a fantastic job at designing their coupes (XLR, ELR, CTS Coupe, Eldorado's, etc.). Ooh that is a fantastic color for the XTS. We really love our XTS, it's also a fantastic looking car. Haha, I'm glad my enthusiasm and love of these cars is infectious 😁 Thank you so much for the comment and for watching the video, Greg!
Great review James! Beautiful example! Your drone shots are awesome! A friend had a 2004 in Xenon Blue, he loved it, but he ended up selling it due to the fact he could not get parts for it any more. Really sad, it was really cool. He said they were all they same except for the XLR_V. I don't know what folks do who own them. Call Jay Leno and have him manufacture a part I guess...crazy.
Thank you so so much! The drone shots are some of my favorite 😁 Yep, parts can be very difficult and expensive for these cars which is a big shame... They are great cars and so much fun, just expensive to own
@@JW_Reviews They are movie /commercial quality! I have to get one, you have a 2nd person running it as you by drive- I'd guess? Or can you control it as you drive? Do you have a make/model you can recommend? BTW, I emailed you at your gmail address :-)
Drones are so much fun and are great for anyone who wants to see what the world looks like from the sky 😁 That's correct, my dad drives the vehicles while I'm nearby flying the drone. I would HIGHLY recommend DJI drones. I use an older DJI Phantom 3 drone, but the DJI's Mavic drones are much smaller, more portable, are easier to fly (sensors prevent the drone from crashing into objects), and offer a similar level of quality. Some are also cheaper too. Great! I'll have to double check my email and see if I received it, it occasionally puts mail into the junk folder
Only a Cadillac,,,,, My first was a 1988 Eldorado Biarittz, Moon roof white /white and maroon interior. I still own this car. Never winter driven. My next Cadillac is the 2011 Escalade Base. Quade black leather interior, very cheap to maintain. The XLR is on my list.
Very nice!! It sounds like it's in fantastic shape, and I love that color combo. Hopefully you'll find an XLR someday 😁 Thank you for watching the video, Jerome!
Nice and informative video. I do have about three questions for you…Do you own all these Cadillac’s? Or, do you borrow these from friends and relatives? Just curious. Any plans on reviewing older Cadillac’s, like from the 50’s and 60’s, or even the early 1970’s?
Thank you, Byron! Good questions. I've owned a couple of these cars, but most of them are from family/friends. And I've definitely wanted to review Cadillacs from those eras, but they can be hard to find... I'll definitely bring some from those eras someday though!
Well James your video gave us the impression this was your car. Until I read some comments. I was about to ask you if you intended to keep the car. I know that I would. Like you I have always been impressed with this car. One of the features on all Cadillacs that I really like is the magnetic suspension. I think that the missing backup camera is a mistake. So how many miles were on the car that you tested? There are some features that you seem to think were only on this car. When in fact that is not the case. I own a 2006 STS 4. The heads up display was available but I don't have it. The navigation system for example has an awful design. I use the GPS on my cellphone because of it. My last car had the North star which I loved with one exception, it was prone to leaking oil. It actually got better gas mileage than the 6 cylinder that I have now. Well thank you for the tour.
I was debating on this vs sc430....I choose the Lexus ,only reason was because if the complaints on the roof flying off the car when your driving because of the glue they used and gm isn't recalling it ,it's a shame cause the car is so nice
Very nice! I see those Lexus models around every once in a while. They look like fun and seem very unique. And that's a good point! It's definitely important for XLR owners to check the glue holding down the roof. It would not be a cheap thing to replace... Thank you for watching the video!
James another nice video. I have a question, are these Cadillacs on loan to you for your video or are they owned by your family? A bid unusual for a young man to like Caddies. They are great cars, even though I moved from Cadillacs to MB, now have the S class coupé. Also many young men don’t wear watches, you have an Apple Watch on your right arm and don’t recognize the watch on your left arm….Fred
Thank you! Good question. Most of the cars I've filmed are either owned by friends, Cadillac club members, or family members. I've actually been fortunate enough to buy and sell a few cars which I've also had on the channel. And I really like Mercedes Benz! I haven't had much first hand experience with them though... And I actually just saw a new S550 coupe for the first time today, and I've got to say that it is a beautiful car! Must be rare too... Ah, I'm impressed that you noticed the watches! Yes, I do wear an Apple watch. The other watch was handed down to me from my dad. It is an Omega Seamaster DeVille which my dad received in 1970 for his first communion. He now wears his fathers watch which is why he handed it down to me.
The changes they made to the 2009, for the most part, look great. I don't like the front end of either iteration, however. The Cadillac ELR is a more beautiful car.
The Cadillac DeVille offered cooled seats for 2004, the same year the XLR came out. I like both of these but I think the DeVille would be more practical by far. It would be pretty interesting to see all my friends in Corollas and Civics then show up in a Cadillac V8 roadster lol
I really wish you had wagged it hard when that branch was there.. or even without it. One of the first things I would do on a test drive is a couple hard turns.. like avoiding something.
3:43 - Cadillac made the same mistakes Plymouth and Chrysler made with the Prowler. They produced one hell of a beautiful car that was underpowered, not too practical and as a result, low production run and didn't sell as well.
Nice review, always liked the XLR from a design point I would have the XLR over a Merc. SL. Only issue is it has a Northstar, at about 90-100K miles it will cost you a bundle for oil and other Nothstar inherited problem's.
Thank you! I agree, I think the Northstar looks much better than the SL's of this era. And that's true, but the good thing is that the major issues of the Northstar would have been fixed at this point. And many XLR's are babied and not driven which probably helps as well. Thank you for watching the video!
An excellent review of a great car however… Got to disagree with you on the LS motor. It would’ve been A marriage made in engineering heaven. Powerful versatile and best of all tunable and I think a lot more people would’ve probably bought the car because of that fact alone.… Keep on rockin
You're very welcome! That's true, I guess maybe they figured that some people wouldn't want/need all the performance upgrades that came with them, but the XLR-V is my favorite. If you haven't checked it out already, I actually just made a video on an XLR-V!
Hey JW dude I think you made the best review on XLR model, but you used the word "xlr" like fife thousands times. Do a review on latest production XLR-V model .Keep on doing good work.
It is quite rare and one of my favorites! And I would also prefer an XLR over a Corvette. It is such a comfortable, unique, and fun car! Thanks for watching, Tom 😁
I wonder if GM got their features from SAAB 9-5, or the other way around? I am not an enthusiast of GM because of how they destroyed SAAB, and they made a mess of OPEL!
My name is Trantham. Pronounced "tran-thumb" (-; I have always liked the XLR as well as the Corvette(owned two). Both built on the same assembly line in Bowling Green, Ky.
I have mixed feelings about the 2009 updates. I like the side vents, but the grille in person looks cheap to me, like the chrome bits are too stuck on. Ialso like the Bulgari instrument cluster and metal interior trim better. The font on the Bulgari gauges was unique. The 2009 font looks like too many other cars on the road.
I heard a story similar to that one on inside edition but the man had a corvette with an electric door handle that died bc of the battery and he and his dog died in the car ☹️
That's too bad that his dog passed away in the car, it's definitely a problem that can happen pretty often. Too bad! Thanks for watching the video, Franklin 😁
@@JW_Reviews there’s an emergency release inside the car at the bottom of each door. It’s not possible to be locked in the because of a dead battery. There have been people who have been “trapped” in the car who never read the owners manual. It’s a large pull handle on the floor by the door with a big red diagram on it. First time I drove one I mistakenly pulled it rather than pushing the little button on the door.
Too expensive to maintain not worth it in the long run no matter how rich you are, beautiful car and a good attempt on Cadillac’s part. Really wish they would try something like this again
It definitely is difficult to maintain, hopefully some people will get lucky with them and not have to do major repairs. I would love for Cadillac to make a sporty car like the XLR again! Thanks for watching 😁
I can definitely see where you're coming from. It probably could have been better if they reshaped the body work there or something, but I'm still a fan of how it looks. I think it makes the side of the car look all the more unique! Thank you for watching the video, Richard 😁
I too, understand that feeling of the love U feel for this 2009 XLR! I fell in 😍 with the XLR when I laid 👀 on the 2004. I refer to the XLR as, “It makes my baby leap”! 🥰. I’ve owned an Escalade since 2004, and would love to add this 2009 to calm my leaping baby down inside of me, but I’m concerned about the availability and high cost of parts. Don’t you think this is something any potential buyer should seriously consider?
It's definitely an easy car to fall in love with! It is just incredible. And that's a great question concerning reliability issues. It is definitely a concern if you're planning on owning one of these cars and driving it a lot, but there are several things to keep in mind. For example, many of these XLR's are low mileage cars and taken good care of because they are summer/collectible/expensive cars for their day. Although, when things do go wrong (such as the hard top or broken taillights/headlights) things can get expensive so as long as you're prepared for one of those rare circumstances then I think owning one of these cars would be easy to do. Thank you for watching the video!
If they have produced the car exactly like they show car, it would have been a big hit. On the production car they really messed up the grill and whole front end.
I own a 2007 XLR--- they are durable and well engineered, and as James reports, the magnetic ride provides a superb ride.

Thank you!! Ooh that's awesome, I'd love to check out that video once it's up! I bet it is super rare in Europe. I bet it gets a lot of attention though!
@@JW_Reviews you welcome .... my video is also out now, but its 2004 :))
@@MONEYHONEYPRAGUEvideos Very nice! I’ll be sure to check it out 😄
Nice and interesting review of the car's features!
Welcome to the channel, Joe! I'm glad you like the car and the video. Thank you so much for the support!
I really liked the Allante and your socks are da bomb! 👍
Haha thank you, Zach!!
I really enjoyed this review! Thank you very much.
I have always loved those cars
So have I! They're so under-appreciated and fantastic cars. Thanks for watching the video, Freddy!

Awesome review. I have always loved this car. Nice to learn more about it.
My mom had the ELR in Red! I LOVED it then and LOVE them still! 😍
@@JW_Reviews Excellent- thanks for that recommendation - I'm clueless on them, so very helpful James!
Excellent video, but it was so long that your beard grew in even thicker by the end! 😂
Great review; my dream car as well. Thank you for sharing. :)
Thanks, Michael! I'm glad you like the car and the video 😎
I own a well-sorted '04. Great car.
One the hunt for one of these.
42:25 mid engine xlr would probably look like cadillac cien which is another great looking cadillac
That's probably very true! It would have been so neat to see a production XLR like the Cien. Maybe someday... Thanks for watching!
I think it does have power folding mirrors, there is a trick to doing it. You have to stick the mirror control in the middle I'm pressed down twice.
Available on export only cars sadly.
You have to fold them in manually
You can put the top down with a remote control, while you are outside the car.
Can you please give your height? I’m 6’ and would love to know how I would fit in the vehicle. I do not find the corvette comfortable
Well thank you for the tour.
the only reason I'm here is bc there is someone who lives near me who actually has two! very rare and super cool
That is really neat! I hope they like their XLR's, I think they're fantastic 😁 Thanks for watching!
I wish windshields were more vertical - the edge is so close to the driver's head.
Good point! The sun visors were very close to my head at some points which was uncomfortable. Thank you for watching the video, Jay!
Wow they really took Ford's concept of the New Edge Mustang to heart
3:43 - Cadillac made the same mistakes Plymouth and Chrysler made with the Prowler. They produced one hell of a beautiful car that was underpowered, not too practical and as a result, low production run and didn't sell as well.
It's obvious that you and your family have been very blessed and successful (-:
Nice review, always liked the XLR from a design point I would have the XLR over a Merc. SL.
Only issue is it has a Northstar, at about 90-100K miles it will cost you a bundle for oil and other Nothstar inherited problem's.
Thank you! I agree, I think the Northstar looks much better than the SL's of this era. And that's true, but the good thing is that the major issues of the Northstar would have been fixed at this point. And many XLR's are babied and not driven which probably helps as well. Thank you for watching the video!
Wrong, my Northstar is at 255k miles without receiving anything more than oil changes. ZERO maintenance in 255k miles
@@stanleymasterson1135 Yes, I'm aways wrong! Thanks.
@@stanleymasterson1135 sir we need to talk! I’m consider buying an 08’ but it has 107 on it. Beautiful ride but I’m shook. What say u?
The mirrors are power folding on the European export model.
That's very interesting! I wonder if law required for them to be power folding in Europe?
An excellent review of a great car however… Got to disagree with you on the LS motor. It would’ve been A marriage made in engineering heaven. Powerful versatile and best of all tunable and I think a lot more people would’ve probably bought the car because of that fact alone.… Keep on rockin
Thanks for showing us this car I didnt know much about them. I thought they should have made them all V-Series because they where special cars 🚗
You're very welcome! That's true, I guess maybe they figured that some people wouldn't want/need all the performance upgrades that came with them, but the XLR-V is my favorite. If you haven't checked it out already, I actually just made a video on an XLR-V!
@@JW_Reviews I'll be sure to look for it
Hey JW dude
I think you made the best review on XLR model, but you used the word "xlr" like fife thousands times. Do a review on latest production XLR-V model .Keep on doing good work.
I never knew of these still being built in 2009 and needless to say, I never seen one of these.
The 2009's are extremely rare and hard to find, I'm not surprised you hadn't seen one before. Thank you so much for watching the video, Wade!
It is a beautiful car
I love it!
Did GM fix all the issues with the North Star motor?
Somewhere between the '04 and '05 model year they fixed the head gasket issue.
I know Buick had heads up displays in the early 80s
That's amazing! I knew that Oldsmobiles had them but I didn't realize Buick's did too. Very cool!
What do I have to do to get this car?
This car is rare, I've always liked cadillac, I have a 2009 cts and have had several caddilacs period, this I'd rather have than a corvette
It is quite rare and one of my favorites! And I would also prefer an XLR over a Corvette. It is such a comfortable, unique, and fun car! Thanks for watching, Tom 😁
I thought the XRL was a most beautiful Cadillac that was made I wish I could own one
I agree! I LOVE the looks of the XLR. Such a nice and special vehicle. Thank you for watching!
I wonder if GM got their features from SAAB 9-5, or the other way around? I am not an enthusiast of GM because of how they destroyed SAAB, and they made a mess of OPEL!
Amazing how much of this car is a Corvette. If it had an LS in it, I would buy one.
How much is the asking price on this vehicle?
Nice. They were Luxury Corvettes.
Does it have the crappy North Star motor?
My name is Trantham. Pronounced "tran-thumb" (-; I have always liked the XLR as well as the Corvette(owned two). Both built on the same assembly line in Bowling Green, Ky.
Nice-a-nice. 😉
I can tell from the wear on the drivers seat that the previous owner/owners wore western belts.
The one time GM made a Corvette off-spring...for production.
I'd love to see another one someday... Thanks for watching the video! 😁
Beautiful cars, and can be found cheap, but price of parts scares me.
How much?
I want 20 Cadillac xlr
I certainly do too! Thank you for watching the video, Daniel!
They took care of it.....makes a big difference., wasn't suppose to be a luxury Corvette?
That's true! Definitely a VERY luxurious version of the Corvette. Thank you for watching the video, Dennis!
@@JW_Reviews no problem I look forward to more of your content in the future. :)
“ I love this car there isn’t anything like it”.
Corvette :😢
🤠
The fake vents on the fenders look like a horrible after thought, totally ruins the smooth look of the side.
I can definitely see where you're coming from. It probably could have been better if they reshaped the body work there or something, but I'm still a fan of how it looks. I think it makes the side of the car look all the more unique! Thank you for watching the video, Richard 😁
This is my dream cough. I was thinking about getting, but the price has dropped. I made it.
All your opinion
What’s an ngine???
I would of ls swap that in a heartbeat.
Hudson Brook
If they have produced the car exactly like they show car, it would have been a big hit. On the production car they really messed up the grill and whole front end.
