Yeh it's really stupid when he does this sort of thing. All too often. He sticks to this idea of a meme or sum'n, but I thought pros were supposed to be really calculated and adaptive. Do they only play smart when it's a proper tournament?
I think its fun! It would be boring if they always do the obvious choices and never try anything weird

Not to mention Britons don't really have an easy counter to eagles, elephants and rams, so even if he wanted to, it wouldn't have made a difference. Best he could've done would be champs + halbs, and would still die to mobility or a switch to plumes/arbs by the mayan.
Sure, it may entertain him, and amuse some viewers, but what's the point in playing if not to win. I don't enjoy games being thrown. He could have done much better in this match. As I said in another comment. He stopped caring about eco for a long time. Why even begin if you don't wish to finish well and show that you are the best. All too often he is doing this. There's a difference between trying new things and having fun with it, and being just flat out daft, throwing the match when as a pro should know better.
@@hadleybayley3870 What he did wasn't necessarily wrong. Ultimately until the very end of the game it was just vivi vs viper in which case if he goes 2H swords vivi goes arbs or plume. With Abu getting into the game and going cav it makes sense to diversify the army. The mistake would be that he underestimated how weak and fragile his allies were and good of a situation his opponents were in. That is max was never able to recover, Abu got raided to death while lyx boomed into the game big.

I like how Viper clicks like crazy for no reason. The lumberjack is all like, "Cho-cho-chop-chopper" every 4 seconds.
A lot of RTS players do this, it's so that when they actually get to moments when they need 200+ apm they're "warmed up".

the longbows actually appear to have done really well against the eagles/elephants (look at that KDR!) it's just Viper was playing 2v4 for the majority of the game
The problem was that 20 elephants could run past 60 longbows and take out a castle. His KD wasn't so good because the longbows were the right unit, it was that good because the longbows were so ineffective that the enemy army ignored them and went for the castles instead.
@@SemiMono I mean archery units arent supposed to be effective against heavy cavalry(elephants) or eagles. Longbows are mostly effective against infantry and generic archers
@@dirkauditore8413 Absolutely correct. Archers CAN be useful against cavalry if they are supported with a meat shield, but they aren't a counter.
Yeah, the enemies could have just gone Hussar spam to kill all the longbows (I mean, they had enough resources to make Battle elephants!)
As you sling resources I can almost hear your voice "I always ask myself, what, can I do for my team!"
I would build a maze with walls to funnel my enemy into a "kill box". It's surprisingly effective.

Watching this after Day 3 of Hidden Cup 4, and the "sec" coupled with the fact that the player tried to do a greedy Byzantine fast imp has me convinced that Admiral Yi is TheViper.
There are some things that one should not cheap out on. A good chair is one of them. Also, something people seem to overlook, is the desk. You will have it for 10+years so spend some money on a good one.
I really wish I had invested in a good chair a decade ago. I and my back regret it deeply.

You think mayan eagles are strong against longbows? The longbow's damage actually falls in the small range (10-12 pierce attack) where incan eagles are stronger. Incans laugh at puny mayan eagles who only take 34 shots to go down when Incan eagles take 60.

I thought 2-3 groups of 60 longbows was how you're _supposed_ to play brits. The only counter is bombard cannons.
"only counter"? Equal numbers of skirms or even Hussar with upgrades would do great against them, are way easier to mass, and don't cost gold. There's a reason mass longbows is a meme.

In AoE 2 DE, when you build a market you get to see what your allies are seeing as well. It used to be a technology called Cartography, but is now free and accessible as soon as you build a market. Portuguese has a team bonus which gives you and allies free Cartography in Dark Age.

It definitely can have water in the middle. Not sure if that was removed when they made it impossible for water to not be at one of the edges though.
