KYOSHI ANTHONY FERGUSON 8TH DEGREE BLACK BELT & STUDENT PERFORM SHORIN RYU KATA ANANKU.
Ananku history in Okinawan martial arts is relatively short in comparison to other kata as it was composed by Chotoku Kyan. Its meaning is "Light from the South" or "Peace from the South", as it is thought to originate when Kyan returned from a trip to Taiwan.
What makes this kata special is its techniques of offense and defense while in zenkutsu dachi (otherwise known as front leg bent stance) It is also the first Shōrin/Matsubayashi-ryū kata to start with a centered movement blocking to both sides of the body.
The kata was developed as part of the Tomari-Te system during the early 1900's and was further passed on by Shoshin Nagamine and the Matsubayashi Ryu style.
Strong punches and double punches occur throughout the kata.
No preparatory moves such as chambering of punches or kicks, just attacking two or three vital points at one time, allowing the results of these pressure point attacks to finish the battle.
Basically, this breaks down as one sequential movement to another while at the same time defending or attacking two or three times at once.
