You totally need to make a shaped, large, thick block that is mounted on the buckle piece. Take that block and send it to Bobby Duke to carve the face into... That would be awesome as well!
Love this rather different project from you!

Fantastic buckles! As a 2nd generation leatherworker, you did great on your first attempt at belt making. Ive only ever made a hand-tooled, leather covered belt buckle. Keep working and wear the belt and rotate the buckles out. Be proud of ALL your projects! Thank you for your use of Tandy products. They are the best and only supplier many leatherworkers use.

Fun project! Thanks for sharing with us. One tip, do not use glue when you fold the leather over and attach to the buckle. If you ever need to change it you won't be able to now 😉
We made pewter belt buckles in Shop/Industrial arts in high school. We did sand casting with fine play sand for detail. It was lots of fun! My favorite class was shop cuz I'm a tom-boy. Lol 😉
I do have to agree with other ladies... You should do more modeling for us. To see your projects of course. 😎

We have a Tandy Leather store here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I Love Tandy Leather. Whenever I need to make a new belt for the Renaissance Fair in Muskogee, Oklahoma I go to Tandy to get the materials. The staff are Super friendly and will help in any way they can. They even let me use their punches, awls and hammers to build the belts right there. I can't say enough good things about Tandy. They even have pelts that you can make bags out of! They are AWESOME!!!

Yeah, you can use a buffing wheel and a compound with metal, just use different ones next time than your one that you use for wood working. I've done some copper and silver work in the past, but I have not done any work on pewter. With the leather clips you were talking about, I've never seen anyone like them since they tend to fall out over time too.

I liked this project! Now I want to play around with pewter.
For for lighting, I'm no expert but I believe you want 3 lights for the best look. One on your background, one diffused at an angle to your subject (you or your projects), and another at the opposite angle to cancel out any shadows.

I did find I was trying to move you over with my mouse to get a look at the car behind you, 68 69 Camaro I believe hard to tell, good god man that car, KIT and not to Mention a Wraith I've seen in that garage, We might need a tour of that car collection someday ! maybe try putting that lighting behind your camera pointing at you to maybe defuse some of the shadows. Waiting on you next Project.

The buckle turned out quite decent. If you do this again, try making a mold where the stamp will form negative space, like it's embossed. That would let you give it a high shine without destroying the details.

You can get cheap buffing wheels for a bench grinder or arbor at most well stocked auto supply store. Also, heating the buckle before bonding with the pewter might yield better results, like heating copper pipes before applying solder. Lastly, the edges of the belt should be waxed and burnished with a wooden tool to make it last.
