Jamie Kirkpatrick I realize i have forsaken the donut forefathers and as punishment will recieve LIGHTNING LIGHTNING LIGHTNING LIGHTNING for the rest of my days :p
Guys, I'm from south of Brazil and is very cool to see how hard you were trying speak the names on portuguese. Is such a difficult language; so see you trying do your best, for me as a Donut fan, is very nice. Salute guys, from Santa Catarina (or, if you wanna an easier way to spell, Saint Cathrine). Waiting to see the part 2.

Mas achei interessante que alguns nomes que eles falam como por exemplo “autódromo” eles não traduziram pra ingles com medo de errar. Achei justo da parte deles mas interessante
Those who die at their peak become legends, that's why Senna is a greater legend than Michael Schumacher even though Schumacher has won more races and championships than any other F1 driver in history
Because people over-romanticise the dead, and do not give credit to the living that deserve it. It's a societal flaw actually. We all need to appreciate the living while they are here. Tesla was not appreciated until now. Tesla died broke. We needed to give him the credit he deserved while he was alive. We need to fix this part of our mentality and give credit where credit is due, WHEN it is due. Also, good people die and advance to the next level, shitty people remain stuck here. He was good; so, he graduated.
@@ernodios if you take the 4 top years of ayrtons racing career and compare it to the four of Schumacher's you'll see who just had a more legendary reign and that was Senna regardless of length. As a Brazilian listener, I’ve come here to tell you guys to keep the amazing work! Love to hear more about my idol and hear Brazil’s great drivers stories! Don’t worry about the portuguese, all you guys did it pretty reasonable lol (Joe was the best one)! Love you guys and thank you!
Hate being that nitpicky jerk, but it was Gerhard Berger, James. Not Gerard Berger. 100% awesome podcast though, really love Senna's story and looking forward to the rest of the series!
43:40 Prost once said that for Senna wining wasn't enough - he had the need to humiliate his adversary by putting a huge time ahead of them. That's why he crashed in Monte Carlo, while wining for a huge margin.
omg, Joe looks TOTALLY different from what I pictured him, just by his voice. BTW, Joe, your Portuguese pronunciation was closer to perfect than any PTBR-fluent Americans I've met. massively impressive, dude. PS: Seninha's overalls an car livery were blue and white for the first few issues of the comic, then changed to red+white since they were the colours associated with him.
i am relatively new to the podcast ... enjoying the quarantine content reminds me of when howard started recording in his basement/at home ... you guys prove that great content can be done at home ... got layed (lol) off from my music venue job and went full ham on my LQ store (job essential employees for the past 2 years ;-)... point being, this era of broadcasting changed the game and you made history
28:58 That actually is the tactic I used when selling cutco knives lol. Pitch with “hey I need some help getting training hours for selling knives, can I set up a demo with you?” Worked great! James you should definitely get some cutco knives ;)
I have watched the senna movie probably a hundred times its wonderful but leaves out some really important things like saving erik comas I cry almost every time I watch it
He’s driving style was very different, I say a graph of him in the gas n brake and he was on and off nonstop thur the corners, they said it was to keep the turbo spinning so he could speed out of the corner faster!
As a Brazilian I find it really amusing to listen to you trying to pronounce these words hahah... The Spanish-German-French thing had me laughing too. Great video guys, thanks!
That teacher who was like "Tony Hawk is so great because he understands physics" was genuinely onto something. Rodney Mullen is the father of modern skating and basically was able to invent all the crazy shit skaters take for granted these days because of his understanding of physics. Dude is genuinely smart, I think he has like multiple degrees, and on top of that he's still one of the most creative, outside-the-box skaters ever. I can't speak to Tony's physics knowledge but yeah, it'd surprise me if he wasn't also a proper smart dude. Lowkey sounds like you had a great teacher.
Just a small thing. Could y'all upload the podcast to all the platforms around the same times. Ik it's not a big deal but having to wait an extra day to listen it on other platforms (Spotify for me) is a bit annoying considering that you can't listen to them on UA-cam without having you phone turned on. Anyways love the show!
Fun fact about the Kart races held in Campinas where Senna got the first race/pole position, Campinas is a City 60 miles away from Sao Paulo Capital and Senna and Barrichello raced in Campinas' Kart Track and Felipe Massa had his very first victory in his racing career on a Kart Race in Campinas' Kart Track.
This is the first podcast from you guys that I'm watching. Entertaining stuff like the other channel of yours. God bless. And Ayrton is a legend btw. Nice to see how respectful you guys are and still can be funny. Greetings from Brazil. Hook me up to portuguese lessons.

Guys I’m from England. Nolan’s right about the soccer/football club thing. A small team with no money in a lower league can move up through the ranks and move to the next level, every season they have the opportunity to move up if there the best. So the potential opportunity is there for everyone
Fun fact: Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 6 dedicated most of their development to the Ayrton Senna foundation managed by the Senna Family, a fairly large portion of the sales of GT6 went to the foundation
I saw him race when I was a child. While some kids were into Thundercats and Spider-Man I was about seeing the guy on a red and white car with a yellow helmet tearing up the circuit. When he passed I stop watching F1 and racing all together. I came around when Alonso and Montoya came around. But still no one can give you a lap like he would whether it was a Toleman in Monaco a lotus in Estoril or a McLaren he showed everyone Mansell Piquet Lauda Prost who was the boss and even when he was relearning things with Williams Schummi was behind him all the time. RIP Senna the greatest dude I’ve seen
14:54 , when that occurred, was a time when the material aspect of anything was not a definitive factor in competition, just a factor... a kart chassis, frame, whatever, reached its apex , design wise, such that, even today with A.i. generative engineering, the final solution to it, is almost the same as back then... so that explains why it isnt absurd, Ayrton being competitive with such an older kart, that was Fittipaldi's very own. cheers donut staff, M3H LUVS DIZ VID/PODCAST.

MacauGP is still held in F3 'till this day. Interesting note, MacauGP is special as they only giving championship points to those who win the GP itself, so 1st place or nothing. The race is also a place to see prospect young drivers for F1. It will be interesting when you guys can also do a podcast on Michael Schumacher in the future.
Hello...Great work. Just a quick point...at the beginning of Senna career he ran out of money on the Formula Ford 1600 and was a little homesick. Although he came from a wealthy background, he needed a sponsor in order to pay for a Formula Ford 2000 season.
7:50 Nolan, you pronounced "Pace" the right way. 😂 One tip: the letter "J" in portugueses sounds like a "J" in french, not like in spanish. And Senninha sounds like "seniña" ("nh" is the portuguese version of the spanish "ñ"). But who cares, anyway? 😂😂😂
I'm sure Tony Hawk knows his stuff, but AFAIK Rodney Mullen, the guy credited with inventing flip tricks and many other flat ground tricks that we recognize today as basic skateboarding, is quite a physics geek.
Great work guys, but.. Ayrton's first go kart race at the age of 9, the grid position was decided at randon, when Ayrton took P1 out of the bucket, his father was against his son starting in the front of so many older Kids, but obviusly he lost the argument against his strong willed Kid. That Einstein picture actually is super smart. He wasn’t partying he just hated the media. He stuck his tongue out to ruin the photo because he was pissed they were taking photos. Ironically, it became his most iconic image.

I think you mean pop up up and down headlights my friend
That makes Schumacher more legendary than pop up up and down head lights

Wow! A PaganiGaming comment that is not "Day XX of asking James for an Up to Speed on his dad"?

Day 18 of asking donut to do a b2b on their cars or maybe an up to speed
Yes
Scam though

YESSS!!!!! THANK YOU MUITO OBRIGADO Senna means so much to us thank you donut. I've asked for something on Senna for so long, you guys are the best
I love nolans voice (no homo)
My favourite racer by far. Noone like him. Rest in peace, Ayrton. Watching him drive is something else.
Amazing
These intros are SOOO GOOD! Thanks for perfecting this art Nolan
Oh my favorite F1 driver. This makes me extremely emotional 😭.
The podcasts are still my favourite donut media, please keep it up, loving it!
As brazilian, I just like to thank you to bring Senna to your audience. I'm a fan of you guys at Donut and it was great to see you talking about him.
That's been the best intro in the Past Gas Podcast history. Man, you gotta love Nolan
How do these podcasts not get more likes, pure gold 🤷♂️
Greetings from Brazil!! This guy here is more than a hero in here. Happy to see you guys for on his legacy. Obrigado!

Eu lembro-me que o Senna passou o Prost com o mesmo carro que ele
Agr isto é que eu chamo de "Ser humilhado"
To be fair he was racing in his subconscious then they told him to slow down which just messed his mind up and made him crash
actually, I heard Ron Dennis saying he thought Prost was catching up on him after he gained a few seconds in one lap (he wasn't)
Joe portuguese pronunciation is actually pretty good though.
I’ve seen this series probably 4 times now, and my biggest takeaway is how I love that the entire Donut staff is super in love with Zack Jobe
