I live in Pittsburgh, so got to see a lot of JMO. The dude never really had a chance to get any momentum. He had cancer 1 year, injured and had surgery. Just couldn't put it together I was so so happy when the Yankees got him. You could see blips in Pittsburgh just needed a little luck health wise.
Five surprises to me: - Winning at a .750 clip! That's gotta' be number one. Thought this was a good team but now, if no injuries happen, they'll be considered one of the historic best ever. - Trevino. Great catching and clutch hitting. Some game winners too. - Taillon like you said. Some great numbers all around. Ace starter. - Cortes. Thought he was a good spot starter or 5th starter, but wow, under two ERA. Ace material or a number 2 at least. - IKF. Knew he was a decent hitter, but he's more than competent. Gets on base alot, plays a stellar SS. Honorable mentions...The Yankees overall defense. Excellent. Has definitely helped the staff and won games. No unnecessary freebies given to the opposition. Really helps pitch count and pitcher confidence that they have good gloves behind them and Carpenter. Wow. Came out of nowhere and has been an all star backup.
Really happy to see Gleyber Back to his old self HR #26 this year would be his 100th I hope he gets there and I think he will Also Holmes gotta be an honorable mention lol I thought he would be good but I didn’t expect him to be the best reliever in baseball
Yes, Gleyber has been heating up. I think he had 3 or 4 Doubles just in the last few games with Toronto. I can see him getting to 26 Homers as he's already at the halfway mark.
Great video, Dan. Loving the resurgence of Gleyber Torres, superstar potential with that guy. Carpenter has been phenomenal, Trevino great offensively and defensively and IKF is Moneyball! Mention for DJ - flown under the radar so far this year, think his second half will be big! LGYYYYY 🇺🇸🗽⚾️
The pitching has improved immensely, there were games last year that were only won on offensive might and this year is a healthy balance of both. Nestor Cortez and Jameson Taillon have become the work horses of that bullpen. Let's not forget the batting of IKF, Torres, DJ, Stanton and Judge.
I agree with your top 5. There is #6 I.K.F at short stop. He had a shake offensive start snd has more than settled down at short stop. He also shines in clutch hit situations.
I completley agree with everything you said. We have Bully Sevy, but if we can trade for Bully Maguire, nothing will stand in our way. This is the exchange I imagine: Reporter - "Do you have a message for the rest of MLB?" Bully Maguire looking into the cameras - "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye." Reporter - "What do you have to say to the Astros about the cheating scandal?" Bully Maguire - "You want forgiveness, get religion." Reporter - "Finally, what will you say to your opponent if you win the World Series?" Bully Maguire - "Look at little goblin jr. Gonna cry?"
Dan "The Man" Rouke back at it again. Thumbs up button has been smashed even before I started the video 🙏. Nasty Nestor is definitely my biggest surprise this season. Never was I expecting him to be a CY candidate. Agreed if we don't win the WS it's an absolute failure. GO YANKEES!!!! #CHASEFOR28
I would not say trading for a pitcher who had Tommy John Surgery is a big risk. It depends on what you give up. FWIW, the Yankees acquired Tommy John AFTER he had Tommy John Surgery,. (Sorry, couldn't resist). The Yankees signed him a second time after that. He was still throwing 170 innings per years at age 44. LOL Sorry, you young fellas wouldn't remember that.
These were all more positive surprises but I’m more surprised by Gallo than a guy like Taillon who wasn’t terrible last year. His OAA is negative which is very unlike him and we knew his average wasn’t going to be good but his slugging and obp aren’t good enough to make up for it. Hopefully he can rebound and have a good second half
I feel like the reason why the Yankees are so much better is the new coaching staff bc we dumped everyone except Matt Blake and Aaron Boone and it looks like they’ve been a huge part of this team’s performance
Competitive balance picks will be removed in the off-season right? If so, it sucks we'll get no picks if our free agents sign somewhere else (Taillon, Gallo, Judge, Chapman, Castro, Sevy (team opt), Rizzo (player opt).
I think my top 5 in no specific order are Trevino, Holmes, Nestor, IKF(mostly cause I didn't know much about him and he just came in and has been very consistently good on offense and defense) and for completely different reasons from everyone else Hicks.... Usually he seems to be a consistently average bat but besides the last few games he's been very disappointing
You didn’t hear about them because they were avg players at best. They’re playing great as a team but it scares me a little because these guys are playing way above their pay grade. There’s history is all sports where one team comes out of nowhere with not many stars and win it all.

Clay Holmes hands down surprised me the most this season. Along with Nestor and Taillon.
Holmes has been sooo nastyy
Yes, unbelievable.
His scoreless streak continues,
also has an ERA of 0.28 ✨
@@reillymoore3257 rip to his 0.28 era
Was so cheesed when the rays scored that run on him……. And I’m not even a Yankees fan
@@bondsgoat25 Yeah, and it looks like the Rays got to Nestor tonight, close game on the loss though, 5-4.

I was "pleasantly" suprised we got Donaldson. (been one of my favorite players for yrs)
u know u high when donaldson is your favorite player lol
@@D_Da_Tree ...well, I do have a crippling crack cocaine habit...but Donaldson is awesome

Amazing season so far. Been a ton of fun to watch. Yankees lineup is becoming murderers row for opposing pitchers.
You’re the best! Yankees!!!
I think those 5 are good choices; I also like the Yankees shortstop, too.

I didn't finish the video yet, but my number 1 surprise is gleyber, I NEVER Expected him to bounce back this good (knock on wood 😁)
yup!!
Torres is tearing up the MLB and I am so glad you put him at the top of your list. He could well go higher!

Trevino is one of quite a few who’s playing out of body
Great list! BUT What about H O L M E S???
#1 should be Hicks I'm surprised how badly he has play for the most part 🤣
No holmes ?!?!
Holmes #1 and Nasty Nestor #2!!
What about Cortes?
Decided not to include him. Too obvious as this list isnt necessarily a “top 5” but just 5 guys i wanted to talk about
👍😎
i compare this team to the 98 yankees
How do you not put clay smh
