Wow, having only discovered this film in 2024, and seeing all these comments from a decade ago! Its amazing how timeless this film really was, regardless of when we watched it, we all had the same experience, and that is truly a testament to how good this film was. For me, this will always be better than Inception.
This movie has inspired ''Inception'' who was nominated for the Oscars but not Paprika and got no credit :( Literally Inception has the same scenes (elevator scene or hallway scene)
This song makes me so happy... and then I get sad because I remember Satoshi Kon died. Rest in peace. Thank you. I hope you are out adventuring with Paprika wherever you are now.
It's actually about dualism and how the person we want to be is suppressed to fit into our boring society and is only seen in dreams. I've seen it a few times and I don't really see the 'ode to woman' thing.
Satoshi Kon worked many themes into his works. Womanhood (especially dealing with the male gaze) and how we hide our "true self" are definitely the two most prevalent ones.
@@archivehans Thanks, I'll have to rewatch with that in mind. I wrote that comment back when I had the idea that there was a "correct" interpretation of something. I didn't really know much about women's issues at the time and didn't really see how what little I understood slotted in to Paprika. I still don't think Paprika is an "ode to woman," but womanhood is a part of it.
michael scalia that is because the songs that you heard in those moments were different variations of Girl in Byakkoya. the slow version for sad moments, and the fast version for uplift moments. actually nearly every song in Paprika is a variation of the main them of the film "Girl in Byakkoya". he did the same for Millennium Actress where every song was a variation of "Rotation" also known as "Lotus", in the opening of the film, you see that the moon base opens up into a lotus flower making reference to the main theme of the film.
IMO the sweetest thing in this film is, that Atsuko loves Tokita for who he is inside, without considering his physical appearance and eating habit. if only all women can see the guys in the same way as atsuko did :p
I remember hearing the first few seconds of this track in a Vimeo video about Satoshi Kon's editing style (Editing Space and Time) which I showed to my film class.
FYI the actual name of this track is "Mediational Field", not "Nigeru Mono". The track number is correct, as Mediational Field ("Baikaiya" in the original romaji) is the second track but "Nigeru Mono" (translated as "Escapee" on the OST) is the sixth track. I guess someone made a mistake before uploading the OST to the internet to be illegally downloaded and nobody gave a shit about correcting all this. A simple trip to discogs can rectify this, but noooooo....
I wish I could back to before I'd seen the movie to experience that opening for the first time. I remember when the credits rolled at the end of the movie I was genuinely speechless
I have to say, paprica and its soundtrack are amazing. This is just my opinion. Though it was a little confusing at times, i find this movie and soundtrack amazing. Id love to see more like this.
The refrain is (which actually appears in Byakkoya no musume as well!) Yoi ya naze ni mugen ho bihai - Intoxicated and wondering why there is infinity and beauty Das beautfiul. cri. IF ANYONE WOULD WHO KNOWS THE LYRICS AND WOULD BE SO KIND TO SHARE IT WITH US I'D BE VERY GRATEFUL!!! :-] I tried to listen to the rest of the lyrics while reading through Byakkoya no musume's lyrics but uhm well I couldn't find further parallel lyrics. Well.. after years of listening to this I know I don't need any lyrics, but I really wish to know them.

I had barely been watching the movie for 5 minutes, and I had to pause it and make sure to find the OST
The Paprika OST was recommended by YT after I spamed Forces. Thanks YT!
Same thing here. Paused the film and searched for the song in youtube
HA YEEEE YAYI FORCES!!! HA YEEEEE YAYI FORCES!

you think you control but you control US ALL
Like a shared dream? 😉
Gotta say, the vibrant colours and cheerful music give the film's darker moments a wonderful edge.
There is just something so hipnotic in "Paprika"'s design....
She looks so beautiful and having this "curious and cheerish girl" mood
yeah
Its just a cartoon don't get obsessed

I wasn't aware he died... that's sad R.I.P. indeed
@@rubbymcrubrub1369 Yeah, he died in 2010 before he could finish his next film, Dreaming Machine.
Oh noooo... :(
I loved this film and watched it ages ago. I had no idea he died :(
Everytime i watch this film i recognize more details than i did before. To me, Paprika really is a masterpiece.
Thank you and rest in peace, Mr Kon.
Where can you watch the movie??
@@janfiloute_the_noob4045
Did you watched it ?
This song and film should have been nominated for an Oscar !
so true
This movie has inspired ''Inception'' who was nominated for the Oscars but not Paprika and got no credit :(
Literally Inception has the same scenes (elevator scene or hallway scene)
Pray4Harambe and the mirror breaking scene
Lots of hollywood stuff are inspired by japanese animation
Animes will never win Oscars. It's all about the hype, the famous actors, the money.
This song is so stupidly positive and optimistic and energetic.
... I love it.
It makes me happy. ;u;
The ecstasy that blooms in synapse is Paprika-brand milk fat. 5% is the norm!
Freedom. Freedom for our madness.
This song makes me so happy... and then I get sad because I remember Satoshi Kon died.
Rest in peace. Thank you. I hope you are out adventuring with Paprika wherever you are now.
This song makes me smile and feel that i can do everything... I love it!
Ana Gonzalez Same ! hah

can we thank Studio Madhouse and the composer and the director and everybody who worked on this masterpiece to bring life to it?
The composer Is Susumu Hirasawa.
He made the music for Berserk1997 aswell
Can we thank director, composer.and staff that worked on this masterpiece to bring life to it? Not a building
when i listen this song i feel free like i can fly
The girl in byakkoya is other beautiful song:)
NO PLEASE DON'T JUMP OUT THE WINDOW
YOU ARE DREAMING
this song is so good omg
I remember the opening credits and get chills everytime I hear this. This movie is such a beautiful ode to Woman.
good

@@maplebaconz2122 bro Kon loved using women and the shit they go thru as a massive theme thru out all of his work. Paprika is no different.

I want a bunch of crabs to sit on me while this music plays

Yeah me too, I think i was the only one !!

Have you watched the movie? The entire thing is one long trip. And surprisingly, you like where it leads.

Wow. Seems like you really know your stuff.
I love Susumu Hirasawa work since Berserk.
He was incredible in Paprika too!
I love his work too, Berserk is what made me love his work, "Run" is better, though.....:D
I watched Millenium Actress after Paprika, "Run" is awesome indeed!
Millenium Actress? Run is awesome! Do you know any other ones similar to "Run?" I really liked that one.
Millenium Actress is the movie "Run" was made for, the OST is awesome.
Sorry, I can't remember any...
David Y Rotation Lotus is pretty cool, check it out! Also I recommend Switched-on Lotus
what genre of music would this even be considered? Euphoria Overload?
Paprika.

Paprika expanded my mind. Concept of dreams being an alternate physical reality, albeit temporary is fascinating.
