Miss McCleod of Rassay; the great old Scottish reel, very popular here in Ireland too.
This is the best playing of Ms McLeod's Reel I have ever heard. My daughter-in-law's mother was a McLeod and I used to put this on her Facebook page for her birthday. She loved it.
I keep coming back to this rendition of Miss Mcleod....so straightforward, unadorned and I feel....authentic.
Best rendition I've ever heard. Nothing fancy. The USA does as good a job , if not better than most, at keeping traditional music alive and true, as anyone.....and I say that as a Scotsman born and bred.
I love this reel.
Popular here in Ireland since the 1700's as are many Scottish tunes - "Bonny Kate" being another example.

Man, this is great! Played the original way.
I am acquainted with George Cecil MacLeod here in Mississippi and this is just the way he played it. He is old and disabled now and can no longer play most stuff he plays, but he still plays this one. Love it. It's not overplayed.

Spot on for rythm and timing, Jeff. In fact you Americans have preserved the original, which should be unfussy, not too fast, and not over-embellished......better than contemporary Scots........the opinion of the Scotsman for sure.

Great playing and I love the gentle use of the bow. Very nice technique. The 3 thumbs down obviously do NOT appreciate good fiddle music. This is a great tune and played very well. Must learn this now It's in the book I use to teach from.
Lovely playing, interesting to see someone comment on Jeff's bow hold, he has the lightest touch and total control from what I see and hear, as a beginner I'm trying to stop gripping! Thanks so much for sharing your music, cheers John.
