I've been taking piano lessons for 7 years (can't play by ear at all), and I have come across people who can play so many songs by ear. That's why I decided to look this up and learn how to play songs by ear if anyone requests. Thank you for the help! This makes me want to try it even more now, if only it weren't so late. This helped me some, and I thank you for that!
I play in church on Sundays and I am gradually learning to play by ear. And the process is so enjoyable from finding the key to its chord progression. It sparks joy in my heart. This has been very helpful. Totally a fan of yours.
Excellent Video! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Dinanlinson Detox System Approach (google it)? It is a great one off product for revealing the secret to master the piano minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my old buddy Taylor after many years got great success with it.

Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got amazing success with it.

dont forget to be realistic - you'll have to do a bit of work whichever method you decide on for learning piano I've been studying teaching yourself piano and found a great resource at TurboPianoSecret.com (check it out on google)
Kudos for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Chiveard Awesome Speaker Framework (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome exclusive product for learning how to master the piano without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my m8 at very last got great success with it.
You can find the key by just humming the note that seems to fit the whole song. That is normally the key. You will know if it is correct key by playing random key notes along with song and if they sound okay then you definitely found the key. Then write down the chords for that key. Sing song on start chord wait until is sounds wrong then try any of the chords from the found key until find one that fits. If none of them fit I then try them all again as 7ths, then all again with sus2, sus4s, flat 5s etc. Takes time at first but gets easier very quickly.
I've been taking piano lessons for almost 2 years and I can play some songs by ear but am trying to improve and refine this skill. And thanks for the lessons. You're such an amazing person! From the Philippines:)
hi i am praveen and i am from india your vedios are wonderfull and the way you demonstrate things are is good. I am blind and its really helpfull for me.
Here are the timecodes for all the tips! Tip #1 - Figure out what key the song is in - 0:21 Tip #2 - Figure out the chord progression - 2:01 Tip #3 - Be patient - 3:30 Tip #4 - If you won't want to sing - 4:08
I mainly play piano and guitar by ear. I used to have difficulty explaining how I'm able to do so to friends. I usually rely on instinct. I shall send them your vid because you explained it so well.
Wow! This worked. Have been wanting to learn "Simple" by Quinn Christopherson, and this method helped me quickly figure out the chord progression. Sure enough it's I V vi IV. You rock!
I dunno if I understood correctly but my bottom line from this video is that knowing the key lets you make more educated guesses that the progression will include 4th 5th and 6th major or minor chords. But could actually have any chord in the scale major or minor, which basically means ANY chord? So it's just slightly reducing your trial and error time
I think this is the video that i have been searching for years .......iam a beginner and I wanted to play the song I've listened but I exactly dosent know what .....but this truly helps me a lot mam.....i think this also really helps a lot of peole like me......I have a desire to learn piano and my wish came true because of this channel and iam sure that's perfectly you♥️🖤♥️ Keep continuing Your lovely student😘
Woah.. this is going to be helpful!! A quick twist in the plot: How would you play a piece that only has instrumental and no lyrics? Would the same apply??
Yay! I'm glad to have been able to teach you something new!!!! It really does take a long time to get really good at- What has helped me most is playing LOTS of songs (I used to teach voice full time and played so many songs for singers all day long). The more songs you play, the more you get used to the chord movements, changes and patterns that show up in most pop music. Really understanding the 1-5-6-4 progression helps as well. Have fun practicing!!
I’ve always learned songs by this method. Having basic chord knowledge helps tremendously and I’ve also learned so many techniques and chords that I never even knew the names of until I started watching lessons. I suppose it’s because I am naturally musically inclined and it comes easily for me. While theory and note reading is just the opposite. I do want to say that your videos and watching you play has helped me not tremendously. And I thank you for that!
I never knew that I could play songs by ear after started to understand keys/scales. Just enlghtening. Although for now I still need to look up the chords first in the internet 😅. Next I am gonna try to find the chords too based on this video. Dont get me wrong I love using music sheet too but playing by ear is faster and enjoyable compared to sight reading
The way I figure out the key is to play pentatonic scales over the song, once the pentatonic sounds right you've narrowed it down to a few possibilities. This technique with that might actually be my new method as this seems a bit faster than that
Thats a really cool idea! If you can believe it - i'm fairly new to pentatonic scales (classical training didn't include much along those lines) and I'm LOVING playing them- Could be another great way to incorporate them into my practice routine. Thank you!
@@PianoteOfficial I learned it from a guitar instructor. Guitarist use pentatonic scales to "bluff" through a solo or lick of they forget what the real one is, because as long as it's in the right key the notes usually sound pretty good. So that got adapted to how he would jam with people to figure out the key and it works really well!
To me always best way is listen to entire song twice get it in your head and hum the common sound of the song and find that and see if it fits. Play the scale with the song as well.
note that this only really works for pop and other simple genres like hip hop, rap, and EDM. Wouldn't advise this for jazz because intervals dont work the same in jazz.

I have started a year ago, I'm trying to learn now, with this comment I'm really glad I decided to look into this.
its been a year ago, can you letme know that you can play song by ear or not?
Hey same thing for me! Piano for 7 years and can only play sheet music
That’s the main reason why I avoid trying to play by sheet music. The type of keyboardist I want to be I’ll be held back tbh

Love your videos! So if you pick out the melody with one note at a time is if your not singing? But if your singing use the chord with the melody?
