No need to mess with strut bolts on hub assembly and possibly mess up wheel alignment. Leave the strut bolts in place. Remove bolt from lower control arm at the ball joint and disconnect tie rod from hub assembly. This will allow enough room to swing the hub assembly enough to remove axle.
So, the last time I tried to remove a half-shaft like this, I couldn't get it out. After trying for some time, I put it all back together and took it to a shop. I didn't know until now there was a clip on the end. Did I just need to pull harder?! 15 years later, and I have to attempt to remove the half-shaft from my current vehicle. Do I have to knock it out? Is that why you used that pickle fork? Is there a way to orient the shaft so it comes out easier? Thanks!
I wouldnt pull on the axle normally it will just fall apart if you do that and leave the CV joint still in the trans, get a pickle fork behind the CV joint on trans side and snack it a few times it will come out pretty easily
