      Totally agree. I think it helps that he has kids. I know that's not necessarily a universally applicable statement, not everyone that has kids could do this as well as he does, but I still believe that is (one of the many reasons) why he is so good at it.

      it's a bit nit picky, but the whole thing about teenagers not waking up on time is just a toxic stereotype. as if everyone of a particular age or age range is identical. kinda ageist. same with capability -- there exists grandmaster chess players of literally 10 years old. it's all just about what people are interested in, focus on, and apply themselves to (oh, and "allowed" to do).

    There is a few kinds of great Colbert interviews. There is the ''Here's a friend of mine'' with guests like John Oliver etc, there is the ''Stephen doesn't expect this lady to hit on him and then gets flustered and it's amazing'', and then there is the sincere ''Stephen is a true fan of this person and asks thoughtful and interesting questions about things he wants to know''. It is a strange time in life... to be watching this and having such respect and appreciation of an artist, that low-key wish of "I would like to know this person, to call them friend and be able to muse about life.." and then to have it hit you. She is so much younger than you, literally worlds apart because of it.
    To be so thoroughly caught up in the wisdom of a person's words and evident ideas that you forget about age, culture, gender that in the narrative of the stories those mean nothing. Sadly we are not beings of pure intellect, we do not live in a vacuum and because of that I will never know her. But it is okay, I wish our society was more pure, but for now. It isn't.

    • @gabrieldesmarais3394
      @gabrieldesmarais3394 3 роки тому

      How do you define pure? Because how I see it is a homogenous society, and I don't consider this that much of a good thing.
      In some ways, isn't the world more interesting because of its impurities? I mean, yes, there are things that we can and should improve, but... wouldn't a homogeneous world filled with people having the same level of interest, the same amount of honesty and without that little sarcasm and pointless passive aggressiveness here and there be kinda boring?
      Also, stupidity is not always a bad thing. It's very useful for humour and we all have a little bit of it once in a while.
      And about being a "pure" person, quit that... not that you can't acheive it... but that this idea that you should be pure can only be toxic for yourself.
