There’s no other artist in this world that cares so much about their fans like Billie. The things she did to make us happy even tho she’s going thru hell, She deserves all the happiness in the world. I really hope someday I’ll get to meet her even tho it seems impossible
I love how she was more excited for Finneas for getting nominated for Producer of the Year than she was for hers. Now that's a loving and supportive sister. Good on her and her family for being such a close and devoted family.
Stephen is so smitten with her. Not in a romantic way, but as an artist, and maybe a little as a dad. I think she represents the triumph of the artist who didn't sell herself out to be a success. I think most successful artists, even Stephen, had to make choices that they would have preferred to not have to make. So he's happy for her, and impressed by her.
I thinks Billie is spot on trusting her own judgement and instinct. That's what makes her original and authentic and that is a rare thing in an age where a lot of people are trying to be a copy of a succesfull person in the hope of being successfull themselves. She took the gamble and won big, good for her!
So I don't listen or really know Billie Eilish at all but she comes off so great in this interview. Genuine, intelligent and compassionate. Really impressed. 💙💚💜💛❤
When she was excited for Finneas' nomination, that was super sweet! And at 15:50 when she spoke of taking a moment to have a moment with a fan and how much it means to the fan, that super sweet! Super true and genuine of her to acknowledge. Besides her amazing musical talent, this makes her even more phenomenal!
A Mozart + a Schubert. Well, a Schubert with the Logic system in his fingertips. And a Mozart with videos full blown in mind and characters similar to Puccini. (Her Bad Guy character.... and Tosca.)
By far, THE BEST COLBERT INTERVIEW HE HAS EVER DELIVERED. AUTHENTIC. Stephen is best when he can go deep. He’s never been good at the surface conversations. I’m 51, barely know Billie, but respect her as an incredible artist. Billie will be one of the best artists of all time. Go Billie, Go! ❤️👊🏼 She and her brother are so authentically introspective. Billie : "There was one point where I stopped it. Screamed. Got up. Ran around the house. Came back. Pulled my pants down. Ran around the house again" Stephen : Well.. it's... it's... it's... huh... it's... very... it's fearless Smooth Stephen, very smooth !
Almost a year ago, Colbert said something about Billie not fitting his audience. I was sad. Then a few weeks ago, Finneas did a song. I was overjoyed. Now, a TWENTY minute interview with Billie? Man, Stephen! Kudos!
Yes! She does indeed! I don't get why everyone (of all ages) in interviews responds with "I mean"... it makes little sense and sounds so annoyingly inauthentic. I really enjoyed this conversation between them... genuine, meaningful, intelligent

Great Interview. I saw her documentary in Imax the other night and it blew me away and really makes you feel for her and love her even more, not only as an artist, but as a strong and amazing human.
I love how honest and down to earth Billie is just as a normal human being. She never puts herself above anybody else and is always thinking of others I’m so proud to be a supporter of her. 🥰
"are u really u in this?" yessss good question. and billie's answer is just gosh darn good. I haven't watched that many docs, but this was the best documentary I've watched so far. the directing and the choice of music made me cry.
I never, in my whole life, felt regret about who I was until I became aware of this amazing soul! She is an amazing human. Beautiful inside and out! Now I just I wish I was cool enough to be a part of her life!
It is a strange time in life... to be watching this and having such respect and appreciation of an artist, that low-key wish of "I would like to know this person, to call them friend and be able to muse about life.." and then to have it hit you. She is so much younger than you, literally worlds apart because of it. To be so thoroughly caught up in the wisdom of a person's words and evident ideas that you forget about age, culture, gender that in the narrative of the stories those mean nothing. Sadly we are not beings of pure intellect, we do not live in a vacuum and because of that I will never know her. But it is okay, I wish our society was more pure, but for now. It isn't.
Society will never be pure. Be true to yourself. Don't fear what others say. Most people live on fear. Worrying will not change tomorrow. Have faith in yourself.
How do you define pure? Because how I see it is a homogenous society, and I don't consider this that much of a good thing. In some ways, isn't the world more interesting because of its impurities? I mean, yes, there are things that we can and should improve, but... wouldn't a homogeneous world filled with people having the same level of interest, the same amount of honesty and without that little sarcasm and pointless passive aggressiveness here and there be kinda boring? Also, stupidity is not always a bad thing. It's very useful for humour and we all have a little bit of it once in a while. And about being a "pure" person, quit that... not that you can't acheive it... but that this idea that you should be pure can only be toxic for yourself.
@Black Claws Thank you for your poignant ruminations. Your frequent mentions of desire to "know" this 18-year-old girl who "is so much younger than you" also inspires thought: is @Black Claws just a creepy old man? We may never know. But it is okay - I wish our society was more pure, but for now, it isn't.

Such a nice interview and Billie just being her everyday self, not trying to be perfect for the camera like so many guests do, with the perfect backdrop, fancy clothes, perfect posture. She gets right into the video chat camera. Up close and personal, like she's really talking to Colbert.
Right. She was surrounded by ordinariness and wasn't all gussied up. If she keeps that up, people will realize she's not only a unique talent and a fine artist, but a regular human being as well.
@@TVC15ohoh Exactly. She's done it for years.. I don't think she wants to stop being herself anytime soon.. And I think it's awesome that she's had her brother producing the music instead of big execs who wanted her to be what they thought of as marketable..

There are very few teenagers whose intellect I'd be willing to lend an ear to. Billie brings me down to earth every time I hear her in these long form interviews with her brilliant mind and beautiful words.
this is why colbert is a top tier interviewer, classy, non-patronizing and sympathetic
Such a nice and genuine person. Not a huge fan of her music personally but she seems like the type of person who deserves every ounce of fame she has.
She is a perfect example of an “old soul “...beautiful and amazing young woman.
"Old soul" - typical vacuous hippie non-statement. Sorry, but people who use such expressions are usually gullible "new age" type pawns in some charlatan's (religious leader, snake oil salesperson, self-help "guru", cult leader, etc.) scheme. Shouldn't you be drinking your celery juice right about now?
agreed! she’s amazing
I agree FranciKatherine.
@@tigerfightsmonkey9268 wOw 🤩 I’m going to bet your 1 of 2 things; very jealous of success of someone who’s younger than you. OR You live a sad, lonely little life...who else takes the time to actually look up”old soul” and add it to a positive comment about someone else? Please 🙏🏽change your name to:SMELLY SLUG -typical vacuous also non-hippie statement. P.s. my nana was a hippie-also a lovely, successful woman. Go pay someone older than you some gratitude. This geezer is going to chill out with some twentyone pilots - maybe you should too.🤙🏽Shaka (Hawaiian for let it go and no worries)

Weird how your judging is in a self righteous way...as if you are above those you’re labeling. How’s that better than a vacuous hippie or charlatan?
Check your narratives, cognitive distortions, conditioning...where do your lenses come from?
Self awareness, emotional intelligence, seem lacking. Ego bound, will drive you off the cliff.
Please consider your lack of self love is what causes you to lash out at others. That’s heartbreaking. I hope you can heal.
There’s no other artist in this world that cares so much about their fans like Billie. The things she did to make us happy even tho she’s going thru hell, She deserves all the happiness in the world. I really hope someday I’ll get to meet her even tho it seems impossible
Happiness is listening to two of my favorite people having a conversation.💜
I love how she was more excited for Finneas for getting nominated for Producer of the Year than she was for hers. Now that's a loving and supportive sister. Good on her and her family for being such a close and devoted family.
I do adore Stephen colbert, being in the audience at a late show is on my bucket list. they really brought out the best of each other...bravo
Wonderful sentiment. Truth. That’s where the song copycat is about fans or friends now trying to copy her and or others and instead be themselves
I admire her originality and artistry. Those are rare attributes in music today.
@@ENigma-um8zw It’s actually about a specific artist who was copying her literally everything at the time even music
So I don't listen or really know Billie Eilish at all but she comes off so great in this interview. Genuine, intelligent and compassionate. Really impressed. 💙💚💜💛❤
She seems to have that rare balance of being free with herself and kind &thoughful with other people. Like a rockstar Dalai Lama!!
She’s a natural in interviews
I’m a 40 yo woman and her music is some of the best stuff I’ve ever heard in my life. I think her brother is a big part of the magic there.
Same girl. Same.
A Mozart + a Schubert. Well, a Schubert with the Logic system in his fingertips. And a Mozart with videos full blown in mind and characters similar to Puccini. (Her Bad Guy character.... and Tosca.)
14:15 It is so cool that she says she wanted to be an artist that she wanted to be the fan of. That is such an amazing perspective.
She and her brother are so authentically introspective. Impressive.
Just love this human bean! She’s one of the “Hope for humanity” types of people we need in this world :)
took the words right out of my mouth.
I know what you're trying to say but just FYI, she's a human being, although there could be some bean in her hair.
Billie Eilish is a national treasure
this
Billie : "There was one point where I stopped it. Screamed. Got up. Ran around the house. Came back. Pulled my pants down. Ran around the house again"
Stephen : Well.. it's... it's... it's... huh... it's... very... it's fearless
Smooth Stephen, very smooth !
Time ?
If I pulled my pants down and tried to run I'd probably break my nose. 😆
Listen again, Ben: The documentary is fearless, not the pants-pulling.
This was such a wonderful example of treating a young female artist with genuine respect and appreciation for her accomplishments and talent.
Have to be honest, i don't know Billie's music. But listing to this interview and knowing how old she is makes me think that the future can be bright.
Almost a year ago, Colbert said something about Billie not fitting his audience. I was sad.
Then a few weeks ago, Finneas did a song. I was overjoyed.
Now, a TWENTY minute interview with Billie? Man, Stephen! Kudos!
I remembered immediately as well.
I adore Billie. She’s very genuine and down to earth. I kinda wish she was my kid. 💚🖤
Great interview! She doesn't start each answer with "I mean..." She listens and responds very well.
lol, also there's no "like" in every phrase
Yes! She does indeed! I don't get why everyone (of all ages) in interviews responds with "I mean"... it makes little sense and sounds so annoyingly inauthentic. I really enjoyed this conversation between them... genuine, meaningful, intelligent
@@JoDee172 It takes a great deal of practice to respond on air. It's not a conversation that you get feedback. When feedback's missing, you think you ought to explain further with "like" or "mean".
@@vp4744 yes I totally agree. I'm sure it's not easy to carry on naturally in interviews, in fact I've heard many express how uncomfortable and unnatural it feels... Can't be easy at all
@@vp4744 creating an impression of natural fluidity in a "conversation" by the interviewer is not an easy feat either
It is wild and wonderful to hear such deep intuition and empathy! It gives me hope in humanity 🥰
Billie has the Buster Posey effect: she’s SO young, though speaks like a woman decades older. I’m so impressed. I am a big fan of hers, and I’m really struck by her worldly wisdom. Just wow!
Fffo uoy is the only one who can be the best
she's so pretty, my brain can't handle it
Billie is so beautiful and intelligent!
She's so classy, wow
Great interview Stephen which brought out how very down to earth, intelligent and talented she is.
👏
She seems in many ways much more grown up than most grown ups I know and have known throughout my life. I am 42 years old.
That may be due to homeschooling. They get a lot of time contemplating while growing. Regular schooling misses that part of growth.
@@vp4744 True. I am sure that plays a role.
That would depend on what kind of homeschooling you got. I shudder when I think of the things some of these homeschooled kids are learning.
Great Interview. I saw her documentary in Imax the other night and it blew me away and really makes you feel for her and love her even more, not only as an artist, but as a strong and amazing human.
Billie is AMAZING. Restored my faith in youth :) This is true talent children! Love her :)
She is so thoughtful. I really admire her artistry.
Why cops people I don't trust nobody my fully has no party
I love how honest and down to earth Billie is just as a normal human being. She never puts herself above anybody else and is always thinking of others I’m so proud to be a supporter of her. 🥰
She has such an awesome personality. I'm glad there's a young person like this who knows how to be authentic and be that example in the celeb world.
"are u really u in this?" yessss good question. and billie's answer is just gosh darn good. I haven't watched that many docs, but this was the best documentary I've watched so far. the directing and the choice of music made me cry.
I’ve never seen her smile before, what a lovely smile! She just lights up!
I never, in my whole life, felt regret about who I was until I became aware of this amazing soul! She is an amazing human. Beautiful inside and out! Now I just I wish I was cool enough to be a part of her life!
Such a wise head on such young shoulders.
So many warm comments about her. That’s so great to see people understanding her and seeing that she is so sweet
It isn't.
Society doesn't need to be pure in order for you to be. Your response to the interview is evidence of that.
I was thinking the same thing. I was about to just watch something else, but they started talking....
Honestly, this is one of the best interviews I have ever seen. Stephen asks meaningful questions and she is authentic and honest.
Her laugh is such pure joy ! Love that Billie is so down to earth and her soul is so beautiful 💗. She gives such joy to everyone / that is such a special gift. Her voice is god sent 💫
I tried to say the same in my comment, but failed miserably.
I can’t wait for the album or the documentary
An 18 year old who knows to trust her gut and follow her intuition is a good thing for our world.
What a great interview! With artists like her, it lets me know that the kids are alright. Btw, That moment when someone says “you should“ pisses me off too.
Get away from me get away from me I don't want you away from me get away
I already knew that Billie is incredibly intelligent, expressive and well spoken, but this interview really amplifies these character traits 🥰 I love it!
I see her as a wise old soul who is bringing much light and happiness to the world at this time. This was a beautiful interview.
What an incredible and iconic interview! Stephen is so professional and Billy is just a cute and normal girl, with a standard, lovely family, and a kind of superior mindfulness and sensitivity.
I think this video has to be given to every communication and journalism student.
What a pleasure!

Wel, well...
A standard idealized family, if you want.
@@aurelibab1684 yeah, that's probably more accurate. She and her family are really fortunate to have what it appears they do. It's not an accident that she is that posied, confident and down-to-earth at 19. Family has everything to do with that, I'm sure. It's nice to see.
ok ngl when billie said
"yay he got it he was so anxious about that"
my heart bro!!!!!!
i literally teared up 🥺😭
Is she not one of the loveliest people in existence?
Just like billions of others. Yeah u just have a crush.
She has intelligence, artistry, beauty and a good spirit. A pretty rare package..
She so is. So very lovely.
@@morbidmanmusic yeah Morbid, why don't you sit this one out. Us optimists that have been holding out for someone to prove us right are having a well deserved moment.
Hi Billie. You're doing awesome. Keep it up, or don't! You're lovely either way. Just be true to your heart.
Lovely is exactly the word. ♥️
She’s so talented and such a genuinely nice person it’s great to see her so happy and sincere
Appreciate her when she says "I feel bad for the people that had things coming and then ...."
Very true. Ended 2019 with a string of performances that got us attention. Hit the ground running with my band and had 4 shows lined up with one being a sold out 200 person theatre. All cancelled due to covid. It really is a gut punch to work hard and have dreams going great, all for it to be taken away in a whirlwind. Progress and momentum lost.
Be grateful for what you got when you got it. And be wary of others feelings because you weren't the only one that lost something due to this.
Her eyes are so blue. Love her music. It’s not my usual genre, but still really cool.
I got to see billie in concert on march 12th of this past year. It was one of the best experiences I've had and i can't wait until i can see her again. This interview is everything
she gives me a lot of hope for a much younger gen than mine, she is damn insightful and clearly for her age knows some shit. she is also the first person top say ' i dont know anything' and i respect that too. Shes just a rad and talented person.
The wise admit they know nothing.
She's lovely! I loved her parents giving her the news about the grammys! And her cheering for her brother.
Kudos to Mom and Dad for raising such a well grounded person, as well as two phenomenal artists.
