Great review! - I know it's a year old so i imagine you have extra value add experience. I am in Perth WA on the CODE. Loving it. I'm looking to buy another whole foil set for my son. I'm looking to mix it up and I see Unifoil riders with a style i really like. Have you tried other brands. I'm almost linking waves but find at 150lb, the CODE 850s is a tad small to pump back out and the 980s is a little too much to control. Any feedback is welcome. Best, Damo
Oh nice, I am in NY and surf NY/NJ area. Started foiling 3 years ago but my progression is nowhere near yours. On a Axis gear, would love to try the Uni 140 as they do an Uni/Axis adapter
Stumbled on your Channel today, just started wing foiling, I am just about 200lbs and wondering if it is possible to have one foil for both wing foiling and prone foiling. This UNI foil and the 1225 MA from Armstrong comes up. But it seems you are liking the UNI foil better? I will need a bigger one for sure. Keep it up buddy, love your honesty, and just sharing your experience without overselling anything. That is becoming more seldom nowadays on YT. Liked and Subscribed. Thank you.
Thanks so much for checking out the channel. My personal experience in my weight, age, conditions, and ability has been great after switching to Uni. I just got my wing board in the mail and wing on the way. Can't wait to give it a try!
Great review. Do you ride the 210 anymore? Haha. I am also divided between a 140 or 170 progression. I thought the 210 would make a good downwinder but now im wondering if the 170 is my perfect single wing. The pro guys say use the 210 to downwind for learning btw.
Hey Chris, I don't know how I missed this but I just saw it. So I actually just rode the 210 recently and it felt huge haha. Obviously its a huge bigger wing but I would say that the 140 is doing everything I want to. I would be interested in trying the 210 for downwind and or light wind winging ( my next discipline) but I have a feeling once I get the 170 prog I may ditch the 210.
Nice one you are ripping. I also have a 140 that I'm figuring out, super fun and it goes so nicely in small waves. Your too small to foil is what I ride mostly..! I find in the smaller conditions like day 3 the shunt tail makes the pump easier, eg 8:50 you could have kept going. I must say contrasting your previous clip to this one you have had a huge unlock. For me it was much less extreme :)
Well *&^%... you just produced the ultimate testimonial for the Uni ProG foil... there is an immediate, very noticeable large increase in quality, smoothness of your turns between last post and this. Don't know how it feels, but looks like your pumping is faster, smoother as well. Damn.... I / my wallet really didn't need to $ee thi$.
First time prone with 140 last weekend and ear to ear smiles! Its just so manageable and the pump and stall speed are next level. Yet to 2-for-1 but getting close, and no problem boosting over flat sections that would have had me stalling out in months gone by.
Just wondering about the board you are using? Dimensions etc. What you like or don't like. I want to change to a smaller board, but also want to be able to catch waves. Thanks
Hey John, So I am currently using a Appletree Prosurf V2. Dims are 4’6 x19.3”x3.1” 33.4L T learn I used the Armstrong FG 4'10 which was 39 liters. I think the drop in board dims was good for me. I have a long surf background and have been spoiled by longboards and mid length paddle power. But I feel like on same days I could potentially go smaller then my current board. Our spring/summer is almost in affect. Swapping out my 5 mil for board shorts and a tee shirt is right around the corner so I def feel I could drop to the 30 Liter range in waist plus conditions. I think a small board allows a lot more feel of the foil but it's also about learning how to scrap into waves and get to your feet. I am actually going to be getting another board pretty soon which happens to be more in the 34.7 liter range but the volume is distributed much different. I know a lot about surfboards but still new to the foil world so please consult someone that knows the foil world better haha.
Incredible progression. Once you chip in and get up -- how long do you typically stay up? 30sec, 1min, 3min, more... And when you stop -- is it because you are out of energy and exhausted or more because you crash? Thanks for including the pop ups! Just got Progression 170 this week.
So staying up really depends on slot of variables. Yesterday in no wind and a pretty open landscape I stayed up for 1:30. I connected 2 waves out the back and pumped a lot. I have been trying more difficult maneuvers recently so I am crashing more often to say the least. I do get pretty exhausted by the minute mark.
I certainly have not been doing it long enough to know the science of it. But I am sure just like hydrodynamics in surfing certain designs help in different situations. It doesn’t make sense that a small wing would help a pop up. I just think that the prog 140 has a design that helps it glide more which I guess puts you in foil quicker.
I used it for a bit to try to get my pumping better but then switched to the CF1200 then the MA1225. The 1850 was a great wing to stay up on foil when I was learning.
Im foiling armstrong, i wonder if you find unifoil easier than armstrong ? From what i tried on wingfoil armstrong foil is more complicated then other foil very good but more technical, probably one of the issue i have seem to be related to the fact i dont have a armstrong board , i have the feeling it’s complicated to find the right setting of rake foil position i dont know if you felt the same ? Ps: did you plan to try other brand of foil ? Could be great to have a comparaison i heard cloud IX are really appreciated for prone foiling, takuma too. About the offset stance for people i see using it like chipry courde from afs and the guy from basque country , i they are using it on old foil to compensate for lack of maniability like you said new front wing getting good in this so you dont need to force the foil .
So in my experience going from Armstrong to unifoil that’s where I personally really started to see progress. I decided to make the switch mainly because unifoil is more focused on prone foiling and Armstrong is more on the Wing side of the sport. I really think that the MA wing from Armstrong is a great wing and if you haven’t tried it yet you might want too. It was surfy with a great pump. But… the first session I switched I was connecting more. The other thing that I liked about unifoil is it was a real set it and forget it situation. Very minor tweaks to find out what I like. As far as trying other brands I come from a surfboard review background and for foiling I really want to just progress without putting too many variables in the mix. Plus foiling is a lot more expensive then surfing haha. But down the road when I get a little better maybe I would consider it. Main issue with where I reside is the lack of prone foilers. There might be 15 in the whole state and I know maybe 7 haha. So unfortunately i don’t have the ability to swap gear with a lot of other people.
It has been fascinating watching you get so much better over 8 months.
Thanks so much.
You’ve leveled up for real. Those turns are looking good!

Well done, that was cool to watch, I hope to get this good one day 👍
Thank you. Just keep going. Every session something new is learned and that’s the best part about learning and progressing at foiling.
Amazing ride and progression! Where are you located in NJ?
I am in the Asbury Park area

Thank you. I will have to try that tail foil next time it’s on the small side. I appreciate the feedback and suggestions

Thanks so much. I am on day 7 with that wing and it keeps getting better.
Flying higher on the mast than before
The progression wing somehow maintains a height that’s easier to control. More back foot pressure maybe?
Three sessions in wingfoiling the 140 and loving it. Glides, goes upwind and pumps. (previously Hyper170v2, and Armstrong 925 before that)

How much do you weigh @foilnews?
@@MensGroup 143 lb.

How’s the progression 170 going for you?
how does the wing size affect the pop-up? are smaller wings easier to pop up on?

Did you ever ride the Armstrong HS1850? I think you said you got a used one, but I did not hear you talk about riding it.
I used it for a bit to try to get my pumping better but then switched to the CF1200 then the MA1225. The 1850 was a great wing to stay up on foil when I was learning.
Nice vid, how heavy/light are you (kg.)? Seems a good size frontwing for you 🔥
