Congratulations, Kazu-san and Yocchan! Finally, your English Channel has started to go viral on overseas. Your English is superb. Impressed.
I really like the result and the consideration of money time for the customer. Great Job :)
I enjoyed watching this and approve of your methods and thinking. My Father was a carpenter and told me "when theres only so much you can do,sometimes you have to do it wrong to make it right". When i was an apprentice i didnt understand this. But through my working career it became clear. As long as the client ends up with a quality job the method doesnt have to be text book. Doing renovation and repair work with limited time and money you have to think outside of the textbooks😉
it is always fascinating to watch japanese carpenters do the wood work, especially doing sophisticated japanese joinery.. 頑張ってください。応援してます。日本一
this is not sophisticated japanese joinery. this is modern construction and relatively done hastily
I enjoyed your video. I work on rental units in America, and we have the same "Ideally, but..." situation. I'm fortunate that the person I do list of my work for is writing to spend money for a bit better when.
“We need to prioritize budget and get this done as quickly as possible”
*leaves 1mm gaps in plywood to prevent squeaking and cleans up flooring edges with a handplane*
man, I wish you could find carpenters like this in USA…
Just stop accepting poor quality work and you will be the same. Many people don't care how perfect their floors are, they see that there is a floor and the rest doesn't bother them.
Excellent! I love your problem solving skills and practical approach!
Excellence ... I appreciate this very clear and pedagogic video. Like from Paris.
Well done, thank you for educating us. Keep u[ the good work. Cheers
Wonderful work! Practical solutions and excellent craftsmanship. Greetings from Tennessee, USA!
Really nicely done. Well narrated as well. A huge upgrade from where you started.
They wanted it cheap and fast, they got cheap and fast, good job.

Nice work.👍
Great job! Hi from Poland :)
good work Kazu!
You got a new follower! Been watching your videos non-stop today. Very interesting and a lot of tips raining along the videos, been learning and also entertained at the same time.
Perfect !
looks fun great video of minka house
nicely done
Hi. ^^ In Germany, repairing the floor would be the landlord's responsibility, as the floor is considered a central element of the house, and its proper condition is in the landlord's interest - both for maintaining living quality and preserving the property's long-term value.
Tenant protection ensures that landlords are responsible for maintaining the property, so tenants can live in safe and well-maintained conditions without having to cover basic repairs. It also reflects courtesy to rent out only a flawless property, rather than one where the floor is uneven or sinking.
How are tenant rights handled in Japan?
I hope those walls gdt fixed up. That has the potential to be one beautiful home
Also kitty at the end
Looks good
Is it cold in the winters?
He did a better job in a day than I could in a whole month 😂
Nice, but I love tatami! I lived in Japan at the beginning of the 90s. I am a carpenter too, but lean a lot towards Japanese standards with it's precision, instead of the western way of "close enough"! I'm from Bermuda! Subscribing!
Салам из Караганды, Казбек. Быстро и качественно. Инструменту почтение.
I really like the English translation. It's great to follow along with the projects in Japanese but there are parts where I get lost in the process.
Keep moving forward ! I do finish carpentry in the states and it’s time consuming always fighting warped walls , uneven floors ( slab on grade) or something. Like you not all carpenters are working on huge custom homes ! Here we call it hustle in the struggle !
maybe this area of Japan has no weather/climate changes but we normally leave a little gap for natural expansion and contraction of the wood.
He literally used every power tool he had.
Even when the Japanese cut corners, their work still comes out 90% better than most American contractors.
Deux questions
1- Lorsque le contreplaqué est vissé, comment gerer les problèmes de dilatation (et de retrait) ?
2- ne faudrait il pas isoler le sol, ne serait ce que pour éviter les remontées d'humidité et fraicheur ?
Quick question, will this house benefit from additional insulation under the wood panel? why or why not?
I like that small and long handle hammer. What is it called?
Japanese precision is known all over world. Excellent job. Perfecto!!!!
✋Happy New Year!
Must be really cold in the winter with no insulation.
Could not have done it without those exact floor jacks by myself.
あ、英語チャンネルができてる!
かずさん英語の発音良いですね。
ima construction Carpenter drywaller and i Enjoy it
Nice floor.
That’s a great question. You still Owen the house. Never understood that logic.
where's the ant caps for each post? it was to stop ants/termites from eating the woods in the house! cool floorboards
What happened to the tatami floor? Will they be reused somewhere else?
I doubt it. They look too old.
1950’s house the tatami mats could be really old
the fact that the floor joist's are like 2x3's is crazy we only run either 2x10's or 2x12's for floor joist
I replaced four floors in mine. I am an expert now! Tear it apart new legs new beams and 3.5 cm cypress.. Not that more money to over build extra strong One or two extra beams . Cheap.
So easy to spray wood with white ant killer.before installing.
Comme toutes les maisons anciennes il faut rénover .
Use a mask when grinding stone! The dust that settles in your lungs stays there forever and you will get a dust lung.
What shoes do you use?
In sweden it is standard with steel toe cap and nail proof soles.
こんにちは、ビデオを楽しませていただきました。日本で大工の1日分の労働費用はどのくらいか教えていただけますか?
Hello, I enjoyed the videos. Could you tell me how much a carpenter's labor costs for one day in Japan?
What happened to the old channel
Flooring looks good work too bad not insulated if homeowner wants to expand insulation later to cover walls and other places. Now he has to rip flooring out to if wants insulation later.
Hi Kazu. When cutting small pieces with electric circular saw, always support wood on something strong, never freehand. Also many times your fingers are too close, if the saw kicks back it can jump out and easily cut off your fingers. 300mm never closer.
remize du planchè flotan avec les piès réglabe intèrésante vidèo
should have kept the tatami.
Using Makita metal cutting saw for timber cutting 😂. Good idea. 👍
That is Makita KS002GZ dustless circular saw only available from Japan
I will be in Japan in a couple of years, taking my 37 years of woodworking experience as a 2nd generation master woodworker here in the US, and I would like to get together with you on house renovations there as what I've been doing for the past 10 years here after I got tired making furnitures
Those timbers look undersized
чітко ясно якісно.
I don't think any of this meets International Residential Code. If you're going to build this for someone's life, build it right. Building code is already minimum, but even code looks overbuilt when compared to the original construction.
I just hope an inspector doesn't find this video.
never see a cheap house like that, the floor have no isolation
The entire house has no insulation.
And why can't there be money spend on a house thats being lent?
Maybe the owner does not want to invest much money into a house he or she does not use as family home. For this kind of house the rent is low too, so not much return of invest can be expected. Minor cosmetic repairs will keep the house on the market.
As far as i know( wich is not a lot, i learned it from the Japan cannel ' s house renovation series) these houses arent viewed as desireable anymore. So landlords most likely do not want to spend so much money, if there is a demoliton in tin the future. Also, by the looks of it, those houses seem to age really well.... depending in the climate :P)
Some people can't afford the highest standard. Would you rather they be on the street? Would you pay for the time and materials and give them the higher standard yourself?
только подумал, что лучше металлические опоры приклеивать к камню, чтобы не сдвинулись от вибрации - как уже проклеиваете.
Еще бы проверить двухметровым правилом ровность пола после укладки фанеры и пошлифовать....
I leave a 10mm gap all around to allow for expansion.
That is what most installation instructions recommend.
I like this approach. We did all wrong ..but it is ok... it is cheap it was done fast and it was done wrong way...Don't worry about it .. We all know how it should be done ..but we are so good craftsman that we said..No we will do it cheap, fast, wrong.. Good combination and I'm sure new home owner will wonder why is floor so warped..why there is so cold during winter..why there are bugs everywhere all the time.. I'm even surprised in came from japan. I don't know about you..but If things should be done wrong way i wouldn't do it at all. I understand on some things you can compromise..but on some for sure not..but what do i know..I'm only Engineer..
The jacks are not for permenant use. 12cm. posts.
Menudos chapuzas,
Um....why wasn't there 25 mm ridge foam insulation placed on the original floor boards prior to installing the plywood? Makes sense, no?
Who's paying for it?
Somewhat sloppy and crap 1950's original build getting a slightly less crappy, but not a whole lot better, upgrade. I pity the poor bastard that rents that uninsulated shithole.
That's not a criticism btw. That's simply the reality of slumlords in Japan. A lot of the housing is complete garbage.
It's a wonder you still have all your fingers.
in the US this structure would be condemned for human habitation and the government would tear it down.
also, these "repairs" would not be legal -- they don't meet international building code (IBC 2021).
plus, in a location where earthquakes are common (like Japan) the inspector would laugh at you.
Really! Too many mistakes! Floor laminate panels needed 3/8 inch space for expansion and contraction! Never glue them in place! They should be free floating. He has absolutely no experience installing laminate flooring. Nice accurate cuts, just too much layering! I feel sorry for the next guy who will have to destroy all the materials because some idiot glue it down. Handy man and not a professional flooring expert.
You should be the next guy since you’re such an expert.
I wasnt shure if this was a bit over the top, but yeah, i think the glue and the precision on the laminate look off to me. Then again, there might be reason to All of this. Buuuut, warped and broken laminate ( moisture etc) is scary.
I don’t think it’s laminate. Those pieces were some kind of layered real wood
That's not laminate man😂
You must be fun at parties….
Where can i buy those metal adjustable posts from?
use more tools... and silicon
