Idk how to explain it but the entire Paprika ost makes me feel free. Like I could go out now and start running through the streets without worrying about anything else
there's this little circle of things, Berserk, Susumu and Dark Souls, that just lead into one another. Something about all of it is precious to me, in a way that no other story, singer or game is its kinda impossible to listen to any paprika ost without just enjoying it, no matter what mood you're in, it just pulls you along

If Satoshi would have been alive, he would have broken all the barriers of possibilities in film making by now. According to me, he was the most creative director to have ever live in the world. his loss was definitely the biggest hit in the overall film industry.

That's nice, but just remember that this guy did the music for berserk. The one where a man goes through torture and abuse soooooo bad that he is willing to sacrifice all his friends and everything he held dear to become Femto.
Susumu Hirasawa is hands down one of my favorite composers. If Berserk ever gets the adaptation it deserves, I hope he comes back to work on the soundtrack.

I recently read a comment on a previous soundtrack compilation where someone said that the better the movie is, the less someone would notice the soundtrack. This person felt that a soundtrack that was too good was too noticeable and actually took away from the overall enjoyment of the film. I felt this was a very silly comment. Does anyone think that this killer music took away from their enjoyment of this film, or added to it?
Instead of a straightforward answer I'll just give examples ;) Interstellar: As a whole there's a lot of things wrong with the movie. The soundtrack and visuals are so stunning that I still call it one of my favorites. The Rain Machine Gun Scene in "Road to Perdition": I won't tell you what happens in that scene in case you haven't seen it, but it the silencing of sound effects and hearing only the soundtrack punches you in the gut. The Radio music in Kiki's Delivery Service: Symbolizes her whimsical personality. Space Odyssey 2001: Duh. Finally, studies show that an audience will put up with "bad" or low-tech visuals (think found-footage films) over low-tech sound. Low-tech sound is the biggest turn-off for most movie goers. This includes music. I can honestly think of well over a hundred examples, but you get the idea. That dudes just straight up wrong though.
In the distant sky, the clamor from a ring of spinning flowers awakens the diverging paths I passed through that day, on that day I followed a girl who showed me the way, an incarnation of the shimmering haze, (2) and high upon a hill appeared the nameless field I’d yearned for The shadow whispered, “That is the city I showed you in your dreams,” day after day, upon passing through the countless branching paths A wise man in the darkness gathered cast-off days, and along the coast, along the coast, made to dance a strange, unknown flame ※ Ah, the mantle loquaciously fans up the flame, and congratulates those standing in the abandoned field Ah, before the eyes of the silent, silent girl ah, the lights (3) begin to burn (4) in the unknown capital High in the sky, a pattern of clouds dyed red like a burning flame showed me the road I had lost that day, that day Pursuing the wind that oft blows in my dreams, I descended time, and along the riverside, along the riverside, beheld an unknown flower of joy ※ Repeat x2 -- Notes: (1) There is a place in Vietnam known as the Bạch Hổ oilfield, which translates to “White Tiger oilfield”. “Byakko” by itself is the name of one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations (as well as the name of another song on the album “Byakkoya”). (2) Kagerou can mean either “heat haze; shimmer of hot air” or “mayfly; ephemera”, depending on the kanji, although no kanji are used here. However, the latter word seems to be written more often in katakana, while kagerou here is written in hiragana, so I have decided to go with the former meaning for now. (3) This is probably “light” as in “lamp”. The imagery of a capital’s lights (都の灯) being lit also appears in the song “Moon Time”. (4) This spoken section is in Vietnamese: Xin chao, cac ban. Day la que cu cua chung toi. Day la tuong lai cua chung toi.
Thank you for your information. But the sentence "Day la que cu cua chung toi" should be "Day la que huong cua chung toi" or "Đây là quê hương của chúng tôi" which can be translated to English: "This is our homeland"
The Girl in Byakoyya, we all know who she is. Those who's eyes are open seek her and this song describes this meeting. This meeting is an other worldly goal that transcends this current illusion. The strange feeling you feel is an invitation from her that rises deep within you soul. Will you heed her call? To this grand meeting?
Inspired by the photo of a Vietnamese lady who worked in an oil field, if I remember correctly. I've always been curious to see the picture that inspired such an amazing song.
The song is so emotional that i always start crying whenever i hear it. It sounds very dreamy, nostalgic, happy and sad at the same time. That emotinal note in the chorus touches my heart and my soul every time. It's so amazing that the combination of istrumentals, voices and melody really can speak to you even if you don't understand the lyrics. The beautiful power of music❤

Truly believe anyone who is an artist should listen to Susumu Hirasawa, it just opens up the mind like no other. Listen to his music daily, have about 12 songs from him and still discovering new ones here and there.
The whole movie was very philosophical Taoist to me... the impossibility of resolving 陰 (yin) and 陽 (yang), and how they are constantly contradicting, creating, defining, and complementing one another in a never-ending shifting cycle.
Probably my most favorite animated movie of all time. Satoshi Kon was a man I still look up to though he is sadly gone from this world but his legacy still lives on and makes a greater impact on the newer generations. An absolute creative and inspiring man. Thank you Satoshi for helping me go through hell throughout my depressing and painful years and thank you for being the one to help me carve my way towards an animation career.
the intro of the song feels like you're looking out the window of a train while it speeds through the countryside... you can still see the dappled sunlight through your closed eyelids as you slip into a dream, melody of the wind and vast sky singing you to sleep

Just saw this movie for the first time, in the theater. If Inception confused you, this movie will leave you in a coma. Absolutely brilliant and beautiful.
My story with this song is strange and magical. At first I was only listening to Parade that i kept in a loop, again, again and again. And sometimes, the loop breaks without me noticing and youtube play the next recommended song. it was this one. But I didn't really listen to it, I was focused on my work at that time. One day while going to work, I was singing this song without knowing what this song is. I didn't remember having listening it in my life, I didn't know the name of this song (I never watched Paprika but I plan to do it). So I was singing and was wondering while I sing it, there was all the instrument in my mind, the guitar, the lyrics, the tune, everything was in my mind. One day, I knew it was some Susumu Hirasawa's work. So I searched in all his songs and finally found it. It was the second time in my life I listened to this song. But it felt like I was looking for since my childhood. That's strange, and each time I listen to this, I feel in peace. There's a lot of things that piss me or just preoccupy me. But while listening to this, I still think of this things but this time like I just watch this, without judgement or hate about it.
This is unique. There's nothing in this world that can make me feel the same feelings as this song and Paprika. Satoshi Kon, thank you so much. Susumu Hirasawa, thank you so much.
I got this on blu Ray months and months ago. I took some mushrooms and watched it finally last night. Oh my god, what an amazing experience. I'll keep this in a safe place, and share it with someone special the next time I see it.

man susumu hirasawa is such a good artist. i remember listening to his album kyuusai no gihou and it was kind of a niche thing (i thought at the time since it wasnt on spotify), i then listening to guts's theme and realized that he was the one who made that song and how popular it was and how he made the paprika soundtrack.
Ngl, I'm not even here from the movie. I'm here from the time-traveling scene in Mandalore's review of The Mystery of the Druids (which I HIGHLY recommend if you haven't seen it already, it's funny AF)

This feels like a dream of flying between the rooftops of a city on a windy, partly cloudy, but mostly sunny day
In the distant sky, the clamor from a ring of spinning flowers
awakens the diverging paths I passed through that day, on that day
I followed a girl who showed me the way, an incarnation of the shimmering haze, (2)
and high upon a hill appeared the nameless field I’d yearned for
The shadow whispered, “That is the city I showed you in your dreams,”
day after day, upon passing through the countless branching paths
A wise man in the darkness gathered cast-off days,
and along the coast, along the coast, made to dance a strange, unknown flame
※ Ah, the mantle loquaciously fans up the flame,
and congratulates those standing in the abandoned field
Ah, before the eyes of the silent, silent girl
ah, the lights (3) begin to burn (4) in the unknown capital
High in the sky, a pattern of clouds dyed red like a burning flame
showed me the road I had lost that day, that day
Pursuing the wind that oft blows in my dreams, I descended time,
and along the riverside, along the riverside, beheld an unknown flower of joy
※ Repeat x2
--
Notes:
(1) There is a place in Vietnam known as the Bạch Hổ oilfield, which translates to “White Tiger oilfield”.
(4) This spoken section is in Vietnamese:
Xin chao, cac ban.
Day la que cu cua chung toi.
Day la tuong lai cua chung toi.
Best comment ever seen, with footnotes too!
Thank you!!!
Thank you for your information. But the sentence "Day la que cu cua chung toi" should be "Day la que huong cua chung toi" or "Đây là quê hương của chúng tôi" which can be translated to English: "This is our homeland"
And to this day i still doesnt know the full meaning of this song as whole.
❤
Inspired by the photo of a Vietnamese lady who worked in an oil field, if I remember correctly. I've always been curious to see the picture that inspired such an amazing song.
The song is so emotional that i always start crying whenever i hear it. It sounds very dreamy, nostalgic, happy and sad at the same time. That emotinal note in the chorus touches my heart and my soul every time. It's so amazing that the combination of istrumentals, voices and melody really can speak to you even if you don't understand the lyrics. The beautiful power of music❤
This film and its soundtrack are absolute masterpieces that will still be considered essential even in 100 years.
*Million years
This is no longer available on either Apple Music or Spotify and I am so mad
It's so frustrating, I want every Paprika song in my playlist
This is a classic example of why I've said no to streaming services: i want to own things. I don't want to have access to things at the whims of large companies. I've canceled all my services, started buying things on DVD / BluRay, and donwloading songs / videos off UA-cam.
@@vorpal22 100% I’m right there with you
@@wilsonsmith107 Right? It's the same with video games for me: I'm a big collector of physical games.
For me, two of my favorite music videos that I watched regularly were yanked from UA-cam, so now I download everything I like on here using youtube-dl so I have it always available. I've had it happen multiple times now when I was watching a series on a streaming service and it just vanished off the service only to appear on yet another one, and there are so many now that you could probably pay for 15 of them and still not get access to everything you want.

I guess someone had to do it. Well done sir.
One of the most unique and visually appealing movies I've seen RIP Satoshi Kon.
Same just saw it recently blew my mind. Better than most modern day Hollywood projects
@@spencerfoote6977 No one a/g/r/e/e/s with you. I would rather watch Hollywood movies. Hollywood is better in every aspect like acting, language (I'm only familiar with English), CGI, effects
@@spencerfoote6977 I'm not a bot. And I put / after the letters to avoid UA-cam censorship ( UA-cam will hide user comments if UA-cam thinks that comment violates UA-cam policy ). Truly believe anyone who is an artist should listen to Susumu Hirasawa, it just opens up the mind like no other. Listen to his music daily, have about 12 songs from him and still discovering new ones here and there.
The next level of music for me. I've never heard something like this before. This is amazing.
I don't believe среди русских есть фанаты этой аниме
There's actually a lot. I also have a book about Satoshi Kon right beside me right now.
And he's also a Ukrainian.
I remember watching this awesome film back in 2011 on my PS3! This is my favorite song from the movie!
I knew I recognised his voice! He sings "Forces" from the 1998 Berserk Anime
Why was this song removed from Spotify and Apple Music?!!
Discovered Paprika for FREE on youtube. Now listening to soundtrack nonstop
This music seriously makes me happy :D
Your profile picture seriously makes me happy. :P
Duke Dick well thank you :) I'm flattered
Markus Andersen same :') i love this music
it reminds me of all my wonderful childhood memories😊😃😃
Yes♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
To me, this song sounds like the pure euphoria and simultaneous dread that life can be.
The whole movie was very philosophical Taoist to me... the impossibility of resolving 陰 (yin) and 陽 (yang), and how they are constantly contradicting, creating, defining, and complementing one another in a never-ending shifting cycle.
This song, this vibes, feels and sounds like a fever dream and I love every second of it.
I love this song. Music transcends language barriers.
Moomin papa......*MOOMIN PA PA!!*
Perfectly fits Paprika's theme and atmosphere 😘
Satoshi kon's movies are way too good for humanity
The scene where for a few seconds Paprika falls from the skies to the this song is one of the most beautiful scenes of any movie ever
This was one of the first vocaloid songs to be used in a film. It's beautiful
Idk what that means. I thought vocaloid was girl singers
@@connergalles7106 Vocaloid is vocal synthesizer. Vocaloids can be male (like Kaito, Leon, Len, etc.) but majority are female.
@@CriminalDoenjangJjigaewait so youre telling me this is a vocaloid? i thought it was Susumu the legend himself, is it Leon, Tonio or
@@Entropychan This song uses the vocaloid Lola. No clue if it's for the entire duration though, but it is used frequently throughout.
@@CriminalDoenjangJjigae i was half asleep when i wrote that i forgot there was a female voice as well
the triumph and joy of living life
Indeed. If John Wick is the triumph of death, for me Paprika is about how life is beautiful
the intro of the song feels like you're looking out the window of a train while it speeds through the countryside... you can still see the dappled sunlight through your closed eyelids as you slip into a dream, melody of the wind and vast sky singing you to sleep
0,75倍速で聞くとガチで変態級の天才なのが改めて良く分かる。日本の宝。
RIP Satoshi. I hope wherever you are you're vibing to this in the world of dreams
When 2 geniuses collaborate: Satoshi and Susumu - unbelievable talents. What a loss of Satoshi san. This OST is like a glimpse to an alternative world 💙
The director as well as the author of the book had cameos in the bar scenes. Sadly both died not long after the film's release.
It's the same author who wrote The Girl who leapt through Time
i didnt watch the movie, and i dont know anything about this anime. but this song makes me feel so homesick
You should definitely watch the movie
I want Hirasawa to do a soundtrack for a David Lynch film. I could die happy if they did this.
Kon:Hirasawa=Lynch:Badalamenti
@@francescocantoni5665 I don't know who is Badalamenti but Kon + Hirasa is a better mix. They appeal to the masses not in a confounding way of gibberish, but a profound way of understanding life in Japan.
@@jameschang659 nobody claimed that one of them is better than the other & the comment you were replying to was just stating the fact that hirasawa to kon was like badalamenti to lynch, which wouldve been obvious if you knew who badalamenti is 💀
Just rewatched this movie today. It saddens me that Satoshi Kon is gone and will never tell another story. He was taken from us way too soon.
This is the most painful time machine because it won't take me back...

Just watched Paprika for the first time.
Out of a whim, and I always sorta knew that this movie was a massive benchmark in the anime community but never thought anything of it.
Now that this might have inspired inception is amazing. I love inception to death. And to experience this incredible piece of Art, maybe i should've watched Early.
This is the first song I listened to with my new headphones. Love this movie and love this soundtrack.

Its so postive sounding, but it feels like it isnt

That moment is truly blessing.
Cuando la escuché por primera vez, sonó como algo que ya había oído antes y la hubiera estado buscando toda mi vida.
Es magia pura.
Susumu Hirasawa, and Kevin Penkin should be written down in history for being some of the best composers

@@melixdas1043 hanz Zimmer is amazing!!!
This is unique. There's nothing in this world that can make me feel the same feelings as this song and Paprika. Satoshi Kon, thank you so much. Susumu Hirasawa, thank you so much.

I can't stop listening to this

I got this on blu Ray months and months ago. I took some mushrooms and watched it finally last night. Oh my god, what an amazing experience.
I'll keep this in a safe place, and share it with someone special the next time I see it.
Please help I was enjoying this OST and then thought it sounded like the main vocalist said "Yoink" at some points and now i absolutely can't unhear it
I just can't stop listening to this! All day, loving it! I bought a guitar because of this... Gonna learn to play it!
Amazing artist by far. 👏👏👏
The man's voice (the one at the start and end of the song) fills me with pure joy I always tear up a bit.
man susumu hirasawa is such a good artist. i remember listening to his album kyuusai no gihou and it was kind of a niche thing (i thought at the time since it wasnt on spotify), i then listening to guts's theme and realized that he was the one who made that song and how popular it was and how he made the paprika soundtrack.
Ngl, I'm not even here from the movie. I'm here from the time-traveling scene in Mandalore's review of The Mystery of the Druids (which I HIGHLY recommend if you haven't seen it already, it's funny AF)
His voice is so satisfying😇
Hearing this again has turned into a great memory, hoping it turns into a great dream.
Paprika, please be gentle with me or I won’t let you visit my dreams again.
Best song I’ve listened to in a while
This world deserved to see what more Satoshi Kon could do with his talent and passion for animated films. It is very sad we could only experience it so much, but at least we have what he left behind to remember him for a long time. Hope you are doing great up there my guy.
May Satoshi Kon rest in peace.
Thank you for your imagination and for our dreams
