- Sir Robin, interviewed here in October 2019, was the first person to sail single handed and non-stop around the world. His voyage lasted just over ten months between 14 June 1968 and 22 April 1969. He arrived back in Falmouth after 312 days at sea, securing his place in the history books.

Sir Robin Knox Johnston! A living legend…sage of the seas and also the personification of man’s thirst for adventure! Thanks for sharing this!
Robin Knox Johnston and Alec Rose wrote the best sailing books ever. Thank you guys for the love of adventure.
Thank you for sharing this. An extraordinary man with an extraordinary soul. I wish this short monologue could be used to encourage kids to realise the reward of adventure (not just sailing). I would love the chance to meet Sir Robin one day and “swing the lamp”.
It can be used.....share to all your friends and they may enjoy it too :) !! thanks...
Legend.
An amazing man!
I sure am brother 🎉
Cracking message.
We should never forget Nigel Tetley who was the first to actually complete his circumnavigation by crossing his own path.
He just did not finish the ‘race’ as his 7 yr old wooden trimaran final broke up approaching the Azores.
He was actually in the same type of boat as Don Crowhurst!
Cheers Warren
Nigel was pushing his boat, trying to keep ahead of the false position Lies from Crowhurst, he lost everything and eventually committed suicide, all because of a lying coward 😢
The challenge of single handing is not for everyone. I love the fact you live by your own decisions. My humble experience was a 60 mile lake race with the most exciting being 30 to 35 knots of wind with waves that were in short duration between. I know pretty small and tame conditions but I still placed on the podium against fully crewed yachts. My challenge and my experience and am proud to have attempted it and enter.
What’s next for you and sailing ⛵️ my brother
The risk will never be gone. Still a challenge today.
Inspiring person for so many, and young ones too. Loved watching this. And the GGR. Thank you -from The Netherlands- for publishing.
Very interesting. Thanks.
He’s sharp as a tack
he's the best
Totally agree with Sir Robin about the euphoria and managing risk, after every adventure we actually become safer.. People who avoid all risks are a danger to themselves and others.. I despair when smokers lecture about H&S, oblivious to the fact they are committing slow suicide 😢
