Well I am a 79 yr old guy that has been watching these two since the early 80s, Every time I watch them skate to Bolero I tear up. What is wrong with those 138 people. They have been together longer than most married people.
I cannot count the number of times I have seen this performance and every time I am astounded at the sheer beauty of their performance. Thank you for uploading this video. No doubt I shall watch it again with the same enjoyment. :)
How wonderful to relive a moment of perfection. I was twenty six years old when I watched this performance. Seeing it this way brings it back. Well done.
All the positive sentiments here are echoed by me, but I think that added to all that - as a working-class person myself - we loved them because they were so down to earth, no airs and graces. Lovely, very special, people.
I am not at all British or close, but I loved them and wanted them to win. They did it, with a legendary routine. Thank you Jane and Chris! Thank you for the upload!
Today i have a MAC . am 78yrs. English live in South of France and am seeing for the .First time this Deeply Emotional video of Torvill and Dean .Absolutely fabulous . They are interesting to listen to so many years after; sharing all "behind scene" thoughts, feelings, Emotions. One would have thought ,as most people did . They were in love. ! Nice to see Ann involved. Thank you for this insight of such a special event.
They had a sort of love, the kind where you work/play together for so long and so intimately that you can achieve perfect synchrony of mood and movement. It's more rare than sexual love. Virtue and Moir also have it.
Will never forget that choreography! Loved the rawness at the end where Christopher is "throwing" Jayne around like a rag doll. What a moment in sports history.
I'm 70 and I remember this SO well. It was so spectacular and new/unique that you knew it was greatness. They brought a new level to the sport and they should be so proud. Princess Anne was so gracious and proud for the UK as well. BTW: it was so much easier to watch the Olympics back then, no streaming or having to pay. That is one show that should be available live without having to pay or get a particular channel. Thank You T & D, you brought such joy and respect to yourselves and to your homeland.
I remember seeing this when it happened (I was turning 35 yrs old in two weeks) - and I remember being absolutely and totally SHOCKED to my core at this piece. I was reminded of Toller Cranston (fellow Canadian) who also changed the face of skating. And I remember that once the shock had passed, and I realised what I had witnessed - I was hollering with absolute delight !! And they were both so warm and lovely and totally endearing - with a lovely sense of humour. Who could not fall in love with them ?!?
I understand what Chris meant about skating, the feeling of freedom as you're going round the ice. I started going at 14, shortly after a rink was built here in Sheffield and loved it. These two will never be surpassed where ice dancing is concerned. They seemed to skate like one person split in two, so much in time together.
I remember that dance like it was yesterday. My mother and I were so enamored by the creative choreography and beauty of their skating. We saw them in person in San Francisco in ‘84 and just could not believe how amazing they were. Thank you for bringing joy and beauty to our lives!!
First saw them when they skated in the USA Winter Olympics all those years ago.I followed them until they stopped competing. They are still the ALL TIME CHAMPIONS in my opinion!! Love them still!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was 8. It takes me right back to how I felt watching with my mum. How beautiful they looked and how exciting it was. I cried then, I still cry now. So soppy. 😆
This is a brilliant documentary it sends shivers up and down my spine so awesome. Something so magical so perfect ....no one will ever compare !!!!!!!!xxxxxxx
Forty years later now- I was being scouted as a partner when I was 14 (late 70s in the US), and will never forget watching the performance on TV. Bolero has 'belonged' to Torvill and Dean ever since. I also remember thinking that as much as I'd wanted to keep skating (folks weren't much into dreams that didn't guarantee steady employment and a college degree), and '84 would have been a likely 'target' if the O's were in the picture... and I was so glad that I was home watching instead. Absolutely magical, and their transformation of ice dance from something stuffy into artistic genius has never been matched, though the creativity greatly increased in all ice dance after 2/14/84. I got a signed copy of a photo of that night a few months ago, and was SO excited. It has a place of prominence in my apartment.
Our Olympic couple that made history, I remember watching it live as ice skating was one of things that I used to be interested to watch. I still remember watching their Olympic dance live and with the music it was breathtaking.
Man, they've aged well! He's hotter than ever! And she's still a fox! And so are the other ice dancers and coaches from that British Olympic team! What's in the water over there? They all look great!! Btw, I remember watching their performance when I was a young teenager and remember being mesmerized and transfixed. Ice dancing has come a long way since then, especially technically, yet this performance will live on forever in the annals of ice skating and Olympic history as being one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, of all time!!!
Imagine if the greatest ice skating duo had married. The pairing would've been a match made in heaven. And made one of the great love stories ❤ of the 20th century. A couple of years younger than Chris, I've been watching them since the late 70's. Thank you Chris and Jane for your poetic magic on ice. ❤
You cannot get any further away from Knottingham than Clovis New Mexico - I was 15 and remember sitting in the tiny living room of my grandmother's house in Clovis watching skating and my grandmother; a rancher's wife, cry - she didn't cry but did on this day.
One of the things I took from this clip was where Torvill says the teacher took them to the ice rink off her own back. It must have seemed like such a little thing to that teacher at the time and yet small acts of kindness in providing opportunities to people can be so transformative. I do find it sad that such initiative these days would be frowned upon and it leaves you wondering if we have made a society where such exceptionalism is now beyond our children's reach.
Grow Insane ??? People help other people nowadays too. All the time. The "moral police issue" (which is annoying but has more to do with things you say in public than anything else) is completely separate from that. Old people always whine that people used to be kinder "back in the day" and that it was "safer back then" when by every objective measure that's demonstrably false. Aaaah dementia. One day you'll probably get me too.

Watching in 2020. That was a wonderful glimpse into their amazing day and into who they are. I'm in awe - nothing has since enraptured the world in quite the way they did. Perhaps because their performance speaks so elegantly, eloquently and passionately of something essential and utterly recognisable in human connection. I'm glad to have been alive to see it (again). I watched them win on tele in 1984.
The couple made this grand musical composition come alive with their physical composition. Maurice Ravel, the composer of this masterpiece, Bolero would have been so proud to have seen this couple immortalize his composition. Absolutely, a divine experience to see the music and the performers merge in time, as if the music was made just for the performers, and for them to emerge in time to make it into one grand merged moment.

I still consider them the BEST of all time!!❤
And they're so beautifully " down to earth" .Their humble nature makes them all the more deserving of all their wins.
Chris is sooo neat to want the guards side by side..it means a lot that he felt they were together n nothing could disturb that relationship! awesome!
Even if I am not British and not living in UK any more, I am so proud of T&D and have been a huge fan of them for many decades, 40 years already.
I am still overwhelmed everytime I watch their performance.
They absolutely are legends and the best of the bests
I will never forget seeing it live...Goose bumps!
What a joy, a pleasant interview, after so many years, very interesting.. to see and hear them now.
They were, they are the absolute best Ice Dancers. No one else can even come close to them. And I believe they will always be the best.
I'm still enraptured with "that" performance- ... music, costume, Torvill+Dean... superb.
It’s one of those unique moments in sport. Nothing like this was ever seen before and no one has ever be to match it since!
Just like Secretariat at the Belmont Stakes
The closest for me is Jason Brown with his River Dance routine.
Watched this the first time as a young teen... breathtaking then, breathtaking now. They set the standard for me.
Excited to relive this moment in Olympic history. I got goosebumps then and yes, now. Havent seen anyone outdo this couple.
what pure joy to see this again this morning. I will never forget it. There have been beautiful skating moments over the years, but this will always be the routine that is etched in my mind as the the most beautiful in every way.
Saw this magical ice dancing pair live in Pittsburgh--supreme beauty, just like at the Olympics. What a privilege.
Me too... Once in 1997 and then again in 1998 with Stars on Ice
Well I am a 79 yr old guy that has been watching these two since the early 80s, Every time I watch them skate to Bolero I tear up. What is wrong with those 138 people. They have been together longer than most married people.
What 138 people?
I cannot count the number of times I have seen this performance and every time I am astounded at the sheer beauty of their performance. Thank you for uploading this video. No doubt I shall watch it again with the same enjoyment. :)
How wonderful to relive a moment of perfection. I was twenty six years old when I watched this performance. Seeing it this way brings it back. Well done.
I can watch them over and over again. I remember watching them live that day. It was incredible. Was so lucky to see it
My absolutely favorite ice skating moment ever. Never to be forgotten!
*Jayne
Talk, talk… i always yawn when i'm interested!
We are fortunate to have lived these days with them. They made my whole body goosepimple when they danced.
Absolutely the epitome of ice dancing! So magnificent!
The most incredible performance in any Olympics I ever watched from the 60s on.
Their performance still brings tears to my eyes. Absolutely brilliant.
Will never forget that choreography! Loved the rawness at the end where Christopher is "throwing" Jayne around like a rag doll. What a moment in sports history.
What a wonderful documentary. I could feel their chemistry.
A lovely and legendary couple.
One of the greatest skates I've ever seen. Thanks to Torvill and Dean for sharing this glimpse back into how things were. Brilliant, just Brilliant.
I’ll never forget this magical pair 💞
I understand what Chris meant about skating, the feeling of freedom as you're going round the ice. I started going at 14, shortly after a rink was built here in Sheffield and loved it. These two will never be surpassed where ice dancing is concerned. They seemed to skate like one person split in two, so much in time together.
I watched them in Australia when I was a teenager and fell in love with them..Still remember it clearly to this day.
My favorites! Ever since “The Hat Trick” skate, I have been a life-long fan! That was amazing! Greatest of all time!
40 years later, it still makes me cry! I never get bored of watching! Fantastic
The most best ice skating dance couples in their era, they are very talented ! The cheography was so beautiful and they executed it perfectly !
I'd never seen this programme before...brilliant memories...they were amazing and still are ! X ❤❤❤❤
Love them still!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Breathtaking then unmatched to this day....Congratulations to Torvill and Dean!
Just beautiful. I remember watching this as a young teenager and thinking wow!! Still does the same to me today. Goose bumps and still wonderful...
such talent and skill. still beautiful after thirty years.
I remember watching it live. I get goosebumps still…
I was 8. It takes me right back to how I felt watching with my mum. How beautiful they looked and how exciting it was. I cried then, I still cry now. So soppy. 😆
It's OK that you cried then -- and now.
This is a brilliant documentary it sends shivers up and down my spine so awesome. Something so magical so perfect ....no one will ever compare !!!!!!!!xxxxxxx
A magical moment in time .Amazing .😢😢💕💕💕💕🙏🙏
Beautiful video. Phenominal skating. I remember it well. Couldn't take my eyes off them then, and still can't today when they skate this dance.
Yes, beyond ice dancing, a singular, spectacular ice-skating event in any Olympics.
My sentimental favorite ice dance performance of all time. Still brings me to tears.
Very sad this present society has chains around people for fear of moral police
Grow Insane ??? People help other people nowadays too. All the time. The "moral police issue" (which is annoying but has more to do with things you say in public than anything else) is completely separate from that. Old people always whine that people used to be kinder "back in the day" and that it was "safer back then" when by every objective measure that's demonstrably false. Aaaah dementia. One day you'll probably get me too.
@@maureenleigh4724 I was a school bus driver when one of my 9 yo fell over and cut her knee, I pulled over, got out my First Aid kit and cleaned and bandage the bloody wound, after tendering my assurances that you won't die from infection, we got on our way.
I tell you, the bush telegraph is a lot damn quicker than email, by the time I got back to the depot, all hell broke loose.
DID YOU TOUCH THE CHILD? Well, of course I did, her knee was bleeding all over the floor, she was upset and in pain, got out my Companies First Aid Kit, (you know, the kits you supplied two years ago, to administer to the kids) and bandage her up
DID YOU TOUCH THE CHILD? Whatttt, are you deaf, I just told you what I did, YES, I TOUCHED THE CHILD, I put a damn band aid across her knee, what are the First Aid Kits for? Decoration? YOUR'RE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH THE CHILD, she was bleeding all over the floor and down her leg (should not have said that said that) DOWN HER LEG, DID YOU TOUCH HER LEG? Well, the cotton bandage wasn't going to do it, Cathy (the child) wasn't going to do it, so I did it, I wiped up the blood off her leg an knee and applied a band aid & Dettol antiseptic.
Thus I was reported to the Dept. of Transport for touching a child, I was reprimanded, given a lecture on child endangerment, given another lecture of the things I can and can't do with a child, blah blah blah.
As soon as I got back onto my bus, I tossed out the First Aid Kit, let the bastards bleed, I don't care anymore, actually I still do, but I won't be giving First Aid to anyone else from now on, up yours Wisely's, bloody WANKERS
Nanny state ... we're over-regulated to the point that there's very little room for inspiration to express itself

I saw this live. How lucky I was! Today I saw Ilia Malinin skate his Men’s Freestyle program, but not live. What a magnificent performance! Aren’t I fortunate to have seen both these performances! Aren’t YOU!❤😊
They are such lovely genuine people..the greatest talents maybe ever in all of figure skating not just ice dance & yet they sound like they can't believe people wanted to toast them after they won Gold..& Jayne saying a cup of tea & go to bed..lol gotta love them!
My wife and I saw a bit of extraordinary skating that day. It's so easy to remember. This video adds to that pleasure from that day. We treasure that piece of history.
Amazing comment
The couple made this grand musical composition come alive with their physical composition. Maurice Ravel, the composer of this masterpiece, Bolero would have been so proud to have seen this couple immortalize his composition. Absolutely, a divine experience to see the music and the performers merge in time, as if the music was made just for the performers, and for them to emerge in time to make it into one grand merged moment.
it was a dream for us, we didn't believe what we saw... Congratulations Torvill and Dean! Thanks so much...
Skipping church (Zoom church) to watch this this morning... again!!!😍
I watched Torville and Dean, and thought they were the most stupendous ice skaters I ever saw. They have lived in my memories all these years. Blessings on you both.
