In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm reacting to One More by Canadian composer Mathieu Fiset. This song slaps, y'all. Check out the unbelievable drumming by Larnell Lewis and the kickin' solo by Jordan Rudess...and all the other musicians are top notch as well. Enjoy!

The keyboardist with the red keyboard had this amazing sound similar to Jens Johansson. I really love this sound.

I hope you read this. I've made a few recommendations for you before. But this one would be really neat an unique. Can you do "bad asteroid" by the aristocrats? Just a trio of great musicians doing some instrumental tunes. All very technical but it has a rather fun vibe to it.

That was definitely a groovin' little jam there. Larnell was layin' it down real smooth on the drums and everyone else was right there with him; incredibly tight performance. Cool selection!

I love Darnell since Snarky Puppy's "We like it here". He was replacing the original drummer who had gotten ill and he learned the songs on the plane to Europe! Unbelievable! Power and intelligence meet in his drumming.

Really dig your videos Doug! I'm a long time prog rock fan so I'm familiar with a lot of the songs you are breaking down, it's really cool to see a "react" video but with some real serious theoretical knowledge to back up your impressions. Great way to re-listen to some old favorites. This tune is great too, always neat when musicians you like coming from different backgrounds such as Rudess (more prog/metal) and Larnell Lewis (more funk/fusion) team up a bit unexpectedly and produce something really interesting.
I know you get a ton of recommendations, but would like to put in a few of my own! First would be Mike Oldfield. He has several really great lengthy pieces, personally I love Crisis, the Taurus suite, and of course Tubular Bells. Second would be a band called Leprous - they have some beautiful, often haunting compositions with powerful, soaring melodies and an incredible lead singer. Some songs to look at would be At the Bottom, Distant Bells, and The Sky is Red. Third, I'd love to see some more Haken! 1985, Atlas Stone, In Memoriam, Falling Back to Earth and Nobody are some personal favorites. Would be so cool if you'd have time to review one of those suggestions!

I know it's not metal or prog, but I would love to see you reviewing anything about Muse. Maybe Stockholm Syndrome which is one of their classics? Or Take a Bow, Space Dementia, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Citizen Erased are also interesting songs to listen to.
I love Muse since Mike Portnoy named Absolution his favorite album of the year on his forum in 2004! You can even hear some heavy Muse influence in a couple DT songs from Octavarium and Systematic Chaos.

The horns made me think of Chicago, especially in the first half. Larnell sounded like he was playing twice as fast as the other guys, but it totally worked. He made me feel more like I should be running than dancing! One small nitpick. For the French name "Mathieu" the "TH" is pronounced like a "T".

I have watched your videos and something you have said several times is that is not just the musical skills but the performance skills that matter the most. The same note can sound either dull or bright depending on the performance. With that in mind I would love if you could react to Marillion’s The invisible Man (here’s the link ua-cam.com/video/ePZAujUknYs/v-deo.html) heartbreaking performance by Steve Hogarth. His voice is spot on, but his facial expression and body language take the song to another level. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Jordan kinda overdid it with the noisy wailing, as good as it was. What was it like six or seven times when he would do those quick climbs into a noise bomb? Cool once or twice, but that was excessive for this piece. Killer tune, though. Larnell, just...he's the man. Mathieu kicked some ass there on his solos as well.
