    These are phenomenal with the right tips. I hated them until I used the cp100's on them. I like these a whole lot more than my S12's and ER2XR's now

      What's the difference between Dioko and S12 for you?

    • @johanchandy6238
      @johanchandy6238 2 роки тому +19

      @@SuperReview Personally, with the cp100 tips the Dioko is less sibilant in the highs, has a more emotive and natural sounding midrange and has the right amount of bass while not being overbearing for my tastes. The s12 isn't bad in these regards but just gets outclassed by the Dioko to my ears. I found the separation and soundstage to be better as well on the Dioko. The s12 for me has more body down low and more of a wow effect to the sound which sounds phenomenal on certain genres of music but does not lend itself well in much busier tracks. An example of this is Superhero Jagganath by Diablo Swing Orchestra, there are certain busy sections with growling that the Dioko's handle marvelously and the s12's less so. As a result I prefer the Diokos as an iem that does most genres well, a great jack of all trades iem. Also I find myself just enjoying the Dioko's more, I think this is due to the more emotive nature of the Dioko's midrange, I feel the music more; when I'm wearing the s12's I quickly grow tired of them and want to wear the Dioko's. I find the Dioko's more comfortable as well for some reason but I wish the nozzle stems were longer. Even though I like the aesthetics of the Dioko (I wish they were smaller though), I prefer the aesthetics of the s12, the s12's look really cool in the ear for my tastes. I do like the added note weight the s12's have but I personally like a leaner sound in general so the Dioko's don't leave me wanting in this regard. I have some final audio type e tips on the way, let's see how those pair with the Diokos. Btw, your reviews are amazing, I can't thank you enough for your amazing content!

    I found that tip selection is even more critical with Dioko than with other IEMs. At first I found them very hissy and overbright but after testing a bunch of tips I found a set that fit me just well and tamed the highs somewhat.

    I tried this in person, and it filled up my large ears pretty snug (but still within comfort range), pleasantly no issues for my narrower tragus & anti-tragus.
    It feels solid and well made, aesthetics are... Debatable, it definitely is eye-catching, might've looked much better if it was 30% smaller.

    I get what you mean about it being gaudy. It kinda looks like the IEM a Disney gypsy princess would use. Alternatively though, it kinda looks alien (maybe an alien's eye?). If you think about it that way it seems kinda cool. I had to use spinfits to get them to fit properly. The straight on tips they included held the shell awkwardly in my ear but with the spinfits it sits perfectly in my ear and of all of the 5 main planars this is actually the most comfortable and most isolating. This is also my favorite tuned of the 5 planars. The S12 is really fun but the occasional treble harshness and frequent vocal grain kinda put me off. Vocals are very smooth on the Dioko with no grain. It is also much less sibilant than the S12. I have no issues with the treble, the S12 is much more boosted and aggressive. So far every review I have seen that didn't like the tuning also complained about the fit. I think that has a lot to do with it. There are quite a few vents on the inside of the shell. Because the Dioko fits like a glove for me, every vent is blocked by my ears and the treble sounds fine. I have been running the Dioko off of the Gryphon and the Xduoo XD05 Plus, both have built in bass boosts. The XD05's in particular focuses more on the midbass and fills out the rest of the bass whenever I feel the need. Anyway, the wildly contrasting reviews for this thing goes to show once again that audio is a personal hobby and there are no right or wrong choices, just what appeals to you.

    They are really good. I found the design absolutely disgusting at first but when another person wear them I don't find they look bad at all. The sound is great. The only real problem is that it's a nightmare to find the right tips for them, I didn't hear any bass until I found out that the red tips are the right tips for me. The isolation is great as well, I can barely hear anything outside even though I am listening at low volume.

    I'm still early into breaking the Diokos in, having maybe played with them for around 10 hours. I'm hoping it improves with age, but I find myself alternating between appreciating the sound and clarity of the sub bass on them, and at times finding them getting lost in the mud. Similarly with the soundstage especially across the stretch of mid frequency sounds, sometimes they sound impressively detailed and isolated, while once you cross a line into busier tracks it can struggle with layering all those textures together while maintaining the distinctiveness of the instrumentals or more tenor ranged vocals. All that being said, for $100 they were quite a surprise to me as I don't have much planar experience and didn't honestly have crazy expectations for them, expecting a performance to match the price range. Especially after having just come off being supremely disappointed with the Moondrop Arias. My first set of IEMs having been the Final Audio A4000s, I think they've somewhat spoiled me for soundstage width and transparency for a set of IEMs. I keep returning to them just for the level of detail and isolation between even similarly ranged instrumentals and vocals, nothing ever gets lost in the mix like with many other IEMs, and for the small driver size, they provide surprisingly punchy bass, mostly mid bass, though not wholly lacking sub bass presence. I do have to give props to these Diokos though for the great tonality they bring, and the richness of sound that doesn't fade even as the texture and layering across mid frequencies becomes more distracting. Unlike the Moondrop Arias, I certainly intend to hold onto these and continue breaking them in to keep, if for nothing else, as a baseline example of planars in IEMs to be able to introduce friends to the inherent strengths they carry across the truly effective frequency range and general sound detailing without forcing people to double their budget to grab the Timeless IEMs or cheaper planar over ears along with the portable DAC/Amp sufficient enough to truly get the value out of them.

  • @Strizz484
    @Strizz484 2 роки тому +3

    Gotta disagree on this. I own both and the Timeless soundstage, sub & mid-bass presence blows this away on detail, resolution, everything. Timeless sounds amazing out the box without much power required, but only gets better with good EQ - whereas you really **need** EQ and power to make Dioko great, imo. Timeless and especially the S12 do all of that better and have a significant quality difference for the $ imo. Don't get me wrong, I think the Dioko KILLS the $100 bracket for sure but it's not at the level of its bigger planar brothers overall. And they're clunky and ugly af despite the excellent fit 🤣 Great review!

    Very good value, good technicals, but will it work with heavy/death/prog metal? I mean, there are a lot of details in all of the range. Should these work better for busy genres than timeless/s12? Thanks for the review!

    • @Strizz484
      @Strizz484 2 роки тому +2

      Absolutely get the S12 or Timeless over the Dioko if you're into heavy stuff. The S12 probably is the better bet cuz that's a deeper V shape with a much punchier mid-bass and treble extension that's great for metal, but Timeless does that great too, but with a darker/warmer signature. Dioko is much more suited for neutral tuning, clean reference or pop / female vocal / electronic music than rock, the mid-bass is pretty lackluster imo. The S12 / S12 Pro is the best value proposition imo (especially if you can get your hands on the Z12 with the sub-bass boost)

I like the dioko for the unique transients that planars have and much more extended/boosted upper treble. both have flaws, blessing 2 with slight BA timbre and possible shoutiness, dioko the slightly unnatural upper treble peakiness. both might have fit issues, but fit well in my ears. personally prefer the blessing 2, but I also keep the dioko. I use moondrop spring tips for both, tames the treble peaks a bit on the dioko as well.

    I am not a "disciple" whatsoever of, or apologist for Mr. Crin, but based on graphs alone-which we all know is not really the whole story regarding actual sound-I like this in theory and do appreciate the purple looks (I love purple and black-have the purple Ikko Gems). I think this may be a better refined experience vs those Gems, which I enjoyed very much but can be dangerous with the lower treble spike. Since I enjoyed the Gems bass-for some reason the bass on my set was not underemphasized, and a hint above "neutral", unlike most reviewers stated including yourself. That said, I do not use the Ikko a lot, though they do sound good with the Final E clear tips (which I usually do not love, but for the Ikko make sense.) The shape and color choice might have been an intentional departure from the original Timeless-I personally do not love the Timeless looks compared to this! We are indeed all different.
    In short, it seems the Dioko on paper are better than the Gems which I enjoyed, so I am at least interested, though I doubt they will be available locally (physical store.)
    On the Crinacle tuning issue, I actually like IEMs even brighter than him, so again, these seem excellent "on paper" for the price. Many of "his" models appeared "too bassy"-on graphs alone-to me. This one seems just right.
    However, my reluctance would be that I already have many "neutral" IEMs I love, some pricier than others, and I fear that for the price it's hard to "get it all"-I imagine I would get a wonderful frequency response, but not the extras I may get with other models-"holographic" presentation, "headstage", etc.; the more subjective elements a graph does not always measures. But to be fair, many IEMs are not stellar in these areas IME.
    The SSR is another set I like "in theory" as well, and it's so affordable I may get it in due time. It's readily available locally in NYC.
    (I love the ER4SR, though do not use it all the time.)
    I would never get the Timeless itself based on graphs alone. Have never heard it, but it's also not dirt cheap, and I just do not think I need it in my current collection.
    Apologies. Thank you. Be well.

    Timeless smashes these. I found the Dioko set to be plain, boring, totally lacking in low-end effectiveness, and there are simply a ton better IEMs at a cheaper price point. The cheapest, and also worst, planars on the market in my opinion.

  • @fofopho
    @fofopho 2 роки тому +1

    The dioko is honestly so bad. For the life of me I can't get a good seal consistently because of the goofy shape. And even when I do, it honestly sounds horrendously emaciated. I will go as far as to say that the Diokos (that I received) are easily the worst IEM's I have as far as tuning. And I have some really, really bad IEMs. Even the Tin Hifi T2's and KZ's sound better than the Dioko's, no to mention the Chu's and various Zeros that have been released recently. Whether it is quality control, or just a bad product, this is a huge disappointment. This is like an IEM that took everything bad about the Timeless and then multiplied it by 2x. lol
    And I'm not even a picky listener, my copy is just THAT bad.

    • @fofopho
      @fofopho 2 роки тому +1

      As a note, I have medium-large ears. Have used the Dioko with moondrop spring tips, JVC spiral dots, spin fits, the foam tips that came with my variations, Azla Standards (my go to), Azla Crystals, those sticky Azla xelastics (these got the closest to achieving a consistent seal as long as I didn't move around too much), as well as the stock silicone tips that come with the variations and blessing 2's. Basically threw everything in my ear tips drawer at these to no avail. Nothing could save them.

    • @SuperReview
      @SuperReview  2 роки тому

      Oof. Wish it was easier to find out if it's your unit, or you just don't like Dioko :D

    • @fofopho
      @fofopho 2 роки тому +1

      @@SuperReview hard to say without having a second set to compare. I mean shoot, it could entirely be a seal problem I suppose. I have hard time imagining that hot mess of a tuning is as Crin intended. Regardless, my dislike of this set puts back into focus the fact that I, and probably others, primarily buy these collab IEM’s to support Crin.
