A cover that uses sponge (a flat piece between the bare board and cover paper) in order to give the final cover more volume and dimension. Also, some embossing!!! Kristi, would you please consider showing how to make a large wedding album (the type actual photos would be added to using photo corners) and also with glassine photo protector sheets between each page (I think they’re called interleaves or interleaving). I need to make one for my best friend’s son’s wedding and the one I make needs to be very special. I also considering adding an inlaid custom plaque to the front. I would be very grateful and happy to compensate you for your help.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to make and share this video! I have a question - we use mm not inches in New Zealand - I see you are using 3mm book board - is the spine spacer 6 or 5mm please? I’m having trouble converting 3/16” into mm. Many thanks.

    • @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks
      @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Tracey - 3/16ths is 4.76mm, so a 5mm spacer would work fine. There are lots of free inches-to-mm conversion tools on the internet, if you run into this issue again. I have metric worksheets on my website for this box, but I'm sure there are other places in the video (like this spacer size) where I only speak Imperial. :) Sorry about that. :))

    You inspired me with this project! Thank you for such great instructions AND the guides! But I have questions! What would the difference be between acid-free chipboard of approximately the same thickness, and book board? Are they two completely different things? Would I be doomed to failure if I used the chipboards instead?

    • @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks
      @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words. :) Concerning your question, chipboard and bookboard are indeed two different things. First, I didn't even know you could find acid-free chipboard! If you have, good for you! But bookboard (or Davey board, or Binder's board) is much higher quality, and made differently. It is made in layers and is much denser than chipboard. It will warp less and hold up much longer.
      Now, having said all that, I am the kind of person who likes to experiment, :) so if I were interested in using chipboard I would try a project just to see what happens. Warping would be my biggest concern, assuming the acid-free part has been solved. If you do test it, let us know what you find out! :)

    How do you know what size gap to leave between the board pieces at the hinge? Is it equal to the thickness of the board you’re using? If you’re using 2mm thick chipboard, would the gap be 2mm wide? This video is amazing! Thank you!

    • @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks
      @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks  2 роки тому +1

      No, you don't want the gap to be the same thickness as your bookboard. If you do that the lid will never close correctly. The hinge needs to accommodate two thicknesses of bookcloth - one inside and one outside.
      The bookboard I'm using in the video is 2mm, and the gap is 3/16th (4.7ish mm) so you want to at least double the thickness. Hope that helps. :)
      (And thanks very much for the kind words about the video. 💜)

    Hi. I am a bit confused by the measurements/worksheets. How do we know what measurements to put if the spaces on the worksheets are blank? Maybe I missed some info? I was wanting to try to do smaller versions of these boxes but am not sure how to figure out the correct measurements.
    Update: I saw the video for the clamshell box worksheets but I don't have anything specific that I want to put in the box. Do I just grab a book or something that is around the size of the box I want to make?

    • @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks
      @KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks  2 роки тому

      I guess. lol. If you aren't making it for anything specific then your beginning measurements (which are critical for filling out the worksheets) are whatever you want them to be.

    I appreciate all the effort you went to to make the video and the worksheets, but boy those worksheets were complicated. It would have been easier to understand if you had used the common terms L W H instead of a b c. Then just say the margins to add or subtract depending on if it is the lid or spine. But I have such a headache doing the abcdefgh...aa all in my head
